Memory of Eldurim - Beta Update

by Aubrielle, Tuesday - February 02, 2016 01:03

The Memory of Eldurim devs have a large beta update coming soon.

Thanks to Couch for tonight's news.

Hey everyone,

This update brings controller support (for the Xbox 360/X1 controllers, Steam controller mappings to come soon), balance changes, more options in the video and gameplay settings, and lots of bug fixes.

We have a bunch of new quests in the works, and though they didn't quite make it into this update, they will be available in a few short weeks. You can now turn off "sticky sprint" in the options, as well as configuring your chromatic aberration and depth of field settings.

Many bugs have been fixed, but as always, if you encounter any, please post about them in the bug forums, or let us know at help@liminalgames.com

If you're wondering why the update is so large, that's because we are working on some big things that we'll be showing previews of very shortly.

You guys are the best! Stay tuned for big things coming soon.

More.

Memory of Eldurim - July Updates

by Myrthos, Tuesday - July 14, 2015 12:35

The latest update for The Memory of Eldurim, currently in Early Access, teaches us that the game has a new launcher, key rebinds and various options you can tweak.

This week's update brings a totally new launcher with key rebinds, much much more control over graphics quality, and other options. Be aware that the folder structure of the game is changing a bit, so don't fret when downloading the update if you see steam complaining about the update, as it will continue to download and work just fine.

As well as level optimizations, the video quality levels have been fine-tuned, which will allow the game to be pushed to the limit, or toned down to run on a weaker machine.

The archives are nearing completion, and will soon be ready to be explored and conquered, so stay tuned!

As always, let us know about any problems with the game or the new launcher in the forums. You guys are the best!

Memory of Eldurim - June Updates

by Myrthos, Monday - June 29, 2015 12:52

The Memory of Eldurim, currently in Early Access, has seen an update of a new area, new NPCs and new lighting.

With this update comes a new area to explore. It is a large expansion to the area of the golem near the town. Soon it will be used for quests and more.

We have also added in 6 new NPCs in the town. The first portion of a much larger quest is implemented and the NPCs will comment and contribute to this quest. The second half of the quest will follow shortly.

We have also added in lanterns and torches. We are planning on making certain areas dark and light will be a resource that you will have to manage. This feeling already exists during the Deathblood boss. It will be used in additional areas.

Much more work has gone into the archives. As the screen shot indicates the area is really starting to shape up. We are getting close.

More story line work has been done. We will soon be able to advance the main quest line and have much more for the player to do to aid the poor Eldurii. Some of the existing quest will be slightly re-written. Also, more NPCs are commenting on the lore of the game and soon even more will be added in.

We'll see you with another update soon. Thanks guys.

And at the beginning of the month there has been an update of the backend and towns.

As we have been discussing on our forums and in our streams, we have been working hard on this update and it is finally ready. While this update does not add a lot of new content directly to the game it does pave the way for us to make some good changes coming up.

Now that this big update is out we are going to turn our attention to getting back on our weekly update cycle. It is our hope that we can rapidly implement some content that will directly add gameplay hours with new quests and new areas.

The Memory of Eldurim - Steam Update Released

by Couchpotato, Monday - April 27, 2015 05:46

Liminal Games released the next update for The Memory of Eldurim on Steam.

Hello everyone!

It took a bit longer but we have our update out and ready to go.  This is the first iteration of the balancing update. With it comes the groundwork for a more complete and dynamic combat system. Our goal is to give the player as much control over the type of combat he or she wants to engage in.

We have added in damage types. While they aren't doing a whole lot right now, we will be able to to use them to build a system full of weapons and armors that interact with each other in interesting ways. Eventually you'll need to think about the enemy you are facing and choose wisely on how you want to conquer.

Work continues on the interior of the archives as well as several new areas to come. In the future we are looking towards getting a basic crafting system in and a more dynamic combat system.

Let us know what you think on our forums and keep in touch with us on twitter (@liminalgames) and youtube. We also stream each week on twitch.tv/ekcell.

Changelog:

-Weapon damage balanced.
-Armor value balanced.
-Starting stats balanced.
-Health values of enemies balanced.
-Added in damage types. (Slashing, Crushing, and Piercing, UI is not displaying the type yet but types are present and interacting with armor)
-Added in new animations for 1 handed mace move set(Early versions, modifications will be made).
-Changed greatsword power attack animation.
-Dramatically decreased CPU load. (Expect large frame rate improvement).
-Added in weapon Quality and Condition (Note, you won't be able to find higher tier weapons just yet, but they will be added in very soon, additional balancing required)
-Rescaled armor effectiveness. Armor rating now more effective at reducing damage.
-Additional artwork added to the exterior of the archives.

-Bandits can wield greatswords.
-New Idle animation.
-New art and environment assets added to the Archives (all outdoor)
-Additional performance increases

-Fixed multiple bugs.
-Fixed some graphical issues.

The new weapon in the game makes for some good fun. It's pretty powerful right now. The balancing update is coming along nicely. The new update will bring in a host of changes that will impact nearly every aspect of the game in at least a small way.  We'll be seeing you soon.

The Memory of Eldurim - Trailer & Update

by Couchpotato, Sunday - March 22, 2015 04:22

Liminal Games released a new new trailer for The Memory of Eldurim this month.

loading...

They also posted an update on Steam about the next weekly patch.

This week's update brings the first phase of the archives. The exterior can be freely explored, but the interior is blocked off for now. We are working hard to add the new enemies, bosses, puzzles, and challenges that will populate this new area. With the new area also comes some layer streaming, which should greatly improve the performance of the game for many.

An old artifact, The Agrestal Blade, has found it's way back into the game, and can be obtained by defeating the Arboreal Warden.

This weekend we will be moving cities, but we've got a lot set up at our new office, and we will be back to work on Monday.  As always, feel free to join the discussion over at the forums. Thanks!

The Memory of Eldurim - GDC 2015 Images

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - March 10, 2015 03:53

Liminal Games sent news they where at GDC 2015 showing off The Memory of Eldurim. The press release also had new images, and information from the gaming event.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Liminal Games, a small game development studio, showed their open world RPG to hundreds of fans and press members with CryTek at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). Liminal Games described their title, "The Memory of Eldurim," as Skyrim meets Dark Souls.

"We know it's an ambitious task for our small team of 3 full-time developers, but we have pushed out a lot of content and we update our game nearly every week," said Liminal Games' CEO Bryan Excell.

GDC patrons lined up to try their hand at the new title. "The graphics look amazing and the gameplay feels really great," said one gamer after experiencing the power of the CRYENGINE through Liminal Games' creation.

Camera crews, media, and other onlookers watched as Liminal Games presented an open challenge. Anyone who could beat the first boss on their first attempt without getting killed would receive a free copy of the game. Although many participants tried, only one succeeded on Thursday, the busiest day of the GDC Expo.

"We wanted to make our game enough of a challenge that you'd have to work on it, but not so difficult that it is no longer fun. A good boss fight is one where you almost certainly die on your first try, but you can figure it out before it becomes frustrating," said Brian Cozzens, the team's lead programmer.

The triumphant gamer was given a free copy of the game and much applause as she completed the challenge.

Liminal Games was also given a chance to present their game and discuss their design philosophies during a presentation at CryTek's booth. While presenting live gameplay on the displays, each team member took turns on center stage to discuss their individual roles and contributions to the project.

"The CRYENGINE provides a worthy platform for us to deliver our story," said Bentley Snow, the team's lead storyline developer.

Players who demoed the game were met with some mythical gaming moments as they explored a large island with the silhouette of a beautiful temple on the summit of a towering pinnacle above them.

"We want players to know from the onset that there is more to this world than they first suspect," said Snow, "and we think these scenes convey that really well, and in a dramatic way."

Fans were excited to hear that the The Memory of Eldurim is currently available on Steam Early Access.

The Memory of Eldurim - GDC Demonstration

by Couchpotato, Thursday - February 26, 2015 04:13

Liminal Games will be at GDC 2015, and wil be showing a  CRYENGINE Demonstration of their new RPG game The Memory of Eldurim. Here the press release with more info.

Liminal Games to Offer CRYENGINE Demonstration at 2015 GDC

LOGAN, UT — Liminal Games, a small game development studio, will be demonstrating the capabilities of the new CRYENGINE with their debut RPG game, The Memory of Eldurim, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco March 2-6.

As the first company to partner with Crytek under their indie license agreement, Liminal Games was invited to host a live theater demo of their game, The Memory of Eldurim, during the expo portion of the conference. This presentation will provide audience members with a firsthand look and understanding of how indie developers are using CRYENGINE to create astonishing projects.

“Our game serves Crytek as a demonstration of how their powerful engine can be used by anyone to make a beautiful game,” said Liminal Games founder, Bryan Excell.

Using CRYENGINE has allowed Liminal Games’ small studio to create a high-end game that touches on all aspects of quality gaming with the contributions of only a few committed developers.

“Most indie games sacrifice great graphics in favor of faster development cycles and thoroughly fleshed out game mechanics…Therefore I have to give major props to this team for attempting to sacrifice nothing for a great gaming experience,” said one Steam reviewer.

Being able to participate in the GDC offers a unique opportunity for Liminal Games to demonstrate the progress they have made on their debut game and interact with their growing fan base.

“We look forward to meeting with anyone who has questions or comments about our game. It is very exciting for us and we love being a part of the gaming world,” said Excell.

Though it is not yet finished, Liminal Games has released their game, The Memory of Eldurim, on Steam Early Access. The studio believes in ongoing development and invites users to play their game and offer feedback.

“We think it is fun for gamers to be a part of the creation process and be there with us as we develop something together,” said Excell.

The Memory of Eldurim - Boss & Magic Update

by Couchpotato, Friday - February 20, 2015 04:27

Liminal Games released the next weekly update for The Memory of Eldurim on Steam that adds a new boss to the game, and makes a few change to the magic system.

loading...

Weekly Update 2/18/2015

Changes

-New Boss: Arboreal Warden.
-Arboreal Warden area reworked.
-Reworked Ikhor Sickness Mechanic.
-Weapons now affect spell effectiveness.
-Armor now affects Ikhor dispersion rate.
-Fixed various bugs including the door crash.

The tree boss is back. He is still in his first state and we will likely see him get tweaked as time goes on. There are some minor collision issues and we do want to add in a large health bar for all boss fights, as right now he is so large it is tough to see his health.

The changes to Ikhor are going to allow us to get a lot more done in the way of spells. We have already begun work on several additional spells and future updates will bring them your way.

We are going to start work on balancing the game. Nearly every value of damage and health will be addressed.

The Memory of Eldurim - Stone Blood Update

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - December 17, 2014 00:19

The next weekly update from Liminal Games has been released for The Memory of Eldurim. Here are the detail from the games Steam page.

This Weeks update gives us some good work done on magic with new spells.

-Added in Stone Blood Shard.
-Added in Stone Skin spell.
-Added in Tremor spell.
-Spells now improve with skills.

We are also working on several other things that are going to be in the game somewhat soon. We are making a new area on the island that has taken a lot of work but is really starting to look very good. We don't want to spoil anything but hopefully we have gained your trust enough that you'll believe us when we say that the new area is going to be worth the wait.

We have also been putting some effort into getting books into the game. When they come out we should have several books that give more insight into the lore of the story and our world as a whole.

Hopefully you've survived finals or whatever else you've had to go through this week. See you next week!

The Memory of Eldurim - Update Incoming

by Aubrielle, Sunday - November 16, 2014 04:57

Eckell tells us that the next update for Memory of Eldurim is coming shortly, and will contain updates for spells and possibly new monsters.

We've had several weekly updates in a row but the next update is going to be delayed by a week. This usually indicates that the updates will contain a little more content.

We are working on spells. We are going to try to get some spells back in the game that can do some damage and have other effects aside from the very basic one's we've already implemented. We have been writing descriptions for nearly 50 spells. Only a few of these will actually make it in the update but we do have a lot more planned for what magic will be capable of.

We are also working on getting a new monster in the game. We've always wanted to have more than just humans to fight because that does get a little boring so we are working on something special. It will live in the quarry.

Not planned for the next update but coming down the pipe in the not-too-distance future is crafting. You'll need to go to the quarry to gather crafting materials and these creatures will be there to resist your efforts.

More information.

by Couchpotato, Friday - November 07, 2014 06:31

Liminal Games released the next weekly update for The Memory of Eldurim.

Weekly Update 11/6/2014

It's been another great week for us. The game just keeps growing. This week's update brings in a mechanic that will change everything--weapon and armor affixes! Until we get all of the huge core mechanics implemented, balancing the game is going to be a week-to-week ordeal but we'll keep on top of it. We've also added in some UI tools to help you keep on top of your skills and stats, and a new boss challenge.

Changes:

-Added in Weapon Affxes. (Life-steal, fire damage, etc.)
-Added in Armor Affixes. (+health, +regen, etc.)
-Filled in the stats screen with important info.
-Added in progress bars to next "level" on skills menu (Hold block to show)
-Added in a new boss: Valaran Sergeant.
-Beds now heal you when resting.
-Fixed lag issues during Death Blood boss fight.

-Various bug fixes and balances.

We have some more good stuff planned for next week so keep on eye on our progress. Make sure to keep on top of all our updates.

The Memory of Eldurim - New Game Update

by Couchpotato, Sunday - November 02, 2014 05:44

Liminal Games released a new update for The Memory of Eldurim. and if you missed the last news-post please read it for more information from the games developer.

The Story Begins - The updates continue.

It's only been a little over a week since we debuted our massive gameplay and graphical overhaul and our next large update is already here. We want to continue our weekly update cycle.

This update introduces our story line and the (re)introduction of the first of many brutal boss fights. It's bound to be a good time.

Changelog:

-Added the first quest of the main storyline in
-Added the deathblood boss
-Revamped the entire crypt area
-Fixed bugs related to the bed
-Added a new player starting area related to the quest
-Updated NPC dialog
-Added AI optimizations for better performance
-Added in multiple death spells that will be available to the player in future updates
-Added a basic map of the first area

We really wanted to get the main quest line going. Next we are probably going to focus on additional skill, health, and stamina balancing and getting weapon/armor affixes (lifesteal, crit chance, etc.) back into the game. As always this and all subsequent updates will be free for as long as we develop the game.

The Memory of Eldurim - Large Game Overhaul

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - October 28, 2014 04:27

Liminal Games released a new trailer for The Memory of Eldurim, and posted information about a game Overhaul update. I'm happy to see the game is still in development.

As we mentioned several months ago we migrated our game to a new and much better version of the CRYENGINE. This allowed us to make the game better in every way.

We have been updating this new version of the game nearly every week for several months and the changes are now sufficient to push out to the main branch.

Some major changes include:

-A complete graphical overhaul of the game.
-New Character models and a playable female.
-Complete rework and improvements to melee combat.
-Large changes to the town and island.
-An entirely new UI system.
-Better support for Windows 7, 8, and 10.
-A more streamlined workflow for us to ensure updates most weeks.
-Increased the land mass of the game by roughly %85. (to be developed in the future)
-General improvements to the game in nearly every aspect.

We realize that there has been some negative feedback because we did not update the game. This is not entirely true. We announced that we would be updated a separate version of the game that would become the main branch and so updates have been happening.

We thank you for your patience and hope you will enjoy the new overhauled version of our game. You can look forward to getting updates nearly every week or every other week. We will always announce on our discussions page what we are working on.

Remember, for those who purchased our game, this, and all subsequent updates will be free for as long as updates continue (we hope for a very, very long time).

The Memory of Eldurim - Updated Cryengine

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - October 08, 2014 00:35

It has been a while since we had a new update from Liminal Games about their game The Memory of Eldurim. It seems the developer has updated the game engine.

The Memory of Eldurim - New CRYENGINE Version Screenshots

The move to the new version of the engine is coming along nicely, with a heavily revamped combat system, and vastly superior character and armor models.

The Memory of Eldurim is an open world action RPG in the vein of TES, Dark Souls, and the Gothic series of games, with difficult but rewarding combat, and a vast open world. We have moved to a newer version of CRYENGINE with new character models and a new melee combat system.

Our videos on our website and steam early access page are outdated, as we are still working to polish the new version to push out to the steam game, but the new version is coming along nicely so far.

The Memory of Eldurim - Current Status Update

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - July 15, 2014 14:05

Here is a new status update for The Memory of Eldurim. The developers has been silent, but has a bunch of short posted on the Steam forums.

Since we aren't sure of the exact date of the release of the update we can detail a bit about where we are.

Artistically, 2 More full sets of armor need to be modeled baked and rigged. New assets for another area on the starting island need to made and placed.

Programatically, Multiplayer is getting close. AI needs some work, and a few old features need to be brought up into the new engine.

Combat is going to get a LOT of attention. This will require testing and additional animations. We may release with combat in a good state, and continue to polish with your feedback until it is in a great state.

Magic needs to be re-worked and improved for the new engine.

NPCs and quests are written but need to be implemented into the game.

There are many dozens, if not hundreds, of little things that still need to be taken care of, but this covers the macro scale of what we are currently trying to get done.

Much has been done in the way of art, and gutting and re-writing code that would not have worked out long term.

I would say we are definitely past half way to finishing the update from when we started it. Hopefully we can get another video demonstrating multi-player and/or combat soon.

The Memory of Eldurim - New Patch Available

by Couchpotato, Monday - March 03, 2014 05:18

Liminal Games has posted information about a new patch released a few days ago on Steam for the Early Access version of The Memory of Eldurim.

2-26-14 Patch Notes

-Fixed various crashing bugs
-Implemented impedance system (and buffed current spell damage)
-Implemented the storm shard
-Added a couple more items
-Added Xbox 360 and PS3 controller support
-Buffed bow damage
-Fixed mace skill
-Added camera zoom (via mouse wheel)

The new character animations are coming along quite nicely, and we are going to begin the process of revamping the combat system very soon. New content (new items, bosses, etc) creation has been slow due to our artist preparing to move out, but he will be arriving this week, so new content creation will speed up greatly.

We are also working on a UI redesign that probably wont be done for some time, but we are trying to keep the PC and console in mind while designing it (we want it to feel good for both). Currently, controller support for the UI is not very good (just mouse emulation), but that will change with the new UI.

The new impedance system will change how magic works quite a bit. Your spells will be much much more effective, but you wont be able to cast them nearly as often (or risk death!) as a result.

As always, we are always in need of bug reports and certainly welcome feedback and suggestions. Thanks!

The Memory of Eldurim - Update on Next Patch

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - February 25, 2014 05:15

Liminal Games has posted some information about the next update for the Early Access version of The Memory of Eldurim on Steam.

Next update

Hello everyone, I just wanted to mention a few things about what the last few days of our lives have been dedicated to.

The new models for males and females are getting very close to making their debut in the game. We are working with an animator and the process of getting the core animations that we need are under way. After that we are going to be able to overhaul the combat system greatly with a large inflow of much better looking animations and models. We really think this is going to be a huge change for the better for the game.

With this, we'll be able to implement the combo system with different weapons that we've been wanting too. We want to have a different move set for every different combination of weapons you can hold. We are also going to get in 2 handed weapons and different weapon types.

Secondly we have been working on overhauling, balancing, and greatly expanding the magic system. We'll have a system similar mana - only backwards. Instead of having a full mana bar that expires when you cast you'll start out with an empty bar that fills up. If that bar ever gets full then you start taking heavy damage if you keep on casting. We are calling it an impedance bar for now, maybe we'll stick with that.

Different spells add to this bar in different ways. Fire spells are generally going to add a lot to impedance, and have a longer time before it starts to fade, but once it does it goes quickly. Ice spells will add less impedance, and start fading immediately, but they will fade slowly - sort of like your blood needs to thaw out. We have a lot of ideas on what we can do with this.

With this change there will be some more spells coming as well. We are working on an ice shard, an earth shard, a storm shard, and more fire spells.

Other than those things, we've discussed changing how some of the bosses work, adding in new items, and adding in a mechanic to change your respawn location until you exit the game (camping).

Hopefully we can get a reliable schedule for when updates come out. See you guys soon, and have a great weekend.

RPGWatch - The Memory of Eldurim Interview

by Couchpotato, Monday - February 24, 2014 05:05

We had the chance to talk to Bryan Excell of Liminal Games about their RPG The Memory of Eldurim. The game is on Steam Early Access, and has just been updated.

RPGWatch: Thanks for agreeing to do the interview. Can you tell us a little about yourself, and your game The Memory of Eldurim?

We started working on The Memory of Eldurim over a year ago because we love games of this genre and thought we had some unique ideas that could contribute to the genre. Some genres are flooded with great games while others only have a few. We love open world RPGs and love making video games, so we felt like we were ready to give it a shot.

It has been a long road but we have loved it and are glad that our game started emerging into the public. It's still early alpha but so far the response has been positive.

The Memory of Eldurim - Progress Report

by Couchpotato, Monday - February 10, 2014 00:45

Liminal Games has created a progress report for what features are being worked on to implement in the Early Access version of The Memory of Eldurim.

Here we will list what features are currently being worked on in what order. If an item is in this list it means that it is either not currently implemented or is still a work in progress.

The Memory of Eldurim - Now on Early Access

by Couchpotato, Saturday - February 08, 2014 03:54

The Memory of Eldurim is now available on Steam Early Access.

Why is The Memory of Eldurîm on Early Access?

The magic of Early Access is that it allows gamers and small independent studios to reclaim the game development process. When you buy the Memory of Eldurîm on Early access your money is going directly to the improvement of the game.

How long do plan to be in Early Access?

We have big plans for The Memory of Eldurîm. We want it to be a game that you can always come back to, to see what's new and what we've been adding. We have been working on putting in a story line. Once our story line has been finished and it is ready, we will release it, and bring our game out of Early Access.

What is the current state of the game?

Right now the game is a fully playable. It takes place on a large island that is fully explorable. There are enemies to fight, loot to find, spells to cast, bosses to defeat, and the very early beginnings of what will be our story line. Most importantly, the game is at a state where we update it often with significant changes that improve the gameplay.

What features are you planning to add to the game?

So many features. We will be adding in stealth combat, different combos for different weapon load outs, a lot more armor and weapons, more enemy types, more story line elements, stealth, faction interaction, more landmasses to explore, crafting, mounts, customizable character, improvements to the UI, and more.

We are going to add these features, and more like them for sure - but is there a feature that the community really wants? We are going to set up a system where users can submit ideas to be implemented in the game and vote on which ideas are the best. We want our community to help us determine how to make the Memory of Eldurîm the best gaming experience possible.

What is our pricing strategy during and after Early Access?

The Memory of Eldurîm will be a game you'll purchase only once during and after Early Access. You can buy now with confidence that we won't switch to a new model and leave you feeling cheated. We don't want to sell additional content via DLC, we want to keep content updates free for the life of the game. If our game is successful we would then sell additional games (e.g. The Memory of Eldurîm 2).”

The Memory of Eldurim - Early Access Release

by Couchpotato, Friday - February 07, 2014 01:04

Liminal Games has a new website and blog for The Memory of Eldurim. Along with this update we get news on the Early Access release.

Wrapping things up for release

Our game is getting very close to our Early Access release. We are putting a few final touches on to make sure everything is ready for when we go live.

Even if you’ve played the latest version of the demo you’ll still be in for a treat. We’ve added in a lot of new features to the game and many, many changes to the map.

And the latest update has the release date.

We are excited to announce the release date for The Memory of Eldurîm on steam early access will be this Friday. We hope you enjoy.

I also have a new video and some game details.

Terms like "Action RPG" and "Open world" get thrown around a lot these days, so let's be a bit more specific. The Memory of Eldurim is a 3rd/1st person game where you control a character that lives in an unique fantasy world.

The combat is fast paced. You'll have to time your attacks, blocks, and dodges for maximum effectiveness. From the first second you get in the game you are able to go to any part of the game, granted you are strong enough to take on the enemies that reside there.

There will be large cites and small towns, enchanting forests and icy mountain tops, there will be deserts, swamps, jungles, and any of the other biomes we can create.

The game will reward you for your attention to which weapons and spells are strong and effective against which armor and composition types. Certain enemies will be easy with the right load-out but nearly impossible when approached unwisely.

The Memory of Eldurim - Progress Update

by Couchpotato, Friday - January 17, 2014 02:49

Liminal Games has another update this week for The Memory of Eldurim.

Closer

Hello Everyone

A lot of very good things have happened at Liminal Games over the couple of weeks. We are getting close to a release of our game. We are working hard to put in the beginnings of the quest for the prelude. Once we have a solid quest line in place we are going to be releasing on Steam Early Access. This means that you will be able to help support Liminal Games by buying the game on early access.

Buying early access means that you will have access to all updates on our game as soon as we release them. We also want to make it so that once the game off early access you would still have the full game after purchasing. We think this is how most games already work but we want to make sure and specify.

We want to release as soon as we have the quest line in, and the game at a stable point. While we cannot give you an exact date, checking back here often for updates will be the best way to know. Just know this: We want the game to be released as soon as possible and are doing everything we can to make it happen.

by Couchpotato, Monday - January 13, 2014 04:38

Liminal Games has a new update for The Memory of Eldurim about getting the game  available on Steam Greenlight.

A Green Light

If you peruse the recently greenlit games section in steam you may be pleased to find The Memory of Eldurîm listed among the titles.

We are very excited to have completed the next step in getting our game distributed through steam. Today we spent a lot of time getting our page up and running as well as discussing the exact details on how we are going to get our game to your computers. We’ll have more information on this soon.

Thanks to everyone who gave us the thumbs up on Steam Greenlight. It sure means a lot to us to know that so many of you are so willing to support us. We could not have made it this far without you.

The Memory of Eldurim - Funding Unsuccessful

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - December 10, 2013 00:44

The Memory of Eldurim has failed to get funded on kickstarter. Liminal Games has been quiet with no update for a while, but have a post on the games webpage.

The Future of MoE and Liminal Games

Hello everyone,

As many of you are aware, our Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful. Many of you may have questions about what is going to happen now. Well, here come the answers!

First of all, we want to thank you so much for all the support we had. Obviously we hoped that things would catch on a bit more, but we recognized that success was not the only option. We felt that we had to try at this time because some of us are needing to make life altering decisions and the fate of the Kickstarter is an important variable in deciding what some of us need to do.

That being said, fear not! Development of The Memory of Eldurîm will continue! We are going to have to alter some of our plans, but we are determined to press forward.

Many of us are graduating from university at the end of this year and so finals are upon us as well as the busyness that comes with the holidays so we have been spread pretty thin. We are grateful for your patience.

The Kickstarter did show us that there is a demand for the game. Enough of you were willing to back us that we want to make sure that we keep our idea alive. We are not sure on all the details at the moment, but just know that there are still many things stirring behind the scenes that do look promising for our future.

Nearly 6000 people have downloaded the demo. Additionally, we have had an amazing response on our Steam Greenlight.

As soon as the dust settles from other outside influences in our lives, we will have more news for you.

Thanks again!

The Memory of Eldurim - Update #4. Pre-Alpha

by Couchpotato, Thursday - November 21, 2013 06:39

Liminal Games has news on the games latest kiclkstarter update that the pre-alpha version of The Memory of Eldurim has been updated. As for the game I have to say it's not looking good so please help spread the word everyone.

Massive Update to the Pre-Alpha

Hey cool guys and gals. Last night we pushed out a large update to the game. If you have already fired up the game and played then you have already seen the changes we have made. If you haven't played the game recently then go ahead and start it up, you won't be disappointed.

Environmentally Friendly

You may feel like you are in a whole new world when you start the game, and this is pretty much true. While the spirit of the original world remains, that's about it. Everything else dealing with island aesthetics have gone through a massive overhaul. Don't be shy, go explore it, and get excited because we are going to be working hard on filling it with friendly NPCs, quests, loot, and more.

Balance

We have reworked (not for the last time) the way armor and spells work. Armor is more important now, and spells increase in damage the more you use them (this was always the plan but now it actually works!).

The Future

What is next you ask? We are going to start back into a more rapid update cycle. We want to be pushing out more frequent updates to the game that make the world more fun and give the player more things to do other than explore. We are going to be working hard so keep checking back with us often and make sure to spread the word to any of your friends who might be interested in our game.

The Memory of Eldurim - Update #3, Magic

by Couchpotato, Sunday - November 17, 2013 03:01

Liminal Games posted the next update for The Memory of Eldurim that previews the games magic system, and comes with some new screenshots also.

An Aside About Spells

We want to implement a lot of spells. More importantly we want to implement a lot of unique spells. Of course many of the spells that we put in will have been done before in other games but that's not what we mean. What we mean is that we don't want to have every spell from every sphere be just copies of each other.

Here's what we mean: Right now you can cast burning hands. This is a melee range fast damaging spell that leaves the target burning. Instead of creating greater burning hands, which is just the same spell with more damage. We would rather the original spell get better the more you use it, to the point where it is still a good spell at any point of the game, so long as you are looking for a melee range fast damaging spell.

Will we run out of ideas for spells then? No. If anything this gives us the chance to be far more creative. We could still make a ranged fast damaging spell, a melee ranged spell that does no initial damage but heavy damage over time, a melee spell that does less damage but is completely silent (when stealth is required), a melee spell that does a single burst of massive damage with a long cool down, and variations that add negative attributes to the target or what have you.

This all goes into our combat system a more interactive event. Not only the in the way you click, but in the way you think before you start clicking. We want you to build your character to have the abilities you want and need to make your gaming experience personal and very fun.

The Memory of Eldurim - Kickstarter Update #2

by Couchpotato, Thursday - November 14, 2013 01:03

Liminal Games posted the second update of The Memory of Eldurim that shows off some new environment screenshots, and Music.

New Environment Screenshots! New Music!

We've all been working very hard to get the new environment to a place where we can push it out as an update through the launcher, and it's almost there, so stay tuned!  We also have a great new original track from a very talented composer Chris Kukla.

We are working hard to get a few new features ready including:

  • More Spells
  • Archery
  • A Mini Boss Fight

Thank you all for your support, and stay tuned for more great updates!

The Memory of Eldurim - Update #1, Island Overhaul Preview

by Couchpotato, Saturday - November 09, 2013 01:02

Liminal Games has posted the first update for The Memory of Eldurim giving us a preview of the Island Overhaul in progress right now.

Island Overhaul Preview

We are very grateful for the pledges thus far, and are humbled by your generosity.  We are excited to show some very early previews of what our new environment artist Sean O'Connor has been working on.  We are all working very hard to get the big map update out as well as the magic overhaul.  We are working on getting some boss fights into the new map, with some unique loot drops as well.  Check out some of the latest screenshots we have (still a work in progress, but coming along very nicely):

by Couchpotato, Friday - November 08, 2013 06:27

The Memory of Eldurîm

The Memory of Eldurîm is an open world RPG. The world in which you live is in constant upheaval. Political strife and religious turmoil are all around you, and not everything is as it seems. Your decisions and actions toward the individuals with whom you interact have far-reaching effects. Should you ally yourself with one faction, another may come to despise you. You will make friends and foes alike in your travels, leaving you to be revered and hated. Choose whom you will serve, destroy, or whom you will lead to victory.

Features

  • Open World - Explore an expansive and ever-growing world. From peaceful green forests to barren desert wastelands, we want you to experience it all.
  • Fast-Paced and Strategic Combat - Fight your enemies with your skill and your brain - this combat is not passive and it rewards your strategy.
  • A New Way to Level Up - Choose who you will be by the things you do, not by choosing a class. Every action in or out of combat has an effect on you in the very moment you take it.
  • All Paths of Progression are Viable - No one play style will clearly be more powerful than the rest. All methods and play styles will be separate but equal.
  • Your Approach Matters - Enemies, weapon types, armors, and spells all have strengths and weaknesses. You will be rewarded for your knowledge of your enemies and punished for your ignorance.
  • Evolving Magic System - Hone your magical abilities and unlock new powers through a unique blood shard system. Combine magic and weapons for even more ways to take down your enemies.
  • Frequent and Free Updates - Be a part of the development process as the game grows. Don't wait for DLCs. You buy the game once and you get all updates for free forever.
  • Unique and Dynamic Fantasy World - Face threats you have never before seen as you enter a brand new world. Watch as towns grow and groups come to accept you or revile you.
  • Engrossing Story - A dedicated writer has planned out a story line from beginning to end. Read a short story that takes place in our world here.

The Memory of Eldurim - A Open World ARPG

by Couchpotato, Sunday - October 27, 2013 04:07

The Memory of Eldurim is an Open World ARPG game in development by Liminal Games. The game will be on kickstarter soon so except more coverage in the following months.

For now I have a few videos, and the developer also has a short demo.

What is The Memory of Eldurîm?

The Memory of Eldurîm is an open world action RPG. Its closest relatives are game from the Elder Scrolls series. It is, however, distinct from these.

How is The Memory of Eldurîm going to be different from other games in its genre?

Our game is going to be differente in many ways. For a full list read our long “Philosophy of Design” page. But what we are really striving to accomplish is to make a game that is fun in every aspect. Some games make exploring fun, but fighting to level up is a chore; some games have really fun combat, but then the story line is uninspired. We really want to make a game that is fun.

What can you say about the story line?

Story is extremely important to us. In fact, it’s so important that we have dedicated a lot of time to developing it – a LOT of time. We are not just going to present a sequence of events to you but a story that contains meaningful  characters and a truly important message that we feel you’ll really enjoy. Read some of our short stories to start getting into it now. Also, we don’t know what the future holds but we need to tell you that our story line is planned out far beyond where this first game will end. We hope that we will be able to continue this story in the future with subsequent games – full blown games – not cheesy DLC. (We don’t like DLC, we want you to pay for the game once and get boatloads of content updates, really, that is what we want to happen.)

What platform will you release on?

Initially The Memory of Eldurîm will be a PC only game for Windows. Depending on what response we get and how things play out, we would certainly consider a release on Xbox One and PS4. If certain Engine restriction are removed we would also be very interested in a Linux and Mac version. That being said, the PC version will always remain uncompromised in regards to control, UI layout, and updates.
