Inquisitors,

With our recent sale of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr Definitive Edition many of you wondered whether this might be a sign of imminent delisting or some kind of ceasing of online services. This is absolutely, definitely not the case.

We believe in preserving our work for future players, so Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr is not going to be delisted nor become unusable. This is true for all DLCs also. The game was conceived as an online experience and it was presented in an online mode for a reason. However, we'd also like to ensure that everybody can play, so naturally, we have plans to add an offline mode sometime in the near future, with an additional surprise!

In short: Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr will not be purged from existence. There's one simple reason for this:

The Emperor Protects.

A new DLC for Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr has been announced, which includes a new playable class.

NeocoreGames is happy to announce that a new playable class DLC, an INQUISITOR with an ADEPTA SORORITAS background, is coming soon to Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr.

Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe are surely familiar with the Adepta Sororitas. The Sisters of Battle are devout followers of the Emperor, and a bastion against corruption and heresy across the Imperium. They lay waste to the heretics with a wide array of weaponry ranging from Flamers to Blessed Blades and Neural Whips, however, their faith is said to be a weapon stronger than any steel. Through this zealous faith they invoke powers beyond measure to perform Saintly Deeds, silencing every last heretic's final cries.

The Sisters of Battle background will bring new class mechanics and item types to Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor as well. Players will be able to access various Acts of Faith to empower their characters and allies, or smite enemies, as well as further customize their playstyle through the Sacred Rite passive skills. With strong enough Faith, the Sister of Battle will transform into Embodied Saint form and gain access to a wide array of unique abilities, feared across the entire Caligari Sector.
 

The 'SORORITAS' DLC is arriving in 2022, first on PC, and later on consoles.

W40K: Inquisitor-Martyr - Version 2.0 Coming May

Gamingbolt reports that Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor will receive a 2.0 update May 28th.

The action RPG came out originally on PC June 18th 2018 to mixed reception. Since then, the developers have released the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and have featured several updates to improve the game based on community feedback. This major update will rework and update a lot of the game’s internal systems, including the progression system, level cap, endgame content, the loot system, and a lot more.

The long-awaited Season 2 has arrived to the PC version of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr, introducing the theme of the Blood God, Khorne.

An unexpected Chaos incursion into the vaults of a renowned Navigator House exposes a disturbing new conflict in a forsaken region of the Caligari Sector. The trail of buried secrets leads to a place that shouldn’t even exist and unleashes the tide of carnage that will soon engulf entire planets if the agents of the Inquisition cannot stop the mayhem of Khorne, the Chaos God of war, rage and hate.

The new Season for “Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr” will let loose the bloodthirsty followers of Khorne in the Caligari Sector, opening up a new Subsector with new star systems, introducing the Daemons of Khorne and the visually stunning and macabre gameplay mechanics designed to conjure the atmosphere of battling the violent and primal followers of the Blood God, while two brand new investigations will tell the dark story behind the existence of the Voidrippers, the unique sandboxed Chaos Space Marine Chapter worshipping Khorne.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor—Martyr review

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor—Martyr, which I am going to just call 'Martyr' from now on if that's cool with you, is a rare action-RPG set in the 40K universe. It seems odd nobody's done 'Warhammer plus Diablo' before now, but that's what Martyr is. 

The inquisitors are 40K's secret police who investigate heresy, and an odd choice for a game of killstreaks and loot rather than mystery and interrogations. You choose from three flavors of inquisitor—crusader, psyker, and assassin mapping onto warrior, wizard, and rogue—and then plunge into a giant spaceship monastery called the Martyr which has been taken over by cultists and daemons.

Actually, there's a lot you have to play for 10 or 20 hours to see, whether it's systems like the underused moral choices, of which there are only a few in the entire campaign, or the vehicle sections that let you drive a tank and a mech. In some investigations I got to make decisions that altered missions like whether to hire hackers or psychics to scope out an underhive before going in, but too rarely. All this cool stuff is used and tossed aside, and to get to it you have to fight a lot of samey enemies in dark corridors where the camera won't show you what's going on.

It's frustrating because when it's good it really is good. There's a cover system that feels right when you're hunkered down with a rifle lining up an aimed shot, which involves a targeting system like a spinning roulette wheel, which stops on the body part that wins a bullet. Pillars and other bits of level furniture fall to pieces once the bolter rounds start flying. They patched the jetpack and now it's a proper whooshy slamdunk. Everything's technogothic, with automated doors and even your storage locker having the human faces of lobotomized criminals or clones who've been cyborgized into service.

There's a quote in the 40K books that goes, "The universe is a big place, and whatever happens, you will not be missed." That's what Martyr makes me think of. A big universe of stuff, but spread so thin the good bits are easy to miss.

A Purge Gone Wrong

If there is one franchise no one can say has too few video games under its belt is Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000. From RTS to 4X4 to FPS to MMO, Warhammer 40K has seen it all. Some of it good, some- not so much. Yet the ARPG genre popularised by Diablo remained an uncharted territory for the Emperor’s champions. That is, up until Neocore Games came up with the awkwardly titled Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. Let’s see how it did, shall we?

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is an Action Role-Playing Game developed and published by Neocore Games. After spending a bit of time in Steam’s Early Access program, Martyr was relased for Microsoft Windows on 5 Jun, 2018 with PS4 and Xbox One versions releasing on August 23.

VERDICT

It’s hard to recommend Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr at it’s current state and pricepoint. I can’t help but feel that Martyr would have been way more comfortable being something akin to Relic’s Space Marine. There is still a chance that Neocore can change the game around with the planned content updates. But right now, if you are not a die-hard 40K fan who doesn’t mind shelling out full price, there are better ARPG alternatives that offer much more, at a lesser cost.

Inquisitor relishes in sending waves upon waves of units towards the player, some of which are alarmingly powerful. As a Psyker, I battled while utilizing the Warp, an otherworldly power that seeks the corrupt all that use it. Using the Warp, I would teleport around the room, killing everything that I encountered while judiciously using my spells and hiding behind my cover when needed.

Sometimes I got my butt kicked, sending me back a few rooms and letting me ponder what exactly I did wrong. Inquisitor is great in that way, as it doesn’t punish the player unless they make a mistake. If you become surrounded and later massacred by screeching enemies, there was a sequence of mistakes that led to that moment. Usually, it was along the lines of deciding to run in there guns (or in this case staff) blazing instead of moving forward cautiously. This is a game that demands focus and not an insignificant amount of skill, which only serves to elevate Inquisitor’s combat above most of its contemporaries.

Gamerpros compared Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr to Diablo 3.

Level Design

First thing that really differentiate Martyr from Diablo III is the level structure. Diablo III is known for huge, open, maze-like levels, which change each time you play. Levels are littered with enemies, meaning there is plenty for you to do, but backtracking caused by the randomized nature of the levels (as well as sheer scale of each area), makes it feel bit dreary at times. This also means that a single mission can take a significant time investment to complete. Since you cannot save your progress mid-level, you need to have at least an hour to spare to even considering starting a game session.

Martyr completely eliminates that issue. Each level in Martyr is quite a small, confined experience that could take as little as ten minutes to complete. This is all thanks to the decision to have smaller separate areas for every mission, instead of having many missions in a one single map. This makes the game much more approachable, and means you can get your ARPG fix in short bursts.

Review: Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr

FOR EMPER... or... Look, I really can't get excited about this any more.

I’m not the only one who’s a little jaded by the rapid release date of games based on Games Workshop franchises. As the satirical games website Point and Clickbait notes, it feels like just about anyone can get into the action. So it’s rare that a game like Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr comes along – that is, a game that I’m actually genuinely keen to play.

Martyr – no WAY am I saying the overblown full name every time – is essentially grim-dark take on the action RPG genre, as typified by Diablo. But instead of a dungeon, you’re exploring the bowels of a gigantic, abandoned space-hulk, whose gleaming bulkheads and rusted partitions gradually give way to gore-soaked corridors and the fleshy architecture of the corruption of Chaos. And instead of a stalwart adventurer, you play a stalwart Inquisitor of the Imperium – a loyal servant of the Emperor with enough clout and confidence to talk to back even to Space Marines.

If you hate the constant fight, loot, gear-up, repeat process of Diablo, this might appeal, but when all you’ve got each level is just click-killing everything in sight, the game gets a little dull, and the terri-bad voice-acting doesn’t do Martyr any favours either. 

Which is, all up, a real shame, as there is the structure of a good game here. But the end product just doesn’t add up to something worth sticking with.

Verdict

A gorgeous game in looks, but repetitive and miserly in its gameplay. And that voice acting - UGH!

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor –Martyr isn’t bad, but it feels like it’s missing that spark to be really enjoyable. When playing with hack-and-slash action you want to feel involved, but the fights in Martyr feel like someone else is playing the game. Sure there are some fun moments and maybe it will grow into a more enjoyable experience post-launch, but for the here and now, it probably isn’t worth your time.

Inquisitor - Martyr is a great bit of hack-and-slash fun so far and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing where its gritty story takes me, even if it does have some cringy voice acting. As its many systems untangle themselves and I learn to wield them to my advantage I find myself questioning their worth, but the meat of the game is still as good as it was the first time I cleaved a bunch of chaos spawn with my two-handed power axe.

Hooked Gamers

Martyr has changed so much since I played the alpha; a range of new features from maps types, to crafting, to the vital army painter (every Warhammer game should have one) which greatly increase the customization and variety of the game. There are still some bugs, but I’ve never experienced any game-ending ones since playing this version. I also always think it’s important to acknowledge that bugs don’t often represent a permanent problem in an online game that will continue developing over time. Inquisitor: Martyr is a fun horde killer with a fair amount of variety to boot; also with the promise of more races to come and live events, it’s a good investment for any 40k fan who wants some bang for their buck.

Our interviewee, Gergo Vas, has been working on Warhammer: 40,000 Inquisitor – Martyr, and has some thoughts on how the game will be different from others in this setting.

Raven:

“For my first question, it’s about the open world aspect. Now Warhammer: 40,000 Inquisitor is tagged as open world but I’ve heard that it’s not exactly open world but it’s similar to Diablo. Is that true?”

Gergo:

“So as you’ll see, there’s a huge sector (called Caligari sector) where you can jump in and out of star systems, and subsectors (zoom in zoom out etc). And besides doing the campaign you can roam around finding random missions, do tougher investigations, or find completely different points of interests. So it’s open world in that aspect you don’t have to follow the campaign if you don’t want to. It’s out there in the open world as well though.”

Raven:

“That’s good. I was a little worried some people made it seem like it was closer to Diablo in the sense of linear pathing (not the Reaper of Souls DLC).”

Gergo:

“We have an open world trailer that kinda goes into details about the system and the mechanics.”

The latest update for Warhammer 40,0000: Inquisitor - Martyr declares the game has been delayed until June 5th.

Martyr Release - Final Dates - A letter from our Producer

Dear All,

first of all, I’d like to skip the excuses, so let’s get straight to the point and start with the bad news.

We had to delay the release date of Warhammer 40,0000: Inquisitor – Martyr to 5 June (2018).

The reason is simple, really. Some technical issues were solved a bit late on one of the console platforms, therefore the release candidate version couldn’t be sent to manufacturing in time. We’d like to release the game - in agreement with our console publisher Bigben Interactive and our licensor Games Workshop - on all three platforms at the same time.

In a nutshell: we have somewhat overestimated our capacity for releasing the game simultaneously on three platforms.

And now that we’ve got the bad news out of the way, I’d like to tell you why this could be a good thing after all:

On one hand, the usual, but always very true statement: this means that the PC version gets three extra weeks of polishing, which is never a bad thing. This also means that the game will be in a much better shape at release.

On the other hand, now that we’ve messed up the big date of the original announcement anyway, we decided to still do one big Beta build update for Steam.

With the three extra weeks, we’ll now have the time to do this and trust me, all the harsh criticism, I mean the extra feedback will help us immensely to balance and fine-tune the game.

Therefore, the dates now set in stone:
  • Fresh Steam Build – 21 May
  • Release – 5th June

Again, sorry for this as we kindly ask for your further patience and hopefully it won’t be a deal breaker for any of you.

In return, we promise we’ll push this three weeks hard so it’ll be very-very useful for Martyr.

The full game is near: it will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on the same date (with boxed retail editions available for consoles) - and that exact date will be revealed very soon.

If anyone has been following me for the past few years here at Chalgyr’s Game Room you know how big of a fan I am of NeocoreGames. While I may have named Haemimont Games’ Victor Vran as King, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing are not far behind. The work that has gone into those titles both for launch and thereafter gave me high hopes for their delve into the Warhammer 40k universe. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr is currently in Alpha staged Early Access and while still fairly rough around the edges there’s a lot that can come out of it.

Martyr puts you into the role of an Inquisitor who starts off their hunt on a derelict ship before eventually giving you access to a much wider space to explore. This ship, and the five stages within, act as a tutorial to most of the game’s functions. I’m glad that I plowed through these five stages because they are currently empty and devoid of much other than the occasional enemy with little to no AI that walks towards you in order to be put down. They are seriously boring and even if you’re on your fourth character they have to be plowed through in order to move onto a lot more combat intensive stages which are loads more fun.

Unlike their previous entries, Martyr is mission based and constructed in stages instead of a world that can be run and teleported through. Furthermore, until the tutorial is completed the hub remains locked off in order to buy and sell equipment as well as try to find people to play online with if you tire of playing alone.

Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr has been released for Early Access on Steam yesterday. I also saw the game at Gamescom, with this article as a result.

Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr takes place in the 40K universe (8th edition) and focuses on the Inquisitors. It is an action-RPG, with a single player story line and a multiplayer component where you can do missions, either alone or together with others in co-op.
The game has been in public alpha from some months now as they really wanted to include the community in the development of this game. In their opinion the feedback they have receivedhas helped them a lot in creating the game and bringing it to where it is now.

Inquisitors are the most powerful agents in the Imperium and come from different backgrounds. There is a Crusader type of Inquisitor, who is kind of a tank. The Assassin Inquisitor is very swift and agile and also the only female and there is a Psyker inquisitor, who can use psychic powers, which is like a magic character. Each of these 3 classes have subclasses, but these are basically just starting builds that you can use. When you change your weapons, armor and skills you have already deviated from that selected subclass. With the large range of available weapons, armor and skills it is possible to create a large variety of different Inquisitors. At the start of the game the inquisitor is at a low level and basically looks like a crusader, inquisitor or Psyker, but as you progress and upgrade your armor and weapons you will look more and more like a bad-ass Inquisitor.

Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr is available on Steam Early Access now, with a discount of 10%. The EA release comes with a patch update bringing the game to version 0.6.0.

The game is now available on Steam via Early Access! We would like to thank everyone who supported us during the Founding - it was a very rewarding process. Without your feedback, we would be nowhere near the game's current state. With Early Access, we'd like to expand our audience in order to be able to gather feedback from a greater pool to ensure swift and steady development.

Acolytes!

In the last few weeks we were quieter than usual, as we were hard at work on a next update for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. It took a bit longer than expected... and we get that such a long wait between updates can be a bit frustrating. But don’t panic! A panicking Inquisitor looks very unprofessional.

For several reasons, we decided to merge the smaller patches and the bigger upcoming content update, which meant no smaller fixes were released.

The new content patch will change a large portion of the game, yet again (but this was expected), causing smaller and bigger problems (some of which are expected, others being trickier), and well... one thing leads to another, addressing one corruption reveals another treachery... you know the drill.

During the development of this update while adding more content, we decided to include more fixes and changes according to player feedback as well. There were many, and by looking into all the problems, the game slowly becomes more wholesome.

So, what’s next?

Currently, we’re reworking the Assassin class to introduce her properly into the game, this is our main priority. Also, we’re working on implementing more star systems and levels, slowly completing Tier 1, so we can have a solid foundation to move forward. These are the bigger changes, but there’s plenty more which we’ll include in the next changelog.

Rest assured that the quiet time this month was not wasted, and Inquisitor – Martyr again became bigger, it grew not only in size, but in depth as well.

We’d also like to confirm that the Roadmap will change because of the developments during this month, and we’re adjusting milestones accordingly. For now, this doesn’t affect most of the soft dates, as some things were brought forward, others are still under development... we just have to rearrange some things to make the Roadmap more up to date and accurate.

The good news is that after this tough milestone we can see the road ahead of us much better, and that your contributions and feedback proved to be very helpful during development. We’re trying to be very clear about what we’re working on, and hopefully this post clarifies things a bit.

We’re still on the right track towards our goal: delivering a huge and memorable Action-RPG with as much polish and content as possible at its release date.

As for the next update (including the new class, the Assassin), the wait is coming to an end soon.

We hope you’ll like it, but until then let us know if you have any more questions or additional feedback. Report all heretics and enjoy the purge!

In a monthly series of blogs, Neocore is providing more information about Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Marty. In this first blog the destructible environment of the game is covered.

The new 3D engine paired with updated physics produces a great variety of how different attacks affect the environment. The terrain and obstacles will bear permanent battle scars after an encounter, revealing underlying, damaged surfaces. Impacts have their own characteristics.

Kinetic weapons can tear chunks out of walls, floor panels, throwing rubble and dust in the air. Energy weapons leave glowing hot, molten pockmarks or simply vaporize whole sections. Hazardous objects like pressurised containers, military ordnance can explode upon impact, creating a physical blowback effect, crippling all creatures and objects caught in the blast.

Gamespot joins the ranks of those taking a look at Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr.

While Martyr is a traditional isometric action-RPG built from elements seen in Neocore's Van Helsing games, it will also sport alterations to the formula that focus on a more tactical approach.

"Unlike with Van Helsing, we downsized the number of enemies on-screen and introduced a cover system, which is a very new concept in action-RPGs," Juhász said. "It'll require you to consider tactics. Are you going to attack the cover because they're destructible? Are you going to move behind them to flank your enemies? Your enemies might even switch sides and hide behind other cover as well, so we have a new AI that will regulate the behavior of monsters, for instance, like an AI that acts as a leader for smaller groups."

But new mechanics aside, the game would fall flat if it wasn't faithful to its universe's lore and the audience of hardcore Warhammer fans who follow it. Thankfully, many of the devs at Neocore are 40K fans themselves and are collaborating with Warhammer IP owner Games Workshop to create an experience that will appeal to its different audiences.

GamingBolt have talked with lead narrative designer Viktor Juhász and producer Zoltán Pozsonyi about the story, post-launch content updates and other features of Warhammer: 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr, as spotted by our Eye.

What kind of plans do you have for the “continuous flow of content”? Will there be periodic updates and new areas added to Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr?

Viktor Juhász: Our main goal is to keep the Caligari Sector alive and kickin’ for years and we also want the players to experience what is it like to be a part of an ever changing living universe. We will continously give out free content patches for the game and we will also publish two large standalone expansions. We haven’t made up our minds about smaller payable DLCs yet. Free and continuous content will help to keep the Sector alive.

One of the best things about the Inquisitorial Campaign is that it’s open-ended. We have many different ideas about how to further expand this vast territory with new planet types and enemies and of course we’re eager to hear what our fans want. During the development of the Van Helsing trilogy we built a very special relationship with our players, and their feedback was very important for us. We want to do the same with Inquisitor – Martyr, and ask them what they want to see in the game.

Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - About DX12 and Consoles

Neocore Game is developing their Warhammer RPG, using DX12, which allows them to make the game look better on Xbox One according to Gamingbolt.

“Direct X 12 is not something that allows you to play around with new shiny effects during the development. It’s more of a big, structural development that gives the programmers a lot more opportunity by providing them easier access directly to the GPU,” Producer, Zoltán Pozsonyi explained to GamingBolt. “This means that they’ll have a lot more wiggle room for performance optimization and making the code run faster; if you’re able to squeeze out higher performance out of the GPU, that can be translated into framerate or more beautiful content in the game. DX12 supports asynchtonous compute shaders, which for example allows you to use more and better quality special effects and post process stuff, a lot faster (screen space ambient occlusion, screen space reflection, better quality shadow mapping, transculency, tone mapping).”

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr will be heading to the PS4 and Xbox One alongside PC and Mac when it launches next year. What kind of challenges did the development team faced while developing for consoles and what prompted the decision to go beyond the PC for this release?

“Consoles have always been on our radar, as you might have heard The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy is also coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4,” Lead Narrative Designer, Viktor Juhász states. “The new console generation’s architecture is very similar to the PCs and the machines are also powerful enough, so our biggest challenge is to make the controls feel just as intuitive with controllers, as it is with a keyboard and mouse setup.
In both the PC and console versions we wanted to find the balance between being faithful to the lore and to the requirements of a great ARPG. We had to overcome some serious technological challenges when we decided to revamp the engine. We still have a long way to go, like the creation of the persistent open world.”

Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Preview @ PC Gamer

Warhammer 40,000 ought to be a great setting for a bloody, old-fashioned top-down action RPG. The universe is full of power-armoured individuals cutting swathes through enemies with mad weapons. Chief among these heroes are the Inquisitors: part crazed fanatic, part internal affairs agent, they find corruption everywhere and burn it with flamethrowers. They're judge, jury and executioner in one giant metal suit, with guns that can melt buildings. 

Fresh from completing the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy, Neocore reckons it can nail the fantasy with Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr. The focus is on weighty, thoughtful fights with clusters of smart enemies. You can blast them from afar with a bolter or rend them with a chainsword at handshake distance while your foes—mostly Chaos heretics so far—work together to avoid a gory death. "They are going to have AI, which means that they are going to have leaders, they are going to send out alerts" says lead writer Viktor Juhasz.

The metagame will be irrelevant if Martyr's core combat isn't up to standard, and it faces some serious competition from Diablo 3. However, it's good to see the game pursuing its own style and pace, which carries right through to boss fights. At the end of the video the Inquisitor fights a towering demon of Nurgle. Large monsters have locational damage systems, which the Inquisitor exploits to blow both of its arms off before putting it out of its misery. It's gory, tactical, and suitably over-the-top. If the combat becomes stompy and satisfying enough, this could be a neat addition to the ever-growing roster of Warhammer games. It's due out next year.

With a very long game title, Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr, Neocore announced before Gamescom that they would bring us an action-RPG in the Warhammer 40K universe, with a playable part of the game to show for it. So, I visited them at Gamescom, played the game and listened to what they had to say, resulting in amongst others:

Inquisitor has two game modes, a story mode that is narratively driven and single player only and the inquisitorial campaign, an open world sandbox persistent mode, in which you have your own ship and all the freedom you to do what you want to do, but actually also has its own storyline based on the decisions of individual players.

The missions in the inquisitorial campaign are randomly generated, so you never get to see the same mission twice. There is just one sector, which has sub-sectors, but a sector in Warhammer 40K has hundreds of star systems and thousands of planets, so it is big enough to potentially last for a long time. These sub-sectors will gradually be made available to the players over time. The levels of your opponents in these sub-sectors do not progress in relation to your level, so at the start of a new sub-sector many of the enemies will be too strong for you and you need to level up first in order to progress into that new sub-sector. In the inquisitorial campaign you are given an Inquisitor fortress, a safe haven, where you can store your loot. It gives you resources and it also has your followers that you can level up over time. There can also be other people playing the game, but there is no direct PvP action between inquisitors. Instead you can attack each other's fortresses. The winning party can take the loot from the losing party.

[...] For the first time ever, in the history of the Warhammer 40k gaming franchise, Neocore Games is attempting to create a game that has never been done before. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is designed to be an Action RPG much in the style of their Van Helsing games. Another great example of an Action RPG would be Blizzard’s Diablo III.

Now unlike other Action RPG’s this one will have a cover system, not just for the hero, but the AI can use it as well. In fact if you take cover, the AI will respond and take cover as well. Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is taking not only the rules of this genre, but the rules of 40k, and incorporating the lore, to make something truly special and unique. Also Neocore Games has promised that it won’t be just a wave of hordes of enemies coming at you that you would find in a Diablo game. The game is designed to be very strategic, tactical, and the enemies, as well as the hero, are very powerful. I’m sure at some point, it might be possible to find a mission or two with a horde aspect, but this is not what the core game is going to be about.

The player will assume the role of an Inquisitor. There will be 3 classes, 1 will be a female class, and the other 2 will be male classes. A Crusader Tank style class has been confirmed, the other two have not. However, while going through the Pre-Alpha screenshots I noticed one of the Inquisitor’s was named Reborn Marauder. This very well could be a DPS class. At this moment though, it is only purely speculation.

There will be a wide arrange of weaponry from the Warhammer 40k franchise. I did watch the Gamescon 2015 footage, and in that footage they showed us a power sword, a bolter, a plasma gun heavy weapon, and talked about a chainsword in great detail. I imagine there will be several additional weapons, but it was nice to see early game play footage and a variety of weapons. It looked really good for a Pre-Alpha state. Neocore Games have announced that they are in development of Warhammer 40.000: Inquisitor - Martyr, labeled as an action RPG.

Here is the press blurb:

Warhammer 40.000 : Inquisitor – Martyr will portray the secret war of the Inquisition against the taint of Chaos . The presentation will feature one of the available classes fighting his way through a haunted, Gothic cathedral of a space - faring, colossal monastery - ship, infested by mutants and heretics of Nurgle , one of the terrible Gods of Chaos. This Inquisitor belongs to the Crusader class, the perfect candidate to illustrate how our game adds some extra flavor the to the familiar ARPG elements with the new additions: the cover - based combat, enemies with attackable body parts and the so - called battle drugs that will replace the usual potions.

The single player campaign pitches players into a grim and secret war among the stars as the agents of the ever - vigilant Inquisition . After the end of the campaign the story ties into a colossal sandbox game : set in a persistent setting, a secluded sector in this vast universe, it grants years of constant entertainment, gradual development and a continuous flow of content that enriches the gameplay.

IGN has a quote from Neocore's producer Zoltán Pozsonyi:

“There’s a reason why we chose the world of Warhammer 40,000: it’s intense, brutal, visceral – a perfect material for an action RPG. Working with Games Workshop, we’re doing our best to bring a high quality game to the community. We’re huge fans as well, so we care deeply about this game.”

It will be released on PC, MAc, Xbox One and PS4 in 2016.
