Dungeon Guardians - Enhanced Edition

by Silver, Tuesday - August 15, 2017 11:25

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians enhanced edition has now been released.

Enhanced Edition !

The version 1.0i has just been released, and this is another important update that brings new features and polishing to the game.

This is the 8th big update since the initial release of the game on Steam, back in November 2015, and hopefully you'll agree that all these updates combined deserve the title of "Enhanced Edition" !

Before seeing a recap of all the improvements done, let's focus on the version 1.0i

So its main additions are :

- a better streamlined party creation with more info where it's needed
- a macro system to save & restore your team members' ability queue
- smoother rendering if you play with a refresh rate higher than 60hz
- new Toggle Selection icon that should make its use clearer when discovering the game

Full changelog can be seen here, as usually : http://steamcommunity.com/app/409450/discussions/0/490123727974362306/?ctp=8#c1457328392103001810

Dungeon Guardians - Version 1.0b Released

by Aubrielle, Monday - January 18, 2016 02:01

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians got its 1.0b release on the 11th.

Thanks, Couch.

I finally found the time & energy to implement the Treasure Hunt within the game !
This is a chained series of riddles, more or less easy, designed mostly to test your memory and your observation skill.
This hunt will bring you a new extra non-combat item, as well as alternate weapons (eg: 2H tank weapon).
Its starting point is in the High Security zone of the prison at the beginning of the game.
Note: it's possible to do it after have reached the last level of the game, but it might be delicate to remember everything needed to solve all the riddles.

There are also other little new GUI features, and small changes & bug fixes.
You can read the details of all updates here : http://steamcommunity.com/app/409450/discussions/0/490123727974362306/ .

Dungeon Guardians - Store Update

by Myrthos, Tuesday - December 08, 2015 17:12

The latest update for The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians brings us news on store update. The Humble Bundle store now holds a release of the game and can be bought there. The same applies to the Mac store. If you however want to see the game on GOG, then they invite you to vote for it here.

Thanks Eye.

Dungeon Guardians - Modding SDK

by Myrthos, Wednesday - December 02, 2015 12:55

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians site gives some more information on the status of the modding SDK.

Last week went smoothly.

I still did a little bunch of bug fixes, but they were mostly for very special cases.

So I had time to finally work on a new important feature : the Modding SDK, including multi-mod & incremental mod support for the game !

You can find the SDK here.

It even comes with 2 small Mods : 1 to replace the spiders by skeletons, for players with arachnophobia  ; and 1 with all the built-in portraits of the game, to change them or add new ones.

Except that, I got the answer from GOG : they said it looked like a good & interesting game, but were afraid it was too much of a niche game for their store (translation : it didn’t sell enough on Steam). :(

Actually, sales on Steam are not too bad and I’m relatively confident we’ll get to the point where the game will be worth the money and time invested in it.

Now, only the Steam Workshop support is missing. I hope to able to do it all this week, although I don’t have much idea of the amount of work it represents : it’s going to be a surprise..! :-p

I also should be able to publish the game on the Mac AppStore.

After that, I’m not sure where it’ll go. I still want to add the Scavenger Hunt to the game, so maybe I’ll finally do it… Or maybe take intensive holidays… Or maybe start to fiddle with my next game (ie: Tennis Elbow Manager 2, a tennis management game)… Or write documentation for the Level Editor and Modding the game…

Thanks Eye.

Dungeon Guardians - Review @ IGR

by Hiddenx, Friday - November 27, 2015 00:08

IGR has reviewed The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians:

The Fall of the Dungeons Guardians – What We Think:

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians is French dev team Mana Games‘ answer to a question we’re not sure anyone was asking: “What would happen if you crammed MMORPG-style combat into an old school first-person dungeon crawler?” While hardcore RPG fans the world over decry the simplified triad of tank/healer/damage-dealer so ubiquitous in World of Warcraft and its ilk, it actually works here, making for a challenging, combat-oriented new take on a classic style.

First person, party-based dungeon crawlers in the vein of Dungeon Master and the early Might and Magic games have come back in the spotlight in recent years, thanks mostly to the brilliant Legend of Grimrock series, with its fiendish puzzles and deadly traps. The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians draws on similar inspiration – the dungeon walls themselves could be mistaken for one another – but is much more of a slog.

[...]

Minor complaints, aesthetic and otherwise, aside, The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians is a monster of a game. It’s tough, it looks good, and it’s full of classic touches. It’s also huge. Each level will take hours to complete on all but the easiest difficulty level, and there are well over a dozen levels. That’s a meaty meal to fill the heartiest of dungeon crawlers’ appetites. Add in a map editor that lets you build your own twisted tunnels, and you’ve got more skeleton-bashing, spider-squashing fun than you could handle.

Score: 4/5

A modding SDK has been released as well:

Modding SDK

Hello,
you can download the Modding SDK from here :
www.managames.com/download.php?DungeonGuardians-ModdingSDK.zip

Unzip it anywhere on your PC, and read "ModdingSDK\HowToMod.html" for instructions.

The SDK comes with :
  • "NoSpiders" Mod, which changes all Spiders into Skeletons
  • "MyPortraits" Mod, which contains all the built-in Portraits, so you can change them or add new ones
Check the file "Mods\HowToInstall.txt" for installation instructions.

You may want to have a look at the Translation Kit if you want to change the dialogs or interface text : http://steamcommunity.com/app/409450/discussions/2/492378806378223762/ .

This SDK gives you access to a lot of text files used to configure everything in the game (abilities, talents, mobs, items, etc...), and most of the GUI textures, plus instructions to add your own Sound FX and a few other things.

At this point, it's not possible to add 3D models nor change their textures.

Dungeon Guardians - After Release Update

by Myrthos, Thursday - November 12, 2015 14:34

After the release of The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, the developer comes with this update:

fffffff… (for the last time ?)

If you follow this blog, you know that normally I publish the weekly update on Sunday or Monday.

Today is Wednesday. That says it all, no ?

No ? Ok, so let me explain..!

Last Friday I released The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians on Steam.

Naively, like I always am, I thought it’d be a bit rough, with a few little bugs & fixes to do here and there, but it’d settle within 24 hours.

How wrong I was ! It took me almost 4 days to fight bugs and integrate in emergency popular requested features into the game, so everybody could enjoy the adventure nicely.

I think with the last update of this morning, it should be (nearly) ok. And I will be able to finally get some rest, before doing a bit more bug hunting (text input doesn’t work on Linux coz of an Unity3D engine bug  ), and then switch to Modding support (SDK + Steam Workshops) and getting the game published in other Stores (GOG, Humble Store, Mac AppStore).

In term of sales, the game did an ok start, but nothing fancy, I’m still not on my way to buy a Porsche (or more important, finance a more ambitious sequel). But within 6 months or 1 year, I may be able to get my investment in money and time paid back.

Hopefully, it’ll catch on with Christmas season, with the help of the additional stores and maybe a bit of marketing (if I get some ideas or get lucky :) ).

That’s all for now, cya soon for the next weekly update !

Thanks Eye.

Dungeon Guardians - Review @ Defunct Games

by Hiddenx, Monday - November 09, 2015 20:07

Defunct Games has reviewed The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians:

[...]
I suspect that this style of grid-based role-playing game will always be fraught with problems, no matter how advanced the graphics get. But even with a few lingering issues, I was completely won over by The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians. By addressing most of the shortcomings found in old school 3D dungeon crawlers, Mana Games has created an addictive adventure game worth exploring.

Score: B+

Dungeon Guardians - Released on Steam

by Hiddenx, Friday - November 06, 2015 20:43

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians has been released on Steam with a 10% launch discount until November 13.

You can find some early impressions in this thread.

Dungeon Guardians - Rogue done

by Hiddenx, Sunday - November 01, 2015 14:13

The dungeon crawler The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians is now complete:

48th Weekly Update : Rogue Done!

Pffffffff (again), I finished the Rogue and I’m glad I did because I’m near implosion!

The week has been ok without too much bumps (except in my neighbourhood, but that’s another story, hum, stories actually, which include birds, dogs, bugs & dead mouse amongst other annoying things), so I managed to do the 2 final specializations of the game : the Duelist, a Rogue tank spec, and the Ranger, the only spec able to use bows & crossbows in the game.

For the Ranger, I cheated a bit…   I didn’t do anything too special for him (except the bow/crossbow) so he’s kind of a patchwork between several other specs. But except if you do plenty of runs with many different parties, you will likely never notice that… :)

Anyway, the game is now fully done ! It just needs to be proofread by an English native speaker, as well as to get the French translation (I’ll get to it) and the German translation, and then I’ll need to build all the different versions correctly (Windows / OSX / Linux) and it’ll be all set to be released for next Friday on Steam, yippee  ! :)

Cya soon for more news !
