Celestial Tear - Review @ Cliqist

by Hiddenx, Wednesday - December 09, 2015 21:41

Cliqist has reviewed the episodic J-RPG Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge:

Turn based RPGs are a favorite pastime of mine, ever since I first played a Final Fantasy game. And RPG Maker has proven to be a great programming tool for those wanting to develop games inspired by the greats. Which is one reason why I was very much interested in seeing how the first episode of Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge played out. It does have its flaws, particularly in regards to length and certain frustrating encounters, but overall it shows promise in the remaining two chapters.

[...]

Despite my frustrations I did still enjoy what has been released of Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge so far. The plot has intrigued me to the point that I am interested to see where they take the narrative in the next installments. The idea of one group of people branding another as evil just for being “different” resonates in me and I’d love to see Sen and Jagen meet each other, to see their reactions, and maybe form a bond despite them being an “enemy” to each other. If there’s one thing that I really hated about my experience is that I couldn’t watch the cutscenes. It could be my system but they ran so choppily that I couldn’t understand what was going on. At least the rest of the game played smoothly enough to enjoy my playthrough.

Celestial Tear - Release Date & Backer Rewards

by Couchpotato, Monday - April 06, 2015 06:00

Another game I forgot about after being funded is called Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge, and we even interviewed the developer. Now his game has a new release date.

It is now April and most of the rewards were due last month. We do apologize for the delay. We now plan to release the game in the summer and we are in progress of getting the rest of the rewards as soon as possible. Our soundtrack for chapter one is nearly complete and we have over 24 tracks for it. We have a few motion comics in progress and we will be featured on steam when we launch. We have recently realized that some of our backers have yet to receive their wallpapers and we will send a message out individually to see if they had received it yet.

A big reason the game is being delayed is due to our production quality increasing, marketing and bringing our game up to industry standards. We apologize for the delay but we hope you will still enjoy the hard work and effort we are putting into this project.

CT: Demon's Revenge - Plans For March

by Couchpotato, Sunday - March 01, 2015 04:55

Trexrell's latest update for CT: Demon's Revenge has information about the developers plan for march. The update talks about a new demo, and release date.

Big Plans For March

So we are ending our February and coming into what could be our biggest event since our Kickstarter campaign. We are on a schedule of releasing our playable demo by the third week of March. We want to give you guys a little incite of what the demo will contain and how things have changed since our campaign up until now.

Demo News

The demo will be about an hour long depending on how you play it. It will be more or less an intro into the actual story and feature our main character. When we release the demo we are really going to be looking for some strong feedback, everything will be upgraded and we feel we can not make a great experience without your input. Our goal is to make a really great game, we want the game to do well commercially and critically.

The Full Game

We have plans to release the game in the near two to three months. That being said, I want to clarify what this game will feature and what may be left out as far as the first chapter goes. As you all should know, this game is going to be chapter 1 of a full length RPG experience. We aim to make the chapters at least between 14 and 17 hours. We have 3 playable characters, 8 areas in 4 locations, and a few secret ones too, all in the first chapter.

What we may or may not be leaving out is an additional playable character and 3 more areas which would just take a little bit more time but could be added to the next chapter. We shall find out what we could do with that by the end of March.

Let us know how you feel about this as we want you all to feel like you are getting your pledge's worth. We want everyone to feel satisfied with our game and their pledge so if you have any concerns at all please feel free to let us know! We are always willing to talk about it and we will respond promptly.

CT: Demon's Revenge - Kickstarter Update

by Couchpotato, Thursday - December 25, 2014 05:38

The kickstarter page for CT: Demon's Revenge had a few more updates in the past two months. You can read all of them here, but here is the most important information.

We will soon be deleting our Steam greenlight entry because we will be working with a digital publishing company called Degica, who will get us on steam among other platforms. They have published a few games on Steam, gamestop.com and Amazon. They will also be helping us with translating the game to japanese as well as doing some promotion.

This is a dream come true and I want to let you all know that we truly appreciate everything you have done and that we are off to a great start. We will try to do an update every 2 weeks no matter how big or small.

CT: Demon's Revenge - Successfully Funded

by Couchpotato, Monday - November 03, 2014 05:55

The Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge kickstarter has been funded, and the games developer Trexrell posted a new update to thank all the backers of the game.

Thanks to all of you fantastic people for funding our project. This has been a long time coming and we are ready to get to work on our game and bring you an amazing experience. There have been so many risks and sacrifices that we have taken in order to get this game to the state it is in and with your help it is going to be even better. It is going to have better animations, more music, more art and everything in between. This is truly a dream come true and we hope you all continue to join us in our development. Bringing our characters to life in this game to you all will be an honor.

For those of you who will still like to pledge through paypal we are giving you a limited time to still claim some of the lower tier rewards. So we will be placing a link to the paypal here for you to pledge on our website for those rewards. Later we will change it to simple donations, and a time after that we will want to sell T-shirts or possibly hoodies for those who are interested.

Celestial Tear - Campaign Almost Over

by Couchpotato, Thursday - October 30, 2014 15:50

The kickstarter campaign for Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge has three days left, and the games developer Trexrell posted a new update with information.

20% to go!!!

80% and rising! We are really doing well, we almost have 200 backers which is exciting for us. With less than $900 to go we are really moving and gaining momentum on reaching our goal. This is probably the most important moment in our lives from here we can do really great things and we are glad you all are a part of it. With just 4 days we are looking at really good things for the future of our game and start up.

Is Sen offensive?.....

Just recently we got a message that our main character portrait could come off as offensive. As we have pointed out before we give our artist concept and let him have a bit of creative control on how the characters are presented. One of the things he did was make Sen's chest a bit more detailed. It never bothered us and we did not look at that as a big deal. In fact, we figured he took her story and used it as a way to show that she lacked some knowledge and resources having lived by herself in a secluded place. We figured the people who support us would know better.  As you would also be the demographic for anyone who is actually interested in the game. I always figured it was very insignificant and posed little attention to anyone. This game features some pretty mature subjects and we figure those who play this would be the same.

Celestial Tear - Recorded Live Stream

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - October 22, 2014 05:07

Trexrell posted a new video of a live stream he did for CT: Demon's Revenge.

We streamed this on 10/20/14 on our twitch channel! This is pt 1... We had some troubles getting our mic to work, but we eventually got it and this is where we left off. You can watch me lose at my own game.

Celestial Tear - Publisher Interested in Funding

by Couchpotato, Sunday - October 19, 2014 03:33

The latest update for CT: Demon's Revenge has news from Trexrell he has a publisher interested in funding his game, and shares a link to our interview.

Publishing

We have been in talks with a publisher who wants to help with the overall polish of the game. They are not funding us or anything, but I think as backers you all would like to know this information. We have always talked about publishing before. It is something that we were never really looking for because of legal reasons and to protect our IP. These guys are working with us to come up with some solutions and I'm hoping they could use their network to get the rest of the funding that we would need, if we do decide to partner with them.

We do not want to mention the publisher until we are completely sure we are doing business with them.

We have had a really fun interview at RPGWatch. We talk about using our current engine, how we formed our company and the plans we have for the game. We even go over some of the systems in the game a bit deeper than we expressed at other places. Give it a look, I think it is a pretty good read.

2 Weeks Left!!!

We are almost at the official half way mark of our campaign. We need as much help as possible. It feels really good to get where we are right now, but we really have to make some moves. We are on twitter, facebook and reddit trying to spread the word, but we need your help too.

Celestial Tear - Updated Demo & Reddit

by Couchpotato, Saturday - October 18, 2014 03:42

CT: Demon's Revenge has a few new kickstarter updates this week. The most important one is about a new updated demo, and a new new Reddit AMA to ask more questions.

Updated Demo & Reddit

So as the campaign goes on, we are also trying to get some more development done. Whitney has been hammering out some new issues that have come up during recent testing of the demo. We have seen things from streams and lets plays that are an issue, and we have been taken care of most of them. We want the game to be as bug free as possible, even in its current form we want players to have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Version 1.06

- Guarding is now working as it should. (Last update I just made it work, but now it works properly lol)

- Spamming the slice button gets Jagen stuck in that position forever has been FIXED.

- Jagen's evasion pose is fixed now.

- Fixed tripling damage bug.

- Rebalancing of enemies damage values.

- Various tweaks.

- Fixed some menu mishaps.

- Updated Demo Download

We have just launched yet another Reddit thread. If you guys would like to help us in some conversation about the game we could gain some more attention and possibly more fans. I opened up a thread to openly talk about the game right now and what it could possibly be. With your help we can produce a much better game.

RPGWatch - CT: Demon's Revenge Interview

by Couchpotato, Friday - October 17, 2014 09:16

I managed to get a new interview for Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge with the games main developer Trexrell. So give the interview a read, and help fund the game.

Couchpotato: Trexrell, can you give a brief history about yourself and your company White Guardian Studios?

Trexrell: Sure! White Guardian Studios is a company formed by me, Tyrell, and my wife Whitney White. The name is White is derived from our last name, a union that we and our family share and Guardian is just something we both felt fit with a lot of things that we were going for in terms of the quality that we wanted to put into our games. Our slogan was going to be "Guarding you from bad games," haha. That's obviously too cheesy. We strive to make the best game we possibly can make for everyone to play.

Game making has just been a passion we shared with each other. We have been making games before and even more so after we met. We started off as content creators in the MUGEN community, there I perfected my spriting abilities and we were able to bring the game up to the quality of what it is now. Whitney created Demon's Revenge way before we met and has continued to work on it every waking day of her life. That is dedication. I do not think we would be where we are without her persistence and getting things the exact way she wants.

During our first campaign we were able to meet a very talented artist named Ricky Gunawan who was able to understand our vision with comic book art and really evolve the presentation to what it is now. We feel he is much a part of the team as my wife and I and he has supported us since day one.

We also work with a brilliant musician named Mark McKeich. He has been in the maker community for some time. He was able to use our older compositions and really bring out that epic and dramatic feel we need for our project.

Celestial Tear - 50% Funded & Feeling Good

by Couchpotato, Sunday - October 12, 2014 08:21

I announced yesterday that Celestial Tear has launched on kickstarter, and it's off to a good start as the game is half funded with twenty one days left.

50% funded! And a look to past Kickstarters

So you guys can not understand what it feels like for us to be in this position having gone through 3 previous kickstarter campaigns. The excitement and joy we have are immeasurable. I think it is really difficult for someone to understand where we are coming from unless you were there at the beginning. A lot of our backers understand how we have evolved from previous campaigns and know the humble beginnings of where our game began as opposed to where it is now.

In this update we will link everyone to the older campaign's updates so you will see how we evolved and know that we have always worked hard in order to get this game to see the light of day.

Celestial Tear - Relaunched On Kickstarter

by Couchpotato, Saturday - October 11, 2014 06:39

Trexrell has relaunched his kickstarter game Celestial Tear: Celestial Tear, and is asking for $4,500 with twenty two days left to go. I'll have a new interview later this week.

My name is Tyrell White and with the help of my wife, Whitney, we are the co-founders of the indie development team known as White Guardian Studios. We are game enthusiasts who love making games even more than we love playing them. We have three kids who love the idea of making games as much as we do, probably because that is what they have seen us do since they were born.

Making games has become a lifestyle for us. It is what we do for fun and what we have always envisioned ourselves doing as a career ever since we met at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

We have been developing Demon's Revenge off and on for about 4 years now. We have taken time to hone our skills in developing the exact project we have always envisioned from the beginning. Now we are ready to get this game done! As much as a love letter this game is to the classics we respect and enjoy, it is also one for the relationship my wife and I have. We are gamers and we love games. It is a passion that we want to share with the world.

The developers also offer a demo for everyone to try.

Celestial Tear - Campaign Almost Over

by Couchpotato, Thursday - October 02, 2014 02:12

The Celestial Tear:Demon's Revenge kickstarter has 20 hours left, and looks like it will fail at getting funded. The developer also posted a new update about the projects status.

Our campaign is coming to its end.

This has been another great experience with just a little time left we are still looking to do this. Maybe I just have a lot of faith but we shall see what happens in the end. Regardless of whatever happens I want you all to know we appreciate your time spent into our campaign. We have a great game and it will be made!

I believe we have a story that needs to be told. We want to bring more diversity into the gaming world and we feel we have the tools to make it into something big. I think that is the dream of most indie developers is to be the next Super Meat Boy, or Braid.

I believe this is something that will put my kids through college and give my family a better life. There is nothing like being able to use your talents to support your family. If we just had this one chance to show everyone what we could really do, we know we could shock the world. We will never know until we get this opportunity. If it happens now or a month from now, we will always remember the people who supported us first.

Thanks again for all your support we truly appreciate it.

Celestial Tear - Official Update #2

by Couchpotato, Friday - September 05, 2014 04:28

Trexrell has posted the second update for Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge that answers a few backer, and non-backers concerns about the game.

Questions and concerns from people:

We were asked a question in a facebook group and we thought maybe more people would have that concern, so we will provide the answer here in hopes of answering any funding questions.

facebook wrote: "What is $4,800 worth of dev going to get you that you require a kickstarter for it?"

Tyrell White: "Well a lot of people go on kickstarter to work on the project full time. It allows my wife to work on the game full time. Since she does most of the work. The 4,800 will mostly go to living expenses which allows me to work less time at my job and concentrate more on the game for 3 months. The 4,800 will cover all our living expenses for three months. My income will supplement that until January or the opposite which ever way you want to look at it. With the rest of the money going to our artist, musician, and tile artist. By that time we would have all the resources and my wife will complete the development cycle. Even if the resources take a little more time we have half a year in 2015 to put everything together."

If any of you guys have any question or concerns about our project please let us know. We will be more than happy to answer all of them. I really want to engage with you guys so do not be afraid to comment we can take any and all feedback and apply it to the game to make it better.

We have just begun a post on Reddit if you guys would help us out by voting it up and of course asking us a few questions, it would help us out tremendously.

We also could use a bit of a boost from some major news sites. We feel that we have a really good project and most news sites usually like to know that there is an audience before they even write articles about a particular subject. Two major sites that we know could help us tremendously is Rock Paper Shotgun and Kotaku. If you feel the same way about our project or just feel the need to help us out please let them know by sending them an email. This could send our project from fund-able into the realm of achieving more funding and reaching stretch goals. We are moving on a rather nice pace but we need all of your support. If you would like to help us, here are the emails for news tips.

Celestial Tear - Official Update # 1

by Couchpotato, Thursday - September 04, 2014 05:35

Trexrell has posted the first update for Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge about he games fist few days on kickstarter, and talks about the games reception with backers.

CT:DR Official Update # 1

We are so excited with the turnout of our previous and new backers. You guys are probably the greatest thing that could have happened to us in this campaign. We have a long road ahead of us and we are ready to get this done.  The reception from the video is positive. We have many updates to go over such as the contest voting that began prior to this campaign, as well as going over some of the features we neglected to put on the campaign page because it would have become a very long page of information.

If anyone has any feedback on rewards or even things that you would like to know about the team or the game please, do not be hesitant to ask. This has been a long couple of days for us and we need to get some sleep. We are going to take it down for the night and we will see you guys in the morning. Thanks again for your support.

Celestial Tear - Kickstarter Relaunch

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - September 03, 2014 02:26

Trexrell has relaunched his second kickstarter for Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge, and is asking for $12,000 to help find his new RPG. Here are the details once again.

Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge was developed with the idea of making a JRPG that was unique but also built on the same premise which made those titles in the early 90's so great. Inspired by the likes of Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 2, and also the exploration and puzzle solving of Wild Arms 2nd Ignition, Demon’s Revenge accepts the challenge to be hailed as one of the greats.

We are currently running a Steam Greenlight campaign. We are also running an epocu campaign to generate more support. We are also planning on doing another kickstarter campaign on September 2nd.

The developer also sent a few videos, and a new Demo for everyone the try.

I also have a few more previews so here they are for more infomation.

IndieGameMag

Celestial Tear promises to bring us to a familiar form of RPG, focusing less on graphics and more on characters, stories, and an immersive world.

Indie Games

Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge. It'll have an art style based on comic book art from the west rather than from the east, a story that sounds like it has plenty of potential for character development and exploration of dark themes.

Cliqist

If you’re a fan of JRPGs, definitely keep an eye on Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge, because the level of polish displayed in the Kickstarter video makes me hopeful, and I encourage you to check it out.

The developer is also on our forums under the name Trexrell, and his latest post has news about a new contest where you can design a new Boss enemy.

We are so excited to be putting up these creative images from participants of the contest! We want to wish everyone luck. We will actually have 2 winners, one voted by the community and one voted by us, the developers!

Celestial Tear - Interview @ Indie Game Mag

by Couchpotato, Friday - August 29, 2014 06:28

The Indie Game Magazine did a new interview with the developer of Celestial Tear Terrell. You can also ask him any question on his forum thread on our site.

Celestial Tear - Kickstarter Relaunch Update

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - August 27, 2014 06:30

I mentioned Celestial Tear Demon's Revenge a few months back when the first kickstarter was launched, and since then the games developer Trexrell has joined our forums.

He posts new updates on a weekly basis, and his website has news about a new Kickstater Relaunch. Here is a new video, and a kickstartrer preview.

Kickstarter Third Strike!

Through a lot of preparing, research and whatever time we have had to develop, we have decided to relaunch our Kickstarter campaign. We will be doing this on September 2nd.

We feel it is the right time. If we wait any longer, it will significantly hinder our plans to finish the game by the second quarter of 2015. We have worked whatever time we have had into our project and we need the time and resources to move forward with our project.

With that being said we have also adopted a smaller goal. We have decided to go with a goal of $12,000. This will not affect the quality of the game that we are planning to make but it will slightly alter the content. We are still going to be making the same game. We do hope to make the grand scheme of the game after this initial release. Whitney has rewritten the story to make it shorter. That means that this part of the game will span between 14-20 hours and will not feature all 12 playable characters, but instead 6. The story will complete itself making it a full experience, but we will continue it in an extended DLC which will bring the story to its epic conclusion. For anyone who pledges to receive the game on kickstarter they will get this DLC for free. So if anyone has any questions or concerns, let us know. We will be happy to address them.

You can also try out a new updated demo of the game here.

Celestial Tear - A New RPG Kickstarter

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - April 30, 2014 01:57

White Guardian Studios sent a new press release with information about their upcoming kickstarter called Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge that will launch in May.

White Guardian Studios LLC Is Beginning A Kickstarter Campaign For The New Sci-Fi Fantasy Game Called Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge In May

Long Island, NY - 04/28/2014 - White Guardian Studios is a small indie game company that is developing their first intriguing fantasy game for game lovers around the world. The developers have been hard at work preparing their new RPG titled Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge, for a kickstarter campaign beginning on May 5th.

Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge is an exciting sci-fi fantasy game that begins on the diverse planet of Hasphal. Humans believe that the native creatures are dangerous and disfigured demons from a hellish place called Remerin that should be defeated in the honor and name of their Gods, and for the protection of the inhabitants of the world.

However, the game’s players will soon notice that not everything is what it seems to be. They will be able to completely plunge into the dangerous and thrilling world of epic battles, enjoying this fully animated system. They will join the adventures of Sen, who uncovers the mysteries about the real Hasphal’s history and its “perilous” inhabitants, finding out more about herself, too. The game is full of puzzles and secret areas that will keep the gamers’ attention engaged all the time, while they experience the story with the motion comic cut scenes and 2D pixel animations.

Gamers will be able to carefully plan their strategies in this familiar, yet unique battle system, using the power of the environment or being defeated by it. An advantage over the enemies can be gained when the player throws pillars or cuts down trees, among other things. Multiple artifacts wait to be uncovered and explored.

Everyone will enjoy the contrasted world of Hasphal with its high mountains, deep oceans, mystical forests and cities with impressive landmarks. The game is based on a day and night system with multiple engaging and fun puzzles to be solved. The Kickstarter campaign will be looking to fund art assets, music, and some pixel work with a modest goal of $30,000.
