Citizens of Earth - New Patch Released

by Couchpotato, Friday - April 17, 2015 05:24

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. announced today a new patch for Citizens of Earth was released.

Vice President of the World Activates the Citizens of Earth Political Action Traction Committee for Hope

Not content to sit on his laurels after taking office, Citizens of Earth's Vice President of the World mobilized his Political Action Traction Committee for Hope (patch) to get the Senate Sub-committee in charge of loading times to update the game with some important fixes. Now fans and newcomers to the citizen-collecting, retro JRPG-inspired role-playing game from ATLUS and Eden Industries have added/improved functionality at their fingertips!

One of the coolest changes is the addition of a retro chiptunes soundtrack menu option to help relive the glory days of the 16-bit era. This applies to every version of the game (PC, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS). There have also been stability improvements made across the board to help prevent crashes.

For the PS4/PS Vita versions of the game, Cross-Save, Remote Play and PSTV compatibility have been implemented.

Citizens of Earth - Chasing Earthbound is Hard

by Couchpotato, Thursday - January 29, 2015 04:13

HardcoreGamers's Thomas Ella has published an opinion piece where he talks about how Citizens of Earth proved that chasing Earthbound is harder than it looks.

It’s not that it’s a bad game; I read our review and I find little to disagree with. The game is filled to the brim with funny dialogue and offers a pretty fantastic take on modern Americana. It also streamlines many of the less appealing aspects of RPGs; I feel no compulsion to grind – if anything, I feel like I’m over-leveled. Recruiting more citizens to my party is more often satisfying than not, even if I see no reason to change over from the first three I recruited. Everything Citizens of Earth does is “pretty good,” and it would absolutely win an “Earthbound Spirit Award” if we had one, but something’s missing.

I want more games to try to be EarthboundCitizens of Earth is appeals to people exactly like me, acting as a sort of Earthbound highlight reel. For the most part, it succeeds. Its wiggling, hallucinogenic battle backdrops send me straight back to my childhood. Its pun-filled dialogue makes me snort with laughter and snap screenshots for later. Its outrageous character design never fails to make me smile. But there’s more to Earthbound than hitting cops with a yo-yo. Your mom isn’t just there to embarrass you – she’s always ready to send you her love by wire and keep the homesickness at bay. There’s a lot of admiration for Earthbound in Citizens of Earth, but there’s just not enough heart.

Citizens of Earth - Preview @ Gamer Headlines

by Couchpotato, Saturday - January 17, 2015 03:19

Laguna Levine of Gamer Headlines has the next hands-on preview of Citizens of Earth that i have found this week. Also I'm still looking for a member to review the game.

The Steam version of the game did have some bugs that caused crashes the first few days, but I haven’t had a crash since the updates were sent out. I’m expecting the launch to go rather smoothly so far, at least on PC. I’m only allowed to cover the game up to a certain point for pre-launch previews, but from what I’ve played so far, I’m having fun. This isn’t PR spin or media/industry favor trading. I actually had to decrease the difficulty level for a bit to ensure that I could see enough of the game to give you guys my impressions before the launch, and will be resetting it once this is published. I honestly have had a hard time getting into RPGs outside of sequels to games I liked when I was a kid. That being said, as I mentioned above, the game did appeal to me due to influence from certain games and mechanics I’m fond of, and while I started out as a critic, I have been following the game for awhile.

Citizens of Earth - New Screenshots Released

by Couchpotato, Thursday - January 08, 2015 00:10

Entertainment Buddha posted a few new screenshots for Citizens of Earth.

On January 20, 2015, the world is about to get a whole lot more interesting with the release of Citizens of Earth, the quirky, Earthbound-inspired sendup to SNES era role-playing games.

Citizens of Earth’s charming art style and off-kilter humor instantly shines through with each trailer and new screenshot released, painting a strange – yet instantly enjoyable – vision of a big man in a small rural town.

As the Veep attempts to relax in his hometown, it becomes clear that something is amiss. In order to get to the bottom of the strange events, the Veep chugs a cup (or two) of coffee before recruiting an eclectic party of friends, family and other colorful characters on an exhaustive journey to save the world.

In celebration of Citizens of Earth’s upcoming release, a colorful batch of new screenshots have been released, showcasing the game’s battle system as well as some of the game’s various locations.

If any veteran member is interested in doing a review you can send me a PM.

Citizens of Earth - Delayed to 2015

by Couchpotato, Saturday - November 08, 2014 05:06

Atlus announced today that Citizens of Earth will now be released in 2015.

Citizens of Earth Delayed Until Jan. 20, 2015

VP wins election! ...But a fortune cookie told him to wait 57 days before any major life changes!

As a lot of politicians are finding out this week, you can put a whole lot into a campaign and get a victory in November only to find out that your new job doesn't start until January. The Vice President of the World found this out too - running on five platforms isn't easy, and though there's a lot of hard work already done, he won't be taking office until January. Full release below and some new screenshots here!

IRVINE, Calif. - Nov. 4, 2014 - People love the new Vice President of the World, but he won't be taking office until Jan. 20, 2015. The retro-inspired RPG from Atlus U.S.A., Inc. and Eden Industries will be releasing in early 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The Vice President of the World would like to strongly denounce the nefarious political forces that are preventing him from taking office in the originally planned month of November, while simultaneously applauding the voters and party constituencies who have supported him and his $14.99/€11.99 political pric...er, platform.  See you all in 2015!

Citizens of Earth pits players as the second-highest-paid bureaucrat in the land. The game begins just after winning a long, drawn-out candidacy, and the VP returns to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected official he has two responsibilities: investigate what's caused people to go crazy... and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible. Citizens of Earth has 40 wacky citizens the VP can recruit to form a party and send into battle in his place.

Citizens of Earth will be available for $14.99/€11.99 in North America and Europe beginning on Jan. 20, 2015 as a download-only title for the PS4, PS Vita, 3DS, Wii U and PC. Developed by Eden Industries and published by ATLUS, check out the official website for more information:http://www.atlus.com/citizensofearth

Citizens of Earth - November Release

by Couchpotato, Sunday - August 17, 2014 18:14

ATLUS sent a short PR statement that Citizens of Earth will be released in November.

Citizens of Earth Hits PSN, Nintendo eShop, and Steam for $14.99 in November

The good news is that we'll be releasing Citizens of Earth for $14.99 on each of the five platforms it's available for. That's PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PC if you haven't been keeping count!

In effort to have more champagne time - whoops, I mean CAMPAIGN time! - we are pushing back the release of Citizens of Earth from October, 2014, to the coincidentally-more-suitable election month: November!

No one likes delaying games, but hopefully the $14.99 price point for 30+ hours of classic JRPG-inspired entertainment will assuage those pains.

Citizens of Earth - Funding Unsuccessful

by Couchpotato, Saturday - October 26, 2013 00:44

For anyone following EdenIndustries Citizens of Earth the kickstarter was unsuccessful. Still all is not lost as announced in this new update.

Citizens of Earth lives on!

Well unfortunately, the Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful. Perhaps there are things we could've done differently, but we're choosing to look forward at what is still to come with Citizens of Earth, not focus on the past.

And in that vein let me assure you, Citizens of Earth is not dead! Far from it in fact. Not only are we pouring our hard work and passion into the game each and every day, which has already improved the quality significantly beyond the demo we released, but there are a lot of amazing developments happening behind the scenes. One of which, our acceptance onto Steam, you already know about. In these days of Greenlight, being automatically accepted onto Steam is an honour we accept very graciously and humbly, and we're thankful to Valve for their vote of confidence in the quality of Citizens of Earth.

In addition to all that, there are plenty of other things in the works that I can't really talk about at the moment but which are very good signs for the game.

I hope you'll continue to support and follow along with the game's development. You can follow us on Twitter(https://twitter.com/EdenIndustries or https://twitter.com/CoEGame), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eden-Industries/292123117469622 or https://www.facebook.com/CitizensOfEarthGame) and our website (www.edenindustries.ca

Whenever we have a stable build ready, we'd love to have you help us test it if you're so inclined. I'll probably do a Kickstarter update whenever we have a new build, in addition to mentioning it on Facebook and Twitter. So if you're following any of those, you hopefully won't miss it. And we'd be eternally grateful for your help in providing feedback and catching nasty obscure bugs.

Citizens of Earth - Preview Roundup

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - September 25, 2013 00:13

I managed to roundup two previews of the recently launched kickstarter Citizens of Earth.

Slimgamer

The game promises a huge amount of non-linear exploration and a ton of characters to unlock, all in a fresh cartoon style – purposely poking fun at the modern Western world – have a look below. A lot of work and reason why Eden Industries started their Kickstarter campaign even though the game already exists. They have been working on it for a year. “While developing the game we realized that the amount of content, specifically art-assets, required to make the game was more than we were able to afford.’

Shacknews

It's clear that Earthbound is the biggest inspiration for the game, from its zany writing to its colorful cartoon graphics. However, even the combat takes a page from Nintendo's cult RPG series. At the start of every turn, you pick an action for each citizen. Battle commences once all your actions have been selected.

Citizens of Earth - A Modern RPG

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - September 24, 2013 00:28

Citizens of Earth is a new kickstarter asking for $100,000. It's described as a modern RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World, and all of the heroes are regular people.

Due to incredibly overwhelming demand and interest, we've released our demo to the world, grab it now! It's only for Windows at the moment unfortunately though. And it's obviously early in development, so there will be issues. But we hope you have fun! And feel free to leave a comment with feedback.

It’s an RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World! Citizens of Earth combines the modern setting and humorous tone of Earthbound with the recruitment mechanics of games like Pokemon and Suikoden. Rather than recruiting fantasy heroes to your cause, however, Citizens of Earth is all about bringing regular characters into the spotlight as heroes. Instead of warriors and mages and other such fantasy tropes in your party, you’ll be fighting with a Baker, Used Car Salesman, School Teacher, Yoga Instructor, and so on. The characters that would normally be NPCs in other RPGs become the heroes in Citizens of Earth!
