Edge Of Eternity - Review @ Thumbculture

by Hiddenx, Wednesday - February 23, 2022 19:27

Thumbculture checked out Edge of Eternity:

Edge Of Eternity Review

Developed by Midgar Studio and published by Dear Villagers. Edge of Eternity is an action RPG that was released on the PC back in 2021. Then later ported to the Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, Series S/X and another port coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. So lets dive into the Edge of Eternity.

There isn't a year that goes by without a quote saying "Is this the new Final Fantasy?" Now with a game franchise like Final Fantasy, it would have to take one hell of a video game to get close to it. But that doesn't stop developers from making excellent RPGs.

If you enjoyed this review then why not check out my latest one here. You can also catch up with what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to via our social media channels.

Final Thought

My final thought on Edge of Eternity is that after a rocky start, the game is fantastic and one that every RPG player owes to themselves to play. The story is great, the characters are witty, funny, and you make a connection with them. I can't wait to get stuck back in and find the cure for Corrosion.

Don’t let the graphics put you off from a great game. No wonder the developers have been named as the French Final Fantasy makers. I, therefore, give Edge of Eternity the Thumb Culture Gold Award.

Edge Of Eternity - Review @ Gamespace

by Hiddenx, Tuesday - August 10, 2021 18:39

Gamespace has reviewed Edge of Eternity:

Edge of Eternity PC Review

Turn-based role-playing games are where I learned to love this particular genre. It started way back with Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy and continues even now. While this type of title has changed from then until now, Midgar Studio decided to take its shot by going in a similar but different direction in Edge of Eternity. This title holds up well against other similar titles and here is what I think about it.

[...]

Summary

The overall feel of the game is great and I would recommend it to any fan of the RPG genre. Some things seemed out of place for the type of RPGs I like to play but each person has their own preferences. Midgar Studio did a fantastic job of putting this title together and it is currently available on steam for 29.99 USD and the Digital Deluxe version is also available on sale at the moment.

Score: 9/10

Edge Of Eternity - Review @ PC Invasion

by Hiddenx, Thursday - June 10, 2021 18:26

PC Invasion has reviewed Edge of Eternity:

Edge of Eternity review — I’m on the edge of glory

Edge of Eternity is an RPG from developer Midgar Studio and publisher Dear Villagers. After being part of Steam’s Early Access program for a couple of years, it’s finally ready to launch. Previously, the game only had six chapters during the Early Access period. Now, the release build completes the story, boosting your adventure to eight chapters.

What follows is a long and arduous journey for your characters. There are a few highs and also some lows. It also bears mentioning that Midgar Studio is only comprised of 10 developers. As such, an indie RPG of this magnitude is bound to be a little rough around the edges.

[...]

An RPG that mixes fantasy and sci-fi themes. It's set in a world threatened by an invading armada and a destructive plague.

Ambitious in size, scale, and scope, Edge of Eternity offers a somewhat enjoyable romp that could last you over 40 hours. Sadly, it's also very rough around the edges, and poor pacing can be detrimental to your experience.

Score: 7.5/10

Edge Of Eternity - Anniversary Video

by Silver, Friday - January 15, 2021 20:54

A video to celebrate two years of Early Access for Edge of Eternity.

Two years of Early Access

December 5th marked a new anniversary of our early access: it has now been 2 years since we launched our first chapter in 2018. The game has seen an impressive evolution since then with 3 chapters in its first year, and 3 more this year.

However, the content was not the only axis of improvement this year, indeed this year was also illustrated by the passage of the game to the beta phase! We have also started to anticipate the final release of the game with features like the Modifiers that arrived with Chapter VI.

We still have work to do for 2021 but nothing is impossible. For the coming year we have a chapter much bigger than any currently available, as well as the final release!

Today this phase of Early Access is useful as it allows us to have your feedback to create thanks to you a JRPG that will be remembered! We also took the opportunity to give you our own feedback through a video presented by three members of our team:

[...]

Coming in 2021

If we plan the final release of the game for Spring 2021 we still have a lot of work, including the upcoming chapter, the final boss, but also other optimizations to allow you to run the game to its full potential. However, we can already tell you that DLSS will arrive in a few weeks!

Intermediate Chapter

Announced in September, the Chapter "0.5" is coming very soon to allow you to explore the Open World within the first hour of play! You can already test it out by enabling the "Chapter 0.5" option on Experimental Features but as it's experimental some features might not work [TEST AT YOUR OWN RISK], don't hesitate to join our Discord for support if you are stuck!

Edge Of Eternity - 2020 Roadmap

by Hiddenx, Monday - December 09, 2019 19:17

Here's the roadmap for Edge of Eternity:

Edge Of Eternity roadmap for 2020! Coming with a 25% off sale!
Discover what's coming in 2020 for Edge Of Eternity!

The past weeks have been quite productive for us. In November we released the Chapter IV, that was our most ambitious chapter so far and last week we celebrated the Early Access anniversary.

As promised, we now want to share with you our plans for the upcoming months. As we did for the Early Access launch, we’d like to share a small visual impression of our journey: [...]

As you can see, with Chapter IV we made it to the halfway point of the Early Access!
At Midgar Studio, the team really feels that Edge Of Eternity has stepped up recently with this release. The game has now 25 hours of solid content. If you were hesitating we are pretty confident to say that now is a good time to join us in Heryon! ;)

And there’s even more to come. Let’s have a look at the next steps:

Chapter 0 : January 2020

This update will be quite unique. It will not provide you with the continuation of Daryon’s adventure as you are used to with every chapter so far. This update will focus on reworking the early hours of the game.
For newcomers, it will mean a brand new tutorial & new introduction to the game. For current players we strongly recommend to start another save for a bit for you to know about Daryon’s past (and come back later to your current save). This part will offer a quite interesting (as we hope) narrative introduction to the game.

Chapter 5 : March 2020

We’ll be back on the main story line and introduce you to a new character. You will also be invited to venture into a new dungeon.
This update will also invite you to return to previously visited locations that will offer many new quests and an increased difficulty level.

Chapter 6 : June 2020

Daryon’s fellowship will continue its adventure in new Desert and Volcano areas. Along with a new turn of events in the main story, this update will focus on special personal quests for the main characters. A way to find out about their backstories and motivations in this very damaged world.

And with Chapter VI we should be able to release our most anticipated “Nekaroo Farm” !

Chapter 7 : September 2020

Late 2020 / game release
The release of the game will come with a final massive update.

As you can see we have still a lot to come. It will be a long a very productive year and we are all committed to release the full game before the end of next year.
We have many surprises to come. Things we’ve been working on for a while as well as fresh new additions we want to make to the game based on your feedbacks.

Keep on telling us what you like or dislike in Edge of Eternity. It’s a real fuel for making the game and we cannot value more the players message we receive.
And again we would like to thank you all for the incredible benevolence you have towards us.

Don't forget that the game is also on sale with 25% off until next week (December 16th) if you don't have the game yet :) Thanks for reading & see you soon in Heryon!

Edge Of Eternity - Preview & Screenshots

by Silver, Wednesday - September 11, 2019 21:51

Edge of Eternity has been previewed by Wccftech. There are also screenshots of Chapter 4 on Steam.

Battles are turn-based, with your usual variety of melee attacks, abilities, and spells, but also had a dynamic which asked you to think about your positioning. You can change the place your characters are in on the battlefield into one of six neighboring positions, to avoid getting flanked on both sides, or to move closer to an enemy so a melee attack will actually work. While it wasn’t necessary to think too much about it in the demo, its uses in more difficult battles are obvious, and adds a new mechanic to the JRPG formula, instead of just innovating on tropes.

Later in the demo I trudged through caves and defeated dozens of monsters, before finally meeting a final boss and, sadly, not being able to overcome them. It just so happened that a PR rep was telling me I was running out of time anyway, but that didn’t help how salty I felt putting that controller down in defeat.

17th July 2019, Montpellier, France, Developer Midgard Studio and publisher Dear Villagers today announced the third free major update to their ambitious Early Access JRPG Edge of Eternity, which is currently available on Steam Early Access. The story continues with The Reunion, secrets revealed, a shocking betrayal and a noble sacrifice in chapter 3 of the Edge of Eternity saga.

Edge Of Eternity - Preview @InvisionCommunity

by Silver, Sunday - February 24, 2019 21:02

JRPG Edge of Eternity has been previewed by InvisionCommunity.

The in-game user interface currently is fairly basic but easy to understand. The development team has mapped out some plans for this to be improved upon and the upgrade system used in the game seems to be fairly straightforward and easy enough to understand. Players will make use of gems and gem shards which are slotted into a skill tree of sorts and this unlocks new abilities or stat boost. Additionally, new equipment can also be obtained and equipped as is the standard for any self-respecting RPG. Players can also harvest resources from the world itself by gathering from trees or mining rocky outcrops.

The voice acting in Edge of Eternity is surprisingly pretty good and both Daryon and Selene seem believable in their conversations. This combined with a great soundtrack is good news for the game since its exceptionally good music will definitely keep players happy throughout the story – Much like how Final Fantasy titles are known for their great soundtracks.

Edge Of Eternity - Preview @ IGC

by Hiddenx, Sunday - January 27, 2019 07:35

Invision Game Community has checked out Edge Of Eternity:

Edge of Eternity Preview

Some of you may remember a video game trailer that went viral a couple of years ago for being made by a team of 4 people. The trailer teased a Final Fantasy-esque RPG game and eventually, the end product it showcased, Edge of Eternity, found itself on Kickstarter seeking funding. Fast forward to 2018 and the game has since been backed by 4045 people and an Early Access version has made its way to Steam.

loading...

Created by Midgar Studios, a team of the original 4 creators and 5 others, Edge of Eternity tells the tale of Daryon and Selene as they quest to find a cure for an illness that’s plaguing their land. The game is set in the fictional world of Heryon with humanity being subdued by an affliction known as the Corrosion and mysterious entities are known as the Archelites ruling over the world.

Edge of Eternity is still in the Alpha stage of development and is in Early Access on Steam right now. This means that those that choose to purchase and play it will be inundated with updates over time. The game also features a “report bug” feature available via its pause menu so players will be able to provide valuable feedback to the development team to fix as time goes on. In the time we’ve played the game, there’s already been a range of notable bug fixes on an almost daily basis such as fixing some audio and camera issues etc.

So far Edge of Eternity is shaping up to be a great indie RPG and we can’t wait to see what improvements and final touches are brought to the game over time. It has the potential to be a seriously good RPG and the development team is committed to making it succeed which is always a plus. Keep your eye on this game. It’s going to be great.

Edge Of Eternity - Updates

by Silver, Wednesday - January 23, 2019 20:25

Some updates for Edge of Eternity. The first focuses on the Technobandits and the other introduces a developer and shows off some screenshots.

Technobandits -Learn more about the lore!

Experienced travellers will tell you to avoid the Technobandits who roam the lands, for the weapons they use are both dangerous and explosive. But who are they really? Criminals or victims of the war?
It’s time for a bit of lore!

TECHNOBANDITS

Technobandits are enemies that can be found in the Inn and the plains of Herelsor.

Technobandits groups are usually formed by deserters, orphans, or excentrics that band together to survive the hard times. To defend themselves, they will search old battlefields and archelites crash sites to find technological weapons that have been banned by the Consortium. They are well aware that this technology may be the cause of the Corrosion ravaging Heryon, but what choice do they have?

Technobandits usually just want to be left alone in peace, but they still have to steal, rob and raid to survive. They often live in abandoned or hidden places, such as old battlefield sites or deserted mines. The Consortium and the Astryan Guards are actively hunting them, with the threat of a death sentence.

Technobandits are not inherently “bad”, but rather hot-blooded and rude individuals, due to their condition and the damages of the war.

Abilities:

*Explosion, a walking mine that will exploded on a nexus

Edge Of Eternity - The Gurrn

by Hiddenx, Sunday - January 13, 2019 09:20

The Gurrn are an enemy class in Edge Of Eternity. This RPG is available as Early Access version since December:

Gurrn - Learn more about the lore!

Is that a rock? Is that a crystal? No, it’s a Gurrn! Protecting the magical gemstones, those sentient rocks are quite the mystery. But where do they come from? It’s time for a bit of lore!

Gurrn are enemies that can be found in the Old Mine, and in the ruins on the plains of Herelsor.

Gurrn are rocks that became alive thanks to an eternity of existence near crystals. The magic contained within those gems gave them life. In return, Gurrns possess a sense of belonging to crystals, that they consider akin to them. Gurrn carry a crystal on their back, and everything resembling a crystal is considered a part of the family, even if it’s not sentient. They will defend them with their life.

As a result, Gurrn will protect crystals as members of their clan. This often lead to attacks towards humans in the mines. In retaliation, human will try to drive them away. In small mines, a handful of villagers is no match to a Gurrn. In bigger exploitation, soldiers will manage to kick them out.

Edge Of Eternity - What's the plan?

by Silver, Wednesday - November 28, 2018 02:02

An update for Edge of Eternity that elaborates on the plan going forward.

Now that the release of the Early Access is just around the corner, we are getting closer to what will be the actual state of the release on December 5th.

Since we want this Early Access to be a joint effort between you, the players, and us, the developers, we need to be totally upfront with what will be in that version.

While we *obviously* want to avoid spoilers, at the very end of the update, there is a list showing what content will be in this version of the game and what’s coming in future updates. If you want to keep your mind free of any possible hints and light spoilers we would recommend to stop reading after the spoiler warning.

What to expect :

- An indie game made by a handful of people.
We started this project as a 4-people team and raised our numbers up to 9 only recently. Though we are definitely not a triple A team, we nevertheless believe that the work done so far and its results are quite an achievement. It will not be the perfect, polished experience that a triple A studio can dish out on a regular basis, but it will sure be a product of love and dedication.

- Bugs
Some of them funny, some of them infuriating. The debugging process will continue to take place as the Early Access progresses. We will be hunting down the ones that may affect game progression in priority, but we can’t guarantee your playthrough will be bug-free. If bugs happen please share them with us on the Community Hub. You can also take captures to turn them into funny memes (if they’re funny in the first place). Either way, we’re sorry in advance. Be assured we will be working hard to solve every issue you will encounter.

- An imperfect user interface
Improving the UI is one of our top priorities. When the Early Access will start, the UI will still have to go through several improvements, both in combat and in the menus. You can expect these changes to happen during the several stages of the Early Access, and again your feedback will be highly valuable to us.

- Things that need improvements!
That’s what this Early Access is for. Whether they are to improve the user experience, or about adding raw new content, we will be listening! From the global user experience to small content details, Edge of Eternity is still a work in progress. Again, we believe that’s what this Early Access is for and we count on our early users to help us create the game you expect.

- Update Schedule
We have a series of updates planned and we want you to know precisely where the project is going. We will alternate huge updates, once every three or four months, which will massively expand the game, and, in-between, minor updates including hotfixes and smaller content additions.

                                                    -------- SPOILER WARNING ----------

Edge Of Eternity - Early Access December 5th

by Myrthos, Friday - November 09, 2018 16:01

The Early Access of Edge of Eternity is delayed with a week to December 5th, according to the information we received:

Previously planned for launch on 29th November, the team at Midgar Studio have shifted the date back a week to allow them time to add final polish before the Early Access launch.

The Steam page says the following:

Not much time left before the Early Access. Our hearts are pounding with excitement - with a few ectopic beat here and there - at the perspective of the release.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a few moments to go back in time. Let us drop that controller down, take a hot cup of cocoa... and reminisce.

It was February, 15th 2015. That day, we launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise additional funds for Edge of Eternity - the feedback and participation of our 4,045 backers was nothing short of amazing.

We were already determined to make Edge of Eternity awesome, but the Kickstarter community kicked up our ambitions even higher. This wasn't just "a J-RPG made by a few fans of the genre" anymore: thanks to the resonating success of this crowdfunding, it became something greater.

It was a love letter to the genre, yes, but also much more. It was not just "our" project anymore, it became something... else, something bigger than what we envisioned. The funds were a big help, of course, but the support we got, the kind words, the remarks, and the interest were what pushed us forward the most.

So we began working on it, iterating, improving the game, the gameplay, the story...

And...

The characters,

And pretty much everything.

When we look back at it, the amount of work accomplished is daunting. If we had been confronted with the final product several years back, we don't know if (and how) we could’ve pull it off.

But this is not about patting ourselves on the back: we're not there yet. And there is still a lot of work to do. It's been almost four years since the Kickstarter, and now we will begin the Early Access period. We are confident that, with the help of the community, we will be able to improve the game to new heights - more than we did during these past years.

It will be a new stage of development, one that will be made hand-in-hand with the players - and this is probably what we're looking forward the most.

On more down-to-earth news, we must also announce that we are postponing the Early Access date to December the 5th. We are going through the last stretch of polishing and want to insure that the game - even though it is still in EA - will be as enjoyable as it can be.

Edge Of Eternity - Whispering in your ears

by Silver, Wednesday - October 10, 2018 05:11

An update for Edge of Eternity introduces the voice actors.

You probably heard them in the trailer - and their presence has remained a secret for a very long time. Lets introduce you to our voice-over actors!

We will unveil new members of the cast regularly but for now, let's introduce the ones you will "meet" in the beginning of the game.

Please meet:

Daryon - MICAH SOLUSOD

Micah is what we can call a seasoned veteran - he has taken part in over a 100 anime and video game titles including: Soul Eater, My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Super, Code Geass, Tokyo Ghoul and Borderlands, just to name a few.

He was chosen to play Daryon because:

He could deliver a whole range of emotion while still being true to Daryon's character. ... No, actually, the real reason was that when he saw the script, he immediately understood who Daryon really was - and made him into a fully-fledged, flawed-yet-likeable hero with but a flew voice inflexions. A pro, we're telling you.

Selene - ARYN ROZELLE

Aryn is an accomplished voice and movie actor. During her ever-growing filmography, she has developed an extensive voice register. She does her own stunts and loves to stream on Twitch! She plays many games including Overwatch, Tomb Raider, and various visual novels.

Was chosen because: She could deliver Selene's unique "iron fist in a velvet glove" brand. ... And also because she could flawlessly deliver "that" part - *that* spoilery part we can't divulge here. There were shivers involved.

Myrna - DENEEN MELODY

A true renaissance woman in the acting department - she can voice, she can dance, she can become whoever she wants in but a twinkle of the eye.

You can hear her voice in Shadowverse and see her many performances in quite frightening micro-budget horror films. Was chosen because: She could make you despair and hope, with but a few words uttered in the same breath. She's that good.

Khalder - JOE CHENEY

Joe is the greenest of them all, but don't let his young age fool you. He has the burliest voice around and can probably blow down your house. He has previously worked for Autumn Leaves, a Fallout: New Vegas mod - as well as Healer's Quest.

He was chosen because:

His voice is so impressive, well we couldn't take the risk of, like, angering him, you know.

So yeah, now it's time for us to put the lid back on the kettle and let it slowly cook until... Well until the 29th November!

We will keep you updated until that moment, so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can follow us on the usual:

The Clock is ticking towards the 29th November!

RPGWatch @ gamescom - Edge of Eternity Preview

by Myrthos, Friday - September 07, 2018 12:06

On the last day of our Gamescom articles we have Edge of Eternity, which was Kickstarted a while ago, so it was time to check it out.

Edge of Eternity is an open-world game, with a size of 256 square kilometers. The game will go to Early Access and at that stage the main quest will be about 20 hours. The side quests will add to that. For the final game the target is to have about 50 hours for the main quest and a similar amount for the side quests. The game is released by means of chapters. In Early Access the first chapter is released. The idea is to have a total of 12 chapters, where every two months or so, another chapter is to be released. Certain areas on the map will be locked when the chapters for those areas are not available yet. The story however, will be written in such a way that each chapter will have some sort of conclusion. That story will not be substantially influenced by your decisions in the game. There will be only minor deviations possible based on your decisions, especially in the side quests, but your decisions might change the game world. If, for example, a village is attacked and you don't help them, the village might be destroyed. This will mean that in your game that village no longer exists, but in another game that village might still exist because that player decided to help them. Events like these are conditional and are based on your actions in the world. This will occur only with side quests and not with the main story quests.

Edge Of Eternity - Early Access November 29th

by Silver, Wednesday - August 22, 2018 10:32

A new update for Edge of Eternity and Steam Early Access announced for November 29th.

Along with our publisher Playdius, we will officially announce to the press tomorrow that Edge of Eternity will be live on November 29, 2018.

We just release a brand new announcement teaser:

loading...

Why Early Access ?

Since its Kickstarter, Edge of Eternity underwent through a lot of changes. As the scope of the project widened, also did our needs. As a result, we have hired a few more talented hands to help us deliver the project we envisioned. Edge of Eternity became even grander.

One notorious example of this is the Voice Acting : it wasn't our intention to dub the game at first, but as the storyline unfolded, we began eyeing each others like "wouldn't this scene be far more epic if it was voiced ?" - "Yes, it would." So we began expanding on that field, for outstanding results we can't wait to share with you.

As we conduct the remaining of our development within the boundaries we've set, we are still tempted to expand some additional features that would greatly overhaul the whole experience. Opening the game now to Early Access would help us unlock enough budget to add an additional layer of polish into the game, and insure it will be the best game we can possibly deliver.

Also having players giving us actual feedback about the game would help us immensely in nudging the game in the right direction. There is a certain amount of fine-tuning that heavily depends on individual feedbacks, and we feel that inviting the players into it is a desirable direction. The other reason why we are looking forward to collaborate with our community is the modding. We intend to make Edge of Eternity fully customizable and allow the players to plunge their hands right into it and experiment their own things. For that matter we intend to release a Modkit for Edge of Eternity in the next months for players to tinker with it.

This Modkit will need - just like the rest of the game - feedbacks from you. We have several guys on our team who were modders themselves and who deeply value modding as a practice and feel it has a real added value to a game.

In short, we need as much feedback as we can gather, and we think actual players are the best persons to know what they like or not.

For all of those reasons, we felt that Early Access is a sound choice, especially considering our actual state of the development.

Edge Of Eternity - First Steam Update

by Silver, Tuesday - July 10, 2018 03:57

Edge of Eternity have posted their first Steam update.

First Update!

Hello all,

We've been up to our necks into the development of Edge of Eternity. It is about time we share with you a bit of the good things we've been working on, lately.

First of all, what we have here is a...

A new Logo!

The previous logo was good for what it was, but it was still a bit far from the epic scope of a project like "Edge of Eternity." As time went by and as the game began to evolve, we felt that our logo should be a little more fleshed out.

So Manon Sam has been working tirelessly to produce something that would be representative of the game, its story and its concepts.

Nifty! What's the story behind this one, I wonder.

Now, for a bit of lore! (And screenshots! Most of all, screenshots.)

[...]

A Bit of Gameplay!

As you already know, the combat in Edge of Eternity will be turn-based. We felt that keeping the combat turn-based will allow the player to properly plan their strategies and come up with their own devious tactics to beat their enemies.

Battle View

But we also felt that we could add another layer of strategy to the game by allowing the players (and their enemies) to exploit their environment.

The Nexus Grid

Combats in Edge of Eternity will take place on Nexus Grids. When it comes to combat, Nexus are represented by hexagons, one of the most potent sign of magical power on the world of Heryon.

Nexus represent a unity of terrain. They can contain basically anything: a group of enemies, heroes, hazards and even bonuses! On top of the already existing skills - traditional to most JRPGs: elemental spells, heals, etc. - each of the character of Edge of Eternity will possess their own unique set of skills that will address and exploit this Grid system.

Grid View

One character just might lay out a minefield on a chosen Nexus while another - just biding it's time for the right moment to jump into action - might savagely push, seize, throw or attract some enemies on that trapped Nexus.

Another case might be as follows: there is a green crystal on the center of the map, it radiates its pure-healing energy: anyone on the map, heroes or enemies, will be racing towards that Nexus and take advantage of this auto-regen open-bar. That's precisely one of the cases where pushing, blocking or trapping your enemies may sound like a good strategy.

The idea behind this is to give the player new playthings, new possibilities.

Let's consider this: you are suddenly facing an overwhelming foe and you're quite outmatched. Most RPGs will basically force you to back off and grind until your characters are strong enough to beat that boss. Here, in Edge of Eternity, the game will allow you to pause, think and ask yourself: "Now, if I use this kind of strategy, wouldn't I be able to still beat that foe, and get this awesome reward while still underleveled?"

The general answer is: yes.
The general idea is that we want you, the player, to have a genuine choice in how you tackle your challenge - and that everytime you triumph, you will owe it to no one but yourself.

You will be able to grind if you prefer to beat down the boss with sheer power, get back to the crafting station to craft and customize your weapons properly or - like in this case - get those brain juices flowing and beat those overwhelming odds.

Wow, did I say crafting? I did say crafting. But it's too soon, it's not for now. It's for a next update.

Now, for something completely different. Let's jump away from those technical specifics and meet...

The Pilitch

See that fluffy ball of feathers over there? This is a Pilitch.

Despite a plump and comical exterior which often makes people want to either hug or kick it, Pilitches are often left alone: it is common knowledge that a happy and peaceful Pilitch lays ten times more eggs than an unhappy one. At the end of the day, people often prefer a good omelet to a quick snuggle with a soft, but unwilling, pecking-like-mad gallinaceous.

Pilitches are fond of music; bards and singers are often hired by countryside farmers to play their entire repertoire in front of pens crowded with Pilitches: after a proper performance, their eggs are both plentiful and succulent.

For reasons unknown, though, Pilitches prefer songs about personal loss, existential anguish and impossible love. They cackle like there's no tomorrow when the final drama unfolds.

You can expect some pretty major announcements during the Gamescom next month! We will also be showcasing Edge of Eternity to the Press during the event. It will be a with a hands-on our latest content and features, so you can expect some juicy info and tidbits in the near future!

You can follow us on Facebook or Twitter if you fear to miss it, or even...

Join us on our Discord[discord.gg] to discuss the game and your love of JRPGs, directly with us!

Stay tuned! We will come back after the holidays!

Edge Of Eternity - December Kicksarter Update

by Hiddenx, Monday - December 04, 2017 21:00

Farflame spotted the December Kickstarter update for Edge of Eternity:

December Update

Dear Kickstarter backers,

It's been awhile since our last Kickstarter update, and we felt that something had to be done about that.

Edge of Eternity is shaping up quite smoothly, new features, new monsters, new skills, new music are steadily being added to the game - and all of them are quite awesome. The project is taking resolute steps forward, but the sheer amount of content we still aim to integrate prevents us from announcing a definite release date.

Edge Of Eternity - New Combat System

by Aubrielle, Thursday - December 24, 2015 20:12

Midgar Studio published an update on Edge of Eternity's combat system.

Thanks, Couch.

In this new update, we would like to talk about our new combat system!

In a pure traditional JRPG way, Edge of Eternity core feature is strategical combat. Our goal is to share with players our own vision of the Active Time Battle. For the Kickstarter Demo, we showed two different ways. Thanks with all your feedbacks and many playtests we have run, we are now working on a new unique combat mode. Our wish with this system is both to bring back your best JRPG memories and to offer an original experience. In that way, if the core gameplay reminds classical ATB such as Final Fantasy, our system provides a new tactical experience by introducing movements and strategic positioning.

More information.

Edge Of Eternity - Development Progress

by Couchpotato, Monday - April 13, 2015 04:41

Midgar Studio released a new development update a few weeks back that I missed for their funded JRPG game Edge Of Eternity, So if anyone is interested read on.

Hey everyone,

Now that the Kickstarter is ended we are committed again full time for Edge of Eternity.

Currently we are working hard to experiment a new workflow for our artists that will allow us to create more detailed assets that match the power of Unity 5 more quickly. Unity 5 is a marvelous engine and we'll try our best to leverage his power to step up the visual quality of Edge of Eternity.

For the workflow experiment we are working on a demo scene that will be integrated later in the game, it's a consort temple in the glory of their unique god.

Edge Of Eternity - Campaign Finished

by Couchpotato, Monday - March 23, 2015 05:11

Midgar Studio is happy to announce the kickstarter campaign for Edge Of Eternity is finished, and they reached the next $160,000 goal for more playable characters.

It’s done! After a month and a few epic final hours, our Kickstarter has ended on a last achievement. Two new characters are coming to Edge of Eternity, a JRPG for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox, with Nekaroo breeding, Crafting and Music by Yanusori Mitsuda! Thanks to your support this new pitch of the game is quite exciting, dont’ you think?

Now the real big challenge starts for us. We generated a lot of enthusiasm and we have to ensure we meet your expectations. No big party planned, rest assured, we are already committing to the development of the game.

As you’ve seen on previous updates, on our Facebook page (lien) or our blog, we already started the portage of the game on the brand new Unity 5. This will be the main short term mission on the technical side. Julien is currently creating a very nice temple and Ugo works on one of the Summons. And Cedric, well, he can’t be more excited than he his right now, with Yanusori Mitsuda coming within a few weeks.

Edge Of Eternity - Two New Characters

by Couchpotato, Saturday - March 21, 2015 04:24

The Edge Of Eternity kickstarter has thirty hours left, and was already funded earlier this month. Midgar Studio asked for $44,000, and got almost triple that that at $149,463.

They also release a new update today about two new characters.

Many of you have asked us more information about the additional playable characters. It’s obvious that it would be required considering this is a new important goal for us. But it is also a tricky update considering their importance in the main storyline. The challenge for us is to introduce you to this two new characters without spoiling a big part of the story. We hope we’ll achieve that mission in the following texts. BUT if you don’t want to risk to be spoiled of a part of a game, we advise you do not read the following! Consider yourself warned!

Edge Of Eternity - Branching Stories Update

by Couchpotato, Thursday - March 19, 2015 03:22

The Edge Of Eternity kickstarter has three days left, and the developer Midgar Studio posted a new update about how the game will have branching stories.

Edge of Eternity is all about the choices you will made in the course of the game. During your journey, you will have multiple possible path to follow, and not only Manichean good or bad actions, and it will up to you to build you very own story. According to the dangers you choose to face or avoid, some of your friends may die, town could be rampaged and people crushed. You could acquire more goods or continue your adventure empty handed.

According to the decisions you make, your travel can be deeply affected. Cities could close their doors to you and hunt you down if you mess things up.

One of the greatest challenges we are facing with Edge of Eternity is to build all this branching story system up. We do not want it to be "just" about being good or evil. We want you to play the way you want just having in mind that any single choice you make may have consequences soon or later in your adventure. For us as for you there is obvious and easy things. If you kill that woman as proposed by your quest, she will be missing later. Will it matter, when, in what conditions? Well, these consequences could be a lot more complex to handle for us.

Edge Of Eternity - Welcome Mitsuda San

by Couchpotato, Sunday - March 15, 2015 03:16

Migard Studio's next update for Edge Of Eternity they have meet the $130,000 stretch goall, and now famous JRPG composer Yasunori Mitsuda will do the music.

And it’s done! We just achieved our 130k$ goal and that’s the official kick off of our partnership with Yasunori Mitsuda!

We made previously an extended introduction of this world class video game music composer, so we guess you all understand how important it was to us to secure this goal.

Amazingly enough, this happens almost exactly for the 20th birthday of Chrono Trigger, the game that Mr Mitsuda famous, with a soundtrack that is still today considered as one of the best of all times for a video game (see Kotaku’s article and call for fan memories about it).

Mr Mitsuda will be in France next month for a very promising concert in Paris with Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts). It’s called “Press Start: Symphony of Games”, don’t miss it if you can make it. We will be all attending it and take advantage of this occasion to have an extended work meeting with our new guest composer.

Letters from the Team - Meet the Midgar guys

Hello, I’m Jeremy Zeler-Maury, founder of Midgar Studio. I started this indie studio in 2007 with one idea in mind: someday we will do a great JRPG. As you all have guess I am a big fan of the Final Fantasy serie (don’t get me started on which is the best I’m pretty sure we would start an endless discussion).

Edge Of Eternity - About Unity 5 Update

by Couchpotato, Monday - March 09, 2015 04:33

Seems Migard Studio is the next developer updating their kickstarter game to Unity version five. They also released a new update with some screenshots.

As you may have seen, Unity 5 has just been released. If you missed it we recommend that you watch “The Blacksmith”, the very impressive real-time rendered short film they released to promote the new engine.

We had access to be beta of this new version but we were quite busy with the Kickstarter demo to give it more than a very quick look. Still it looked very promising and we were very looking forward for the release.

We got our new toy early this week and got trapped in it since. This Unity 5 is a bombshell. The performances are really impressive. In a few days we made dramatic changes to the current demo. On the visual side we made a significant step forward and in the same time everything comes a lot less greedy in terms of resources and better optimized. Its crazy good.

Edge Of Eternity - New Summons Update

by Couchpotato, Friday - March 06, 2015 05:02

Midgar Studio's next update for Edge Of Eternity talks about summons.

Summons are one of the iconic features of JRPG. We all have sweet memories of Bahamut in FF7, Ark in FF9, Boreas in Golden Sun or even Bambie in Kingdom Hearts! OK we are kidding about this one (but it’s real).

Obviously we could not have imagined Edge of Eternity without cool summons.

Here’s a bit of our early work about them.

In Edge of Eternity, each character has his own summon. These summons are closely linked to their personal stories, their belief and to their combat style. You will have to have to unlock them by following the path of their storyline quests.

In the currect game project, there is so 4 summons, one for each character, but also a 5th one activated when all the characters bind their powers. As you may have noticed we unveiled some new goals recently that may add new summons. If we reach the “additional playable charaters”, each will also come with his own summon. And of course “Additionnal Summons” is quite self-explicit!

Edge Of Eternity - Interview @ Siliconera

by Couchpotato, Thursday - March 05, 2015 04:30

Siliconera interviewed Midgar studios about their new JRPG game Edge Of Eternity.

What would have happened to Edge of Eternity if the Kickstarter wasn’t successful?

Kickstarter is for us a way to improve our game drastically, to add more talents to the team on the art side, extra gameplay features such as “Nekaroo Breeding” and exciting collaborations as planned with Mr Mitsuda. Without Kickstarter we would be still working on Edge of Eternity but with less resources, with more restrictions on what we can bring into the game, meaning basically less content, a shorter game. With Kickstarter, we expect to bring to game to a whole other level.

What specific features are you able to add with the extra funding? Anything you’re most looking forward to adding?

Obviously, the most exciting goal for us is the unique opportunity we have to work with Yasunori Mitsuda. His music from Chrono Trigger and Xenogears is still fresh in our mind, and so it would be terrific to have him work on Edge of Eternity.

We also already achieved some nice goals. Edge of Eternity is coming to PS4 and Xbox One and that was very important to us as we believe this game belongs to current-gen consoles. We also achieved the Nekaroo Breeding goal that was also something the team really cared about. We believe that will be one of these side game features that make the difference between a good and a great game. Crafting is also at sight right now, and its the same about it. The game would be so more cool with it!

We also have extra goals we’ve been preparing as we say “just in case.” We did not expect our campaign would be such a success but we still worked on additional stretch goals based on ”what would be the coolest things to add if things go terribly good?” We had some nice ideas and found the right partners to do it if this is possible. I don’t want to unveil anything right now, but let’s say some of them have already been asked for by some of our backers. So we are confident that would be things they would like and expect.

Edge Of Eternity - Yasunori Mitsuda Goal

by Couchpotato, Sunday - March 01, 2015 05:25

Midgar Studio announces in a new update that Edge Of Eternity has earned over $100,000, and talks about the next stretch goal for music composer Yasunori Mitsuda.

It’s not a goal but crossing the 100K$ line after only 13 days is a huge success for us. Now you backers are talking really serious!

So it’s approaching. We already said a lot about our dream of working with Mister Mitsuda. Do not believe this is just words. We really love this man and his musics. If you are a big JRPG fans as we are there are no doubts you know Mitsuda San and you probably fully understand our excitement.

Just in case, now is a good time to tell everyone a bit more about this video game music legend that was once called “The Mozart of video game”.

Yasunori Mitsuda entered the legend of japanese video games in 1992, when Hironobu Sakaguchi gave this self-taught artist the opportunity to join Squaresoft. He joined a music team that was composed of almost only video games heroes like Kenji Ito, Nobuo Uematsu or Hiroki Kikuta. With this crew, he is credited on legendary games like Final Fantasy V and Secret of Mana.

Edge Of Eternity - Crafting Goal Reached

by Couchpotato, Saturday - February 28, 2015 05:43

Midgar Studio's next update has information the Crafting Stretch Goal was funded.

You all must wonder why nothing happened on our side since we passed the 95k$ goal last night. To be honest we were a bit taken by surprise by a very generous donator from the US that backed us for... 10 000$. He crushed the goal all by himself!

So yeah, ok, we did wait and see if that was really real or if this amazing support turned out to be some kind of joke. A few PM later it’s seems to be all real. If it’s confirmed, man, you are really amazing! We will have to think a very special reward pack just for you.

With this unexpected support we did achieved the Crafting goal. Yet another cool feature we will be able to add to Edge of Eternity. As we said, we want to put a particular attention on this and make it really interresting for our gamers. We read several interesting comments about what you would expect and how you would improve the system we presented. Be assured we are reading. Keep on giving us this kind of feedback, this really helps.

Edge Of Eternity - New Crafting Update

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - February 25, 2015 02:05

The next update this week for Edge Of Eternity is about item crafting.

Here at Midgar Studio we are all big RPG fans. We bet you got that already. Not only JRPG but also western ones, especially the work of some people like Bioware. And we also played quite a lot MMORPG.

What’s my point, you would say? Well, something we got from this gamer experience is that building a pleasant crafting system is not that easy. But when its good, its a real big nice addition to a game.

We chose to make crafting an additionnal feature of Edge of Eternity because we wanted to have the time and resources to make it good, otherwise we would rather not make it at all.

As you guys are crazy enough to support our project, this goal is now at sight. With a little extra help from your friends, there’s now chances there will be crafting in Edge of Eternity. And here’s some details about how we see it.

We would like our crafting to at the same time simple and explicit but yet powerful with a real impact on your gameplay. This is why we aim to propose diversity not in the way you will have to do things, but in the things you can do.

There would be four crafting categories in Edge of Eternity : Weapon Smithing, Armor Smithing , Alchemy and Crystals Fusion. Each are ruled by simple rules but rich of many recipes and possible unique items.

Edge Of Eternity - Nekaroos Stretch Goal

by Couchpotato, Monday - February 23, 2015 04:58

The next update from Midgar Studio's has news the Nekaroos Stretch Goal was made. The game has now made $78,159 of the $44,000 goal with twenty seven days left.

Nekaroos everywhere!

Thanks to you we will add a great feature to Edge of Eternity: Nekaroo Breeding!

As we explained in the previous update this will be a real “in game game” that will open new possibilities for all kind of players. We bet some of you will forget all about Heryon’s pain and misery and just focus on raising theses jumping creatures. We want to make it as fun as possible and we have many ideas for that, expect some surprises!

Next goal: crafting!

This is another additionnal feature we really care about. As you know, our weapon progression system based on crystals is a key base feature of Edge of Eternity. If you help us adding crafting to that, it would give our game yet another depth and customization potential.

With this addition you would be able to craft your own weapons of course but also armors and potions. We will give you a lot more details in an upcoming special update.

Edge Of Eternity - Nekaroo Update

by Couchpotato, Sunday - February 22, 2015 04:28

The next kickstarter update this week for Edge Of Eternity has more information about a creature the developers Midgar Studio call a Nekaro.

When Ugo came with his first sketches of these catgaroos during the early work on the game, it has been instantly obvious for us all there would be these creatures in the game. And as development went by they really became our mascots. Nekaroos will be very cool mounts in the game, but with your support they could become much more.

All around Heryon you will find these different Nekaroos with special abilities. Some of them will be essential to your progression. Some of them will be rare enough so the collectors amoung you spend hours hunting them and brag on it when captured. This will be a key part of Edge of Eternity, Nekaroos will be both an important way to progress into the main story and also a side game for the pet lovers. You’ll play your way.

They even made a new theme song for the Nekaro

Edge Of Eternity - Preview @ Cliqist

by Couchpotato, Friday - February 20, 2015 05:09

Amanda French published a new preview on Cliqist for Edge Of Eternity, and talks about hot the games the developer Midgar Studio had a successful relaunch this week.

The new campaign on the other hand is quite impressive with a better game summary, a clean and organized breakdown of its features, effective use of its brand new in-game footage and (better) concept art, and of course, a working demo. Even the Kickstarter video, with its evocative music and intriguing game footage, was a vast improvement over the otherwise mediocre display provided by the original campaign’s. The lower funding goal was managed (as explained by Midgar Studio in their FAQs) by the personal investment of the developing team.

You can also read a new update on the games kickstarter page.

Day 4 and this is the second goal you achieved... Edge of Eternity is coming to PS4 and Xbox One! This is quite an important step for us as we really believe our game belongs to next-gen consoles.

Our current demo is already functionnal on this plateforms, we tested it several time in the studio. But its a basic porting of the game and we really want to provide specific version that take advantage of each console potential. We also already talked to Sony and Microsoft both really liked what they saw, and it was really encouraging for us at the time, but they still have huge requirements and checklists before they will approve our release.

Edge Of Eternity - Why Use Kickstarter

by Couchpotato, Thursday - February 19, 2015 05:00

Midgar Studio's next update for Edge Of Eternity answers a few questions for backers about why the developer used kickstarter, and how they will be using the funds.

We saw many questions about the financing of the project and about our goals considered by some of you as kind of low compared to other projects.

First thing important is that we are not proposing a project “to be” that will start with the funding. This new EoE project is on for more than a year now. There is still a lot (really a lot) to do to provide you the full game we have in mind, but a lot has been done already too. We developed an internal framework that now allows us to be very efficient and productive and we are also using technologies like Unity that are a real time saver for developers.

Another very important point is that the core team, the 4 of us, is already funded through the investments we got (personnal, family and friends) and previous missions. Midgar Studio exists since 2008 and we worked hard for external customers to build up the budget that allowed us to start Edge of Eternity.

So what is the money for then?

Well, our small team built what we believe are strong basis for Edge of Eternity but of course we need some reinforcement to make it the great game we want.

Our stretch goals are calculated to fulfill specific missions and answer specific needs. They are based on estimated workloads distributed on the dev time of the project.

The first 44k$ are mostly meant to bring more art into the game. We will use them to add talents to our animation and character design team. It will also give us some resources for a part time writer that will work on dialogs, sub-quests and stories and make planet Heryon even more living.

The second goal at 60k$ answers to the 2 to 3 months dedicated development needed to provide you PS4 and Xbox One versions. More coding/programming skills will be added to the team with a new team member specificaly in charge of consoles versions.

The third goal would allow us to spend some game design time on Nekaroo Breeding and would also give us some budget for more time of our new artits and programmer friends.

It is the same for the fourth goal that would give us budget to develop a special craft system and even more art and coding time, as well as writting.

All the upcoming recruits we are mentionning are already around. They know about the project and even give an hand on their spare time from time to time. They are in the starting blocks, fully operationnals.

Finally, the last goal is, as you know, meant to fund our partnership with M. Mitsuda that will propose us around 10 pieces of music including the opening, main theme, character themes, battle themes…

Edge Of Eternity - Game Funded in Two Days

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - February 18, 2015 05:00

Edge Of Eternity has managed to get funded in two days, and has made $45,562 of the games $44,000 goal. The campaign  has thirty two days left to make more.

We can't believe we already hit our first Stretch Goal. Edge of Eternity is officially coming to PC, Linux and Mac!!

We don't have enough words to express how thankful we are!

It's a small thing but many of you have been asking for the music of our video. That will be our "celebration mini gift" :

Edge Of Eternity - First Kickstarter Update

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - February 17, 2015 04:42

The first kickstarter update was posted today for Edge Of Eternity, and announces the developer had a very good first day. Based on the new information it seems the campaign has made $32,643, and is close to reaching the $44,000 goal.

$25,000?! YOU’RE SIMPLY AMAZING!

10,000$ in 8 hours, 25,000$ in 1,5 day, that’s a start we could not even dream of. Words are missing to express our gratitude for such a support. During the last months, we’ve put a lot of effort and energy preparing our Demo and this Kickstarter campaign. What’s happening is the best possible reward.

We know it's far from perfect yet and we are currently working hard to fix any issue you could have reported us in this Pre-Alpha Demo. We are also careful to consider every single feedback you make and to answer all your mail and messages.

Sorry if we missed anything so far. Thanks to you we had a good start. But this is just a start. We still need you to help us achieve our goals. Feel free to spread the word anywhere you can. Any kind of communication will be helping.

Let's make a great game together!

Midgar Studio also released a new drawing timelaspe video.

DSO Gaming posted a few new screenshots for Edge Of Eternity the week.

Midgar Studio has released a new set of screenshots for its new JRPG that is heavily influenced by the combat system of Squaresoft’s classic JRPG, Final Fantasy VII. Edge Of Eternity will take place on a space/medieval/steampunk universe and aims to feature a mature story and fancy graphics. The game is currently planned for a December 2015 release, so here is hoping that Midgar Studio will further enhance and improve its visuals.

DSO Gaming posted a couple of new screenshots for the Edge Of Eternity JRPG.

Even though Edge of Eternity’s Kickstarter campaign failed to even come close to its initial $200K goal, Midgar Studio released today a new set of screenshots for this Steampunk/Medieval turn based JRPG. Edge of Eternity will be coming on current-gen platforms (PS4, Xbox One, WiiU, PC and Mac) sometime in 2015. Keep in mind that this comes from an indie team, so don’t expect mind-blowing visuals.

Edge Of Eternity - Two New Videos

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - October 08, 2014 01:02

Midgar Studio released two videos since the failed kickstarter for Edge Of Eternity. As I reported last year the good news is the game is still being developed.

We worked hard to bring a playable pre-alpha for the french show Pix&Tech, this is a early and rough pre-alpha, actually it lack many of the unique mechanics that Edge of Eternity will contain and it have a lot of bugs and unfinished things like animations and UI but we really want to show to everyone where we're going with the new version of Edge Of Eternity.

The game is already greenlit - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles...

The action takes place on a medieval-fantasy world named Heryon and on space. This is the first Alpha Gameplay video since the new start of the project based on player feedback from Greenlight and Kickstarter.

This video will showcase Daryon the main hero (you will be table to have up to 4 characters in your battle team), the next one will showcase Selen (formerly named Salvia), the battle synergy with Daryon and the quest system !

Edge Of Eternity - Game Update & New Video

by Couchpotato, Sunday - April 27, 2014 06:11

It has been a while since I checked up on the failed kickstarter Edge Of Eternity. The good news is they found an investor, and are working on the kickstarter relaunch.

Pre-Alpha Gameplay Video

This is the first Pre-Alpha Gameplay video since the new start of the project based on player feedback from Greenlight and Kickstarter.

Some things are still very rough since it's pre-alpha but we are working hard to bring a lot of better things for the next one ^^.

This video showcase Daryon the main hero (you will be table to have up to 4 characters in your battle team), the next one will showcase Selen (formerly named Salvia), the battle synergy with Daryon and the quest system !

We are actually working on the next Kickstarter, we learned what was wrong from the previous Kickstarter and we'll changed some major point of the project like the platforms and the graphic design and we decided to split the game into three episodes to ask for a less high goal, we're now a smaller team with fewer people but a lot more implicated in the project, they give a lot of their personal time to make Edge Of Eternity a reality, we also created a rich quest system that give to players a lot of additional content. The new Kickstarter isn't planned for this summer, probably between September and October in the wait we need that people who love the game to spread the world about Edge Of Eternity, Thanks a lot for all your support !

And to finish, the alpha version of the game will be playable for the first time at the French show Pix & Tech at Nîmes for our French fans !

Edge Of Eternity - Game Update & Screenshots

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - February 05, 2014 00:29

You may recall the Space JRPG last year called Edge Of Eternity. It seems after the failed kickstarter the developers found a private investor to finish the game.

We are really thankful for your support and comments.

Unfortunately, the collected money is not enough to create the game you deserve (HD, orchestral music, etc.).

However, we are pleased to announce that, in association with new investor we are still working on this project. Edge Of Eternity will hold on its horses, but it will emerge, I give you my words.

You can also check out some new screenshots at  DSO Gaming.

Midgar Studio has released a new set of screenshots for Edge of Eternity. Edge of Eternity is a turn-by-turn combat system J-RPG that is planned for a November 2014 release on PC, Linux, Mac, PSVita, Wii U, OUYA, PS4, XBoxOne, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry 10.

Edge Of Eternity - Kickstarter Launched

by Couchpotato, Saturday - September 28, 2013 00:41

Edge Of Eternity has finally launched its kickstarter a few days later than anticipated. The JRPG is asking for $200,000, and I wish them luck. Give it a look if your interested.

Edge of Eternity is a new RPG that will lead you to experience a unique and unusual universe. The action takes place in a world whose design combines some steampunk influence - the best Japanese RPG - and Medieval age influences.

Through mysteries and softness, we built characters that you will join in a very exciting adventure of action, explorations, revelations and unexpected situations.

The music - written and composed by our team - has been recorded by a real orchestra, bringing thereby a unique feeling every step along the way. The game is based on the great old fashion turn-based combat system, as a tribute to the best Final Fantasy, and it comes along with exclusive features such as Cloud Save, and cross platform facilities. Buy it once, use it everywhere, and keep fighting until the end.

Today, the game is in a making process, in fact the images come from our prototype for mobile devices. Edge Of Eternity - Interview @ PSNStores

by Couchpotato, Sunday - September 22, 2013 00:58

PSNStores has a new developer Q&A with Jeremy from Midgar Studio about Edge of Eternity.

Q: How big is Midgar Studio and how did the studio get its start?

Midgar Studio is a studio of 7 employees and 4 trainees. We are extremely versatile so it’s very hard to tell what everyone does, in general there are some programmers, a lot of graphics artists and a musician.

No one has been by my side at the start of the studio. I had started everything by myself, creating websites first and games for some years. I eventually needed more employees and then — here we are.

Q: Can you tell us about Edge of Eternity. Is there a plan to continue supporting the title with post-release DLC or online at all?

We plan to support Edge Of Eternity later with free DLC. We want to create a universe and a saga. And to introduce this saga we must introduce some free episodes in DLC. Nothing is like giving life to your characters time after time!

Q: What experiences can you share with us that have led to the creation of Edge of Eternity and the need to put it on every platform under the 2014 sun? All except PS3, why is that?

We really think the J-RPG has a bright future. The genre is a lot less represented than before and I’ve heard many people say there are no new games like the good old Final Fantasy games. At Midgar Studio, we are all great fans of J-RPG so we decided to create one.

The choice of cross platform is a choice of myself. I think the future of videogames is cross platform gaming, playing everywhere in your favorite universe. We technically can release it to PS3 and if we can we’ll do it but atm we are approved for PSVita and PS4. It represents the vision we have, a game that pushes the PSVita to its limits and a game that exploits the power of the next gen consoles to create an amazing TV/Console experience!
