The Dragon Slayers

After the cataclysmic event that was the death of the Divine, many felt in them arise a great hate for the Dragons who had, almost immediately after their impromptu alliance, betrayed them during the epic battle with Damian and his demonic hordes.

In no man’s heart did this hate so profusely stir as in the plate mail covered chest of Lord Arben, who had been the Divine’s most devoted champion and close personal friend. Immediately after the Divine’s burial, Lord Arben rallied some of Rivellon’s most prominent knights, assembled them in Rivertown’s great cathedral and formed then and there the Order of the Dragon Slayers. Each of the knights vowed to dedicate his or her life to the extinction of the race of Dragons and their human agents, the Dragon Knights, whom were both from then on dubbed “Betrayers”.

In all greater cities, local chapters of the Dragon Slayers were soon established. Most of the candidates who applied came from noble backgrounds, but especially valiant soldiers also rose in the Order’s ranks. A small group of knights, lusting for vengeance, had become a full-fledged order; the order grew to become an army.

Results followed quickly. In massive raids, often conducted under the personal leadership of Lord Arben, draconic citadels and strongholds toppled one by one until in but a year’s time the only remaining survivors were those few that had preferred hiding over battle. Thinned even further by the Great War, the already limited ranks of Dragons and Dragon Knights had stood no chance against the onslaught that befell them.

The enormity of the successes attained by the Dragon Slayers, ensured them fame and popularity of almost legendry proportions. However, though their renown would not prove to be short lived, their campaign would. Rivellon was rid from Dragons and none of their kind has now been seen for more than two decades. During this time, the number of Dragon Slayers has significantly dropped. The need for an army vanished and all that remains is a select number of dedicated Slayers who will never rest until they have claimed their ultimate prize: the Great Betrayer who slew the Divine and is still at large.

In very recent times the humans of Rivellon were deeply shocked by the brutal assassination of the Dragon Slayer’s founding father by an as yet unidentified Dragon Knight. If anything it has rekindled the zeal with which the remaining members of the Order relentlessly hunt their few lasting foes.
