Dungeon Rushers - Review

by Hiddenx, Monday - February 27, 2017 19:39

The Financial Post post has reviewed Dungeon Rushers:

Dungeon Rushers review: Turn-based mobile RPG is possessed of a steep challenge and a wry wit

I detest being forced to either wait or pay to keep playing, and I have an even bigger issue with game design that sneakily encourages payers to pay to win. I prefer a fair challenge that rewards skill and tenacity rather than a player’s willingness to make endless in-app purchases.

[...]

So Dungeon Rushers isn’t the most polished or finely balanced game you’ll play on your phone. But the combat and exploration is challenging, the characters’ banter sometimes made me snicker out loud, and – most importantly – it’s fair. That’s enough to earn my five bucks.

Dungeon Rushers - Review @ IndieGames

by Hiddenx, Tuesday - January 03, 2017 09:53

IndieGames reviewed the Heroic-Parody tactical RPG Dungeon Rushers:

Dungeon Rushers Uses Steam Workshop - It's Super Effective!

Dungeon Rushers is a neat dungeon crawler that plays a bit like a board game with turn-based JRPG fights. It's a pleasant little game with a lovely sense of humor, probably featuring the only dwarven warrior who is actually an accountant. A recent patch introduced Steam Workshop support, and that one really turned out to be a game changer.

Build your own dungeon and fill it with traps and monsters! Cackle with glee as other players fail repeatedly! And, of course, attempt to conquer their creations as well. You see, before the patch the game only had ever so slightly randomized dungeons, but now, everything is possible. You're entirely at the mercy of your fellow players, which makes dungeon delving so much more fun. Beating someone else's creation isn't just satisfying, it also allows you to unlock more stuff for your own dungeons.

It might take you an hour or two of playing the campaign to unlock this custom content, but once you're able to upload your own diabolic creations, you'll be hooked. All of this neatly integrates into the single player portion of the game, as you'll be using one cast of characters for both parts. It really is quite clever, and I'm looking forward to whatever the developers have planned for the rest of Dungeon Rushers' early access duration.

Dungeon Rushers - Review @ BlotGaming

by Hiddenx, Wednesday - December 21, 2016 09:13

BlotGaming has reviewed the parody RPG Dungeon Rushers:

Dungeon Rushers: Review

Dungeon Rushers is a parody strategy dungeon-crawling Role Playing Game (RPG) developed by Goblinz Studio and published by Goblinz Studio alongside WhisperGames.  The game was released on September 7th, 2016 for PC.

Dungeon Rushers
has you take on the role of Elion, a young man who is sick of his boring life and wishes to become an adventurer to seek out the three G’s, gold, glory and girls (his words).  He decides to leave home armed with a toilet brush, and start clearing out some dungeons.

The game has quite a few different elements to it.  Exploration, combat, inventory management, crafting, bartering, a skills system and plenty more.  You will spend almost the same amount of time taking part in each of these different gameplay elements, all of which are interesting and are welcome additions to the game.

The exploration in Dungeon Rushers has you working your way through a maze of tunnels and rooms, as you clear them of enemies, traps and loot.  The map for each Dungeon is laid out in tiles, with each area being one tile.  Unless you make use of an ability which assists towards clearing the map, any area you have not been to yet is blacked out.  This causes you to think carefully about what abilities to use when, as you never know what you might come across.  Some abilities help you clear traps, some allow you a small bonus at the beginning of combat and some help you in certain other ways of exploration, such as locating one sole treasure room.  You need not uncover 100% of the map either unless you like working towards the occasional bonus objective for each dungeon.  In order to finish a dungeon, all you need to do is find the main treasure room, which allows you to loot and leave.  Though doing this causes you to forfeit any experience or extra loot you could receive.

[...]

Dungeon Rushers is a fun and challenging game for those into strategy RPGs.  While it does feel like it could easily have been a mobile game, others may appreciate a game like this being on a bigger screen and with the ability to have a deeper involvement, we certainly did.  You don’t need to become wholly immersed in the game to be able to just play and have a bit of fun, and that is where Dungeon Rushers shines.  It is great for a multitude of gamers but only those who truly love a challenge will stick with it until the end.
