When FTL meets Foundation... and Dune

Crying Suns is a tactical rogue-lite that puts you in the role of a space fleet commander as you explore a mysteriously fallen empire.

In this story rich experience inspired by Dune and Foundation, each successful run will uncover the truth about the Empire... and yourself as well.

Main Features

- Space exploration in a procedurally-generated universe
- Tactical fights between battleships and their squadron fleets
- More than 300 possible story events
- A deep and dramatic storyline structured in 6 chapters
- A dark and disturbing atmosphere inspired by our favorite S-F universes (Foundation, Dune, Battlestar Galactica)

Prepare to die often, it's a rogue-lite game... And it's a hard one…

The story: The epic journey of a clone

After 700 years of peace and prosperity, the Galactic Empire has suddenly been shattered into pieces. The OMNIs, god-like machines which did everything for their human masters, have mysteriously shut down. And humankind, having long since lost the ability to survive on its own, is dangerously close to extinction. But somewhere in a far corner of the Galaxy is Gehenna, a planet of ice and rock and a top-secret facility that is the pinnacle of Imperial Tech and also humanity’s last chance.

You are a clone of Admiral Ellys Idaho, a weapon fashioned from flesh, the best Imperial Admiral ever to battle in the stars and you have just been awoken on this planet by its strange and darkly-humorous Guardian, Kaliban, the last functional OMNI to exist.

Your mission: skillfully command a battleship through the Empire's now chaotic, violent clusters ––where one wrong move could be your last–– as you try to reactivate the OMNIs and save the future of all humankind. But you must leave Gehenna now.... for time has almost run out.

Platforms

Crying Suns will be available at first on PC and Mac. We also planned to release the game on iPad soon after the desktop version.

Crying Suns - Humble Bundle Partnership and New Demo

by Silver, Monday - February 04, 2019 11:13

A new update for Crying Suns announces a new demo and a partnership with Humble Bundle.

Greetings Crying Suns fans,

All the team is proud to announce the release of a new free demo of its story-driven and tactical rogue-lite game, Crying Suns. With this newest version, downloadable on Crying Suns’ Steam page, you will be able to experience a major update to Crying Suns’ battle gameplay that the team has been working on for several months now.

We are also thrilled to announce our recent partnership with publisher Humble Bundle for the Windows and OSX release of Crying Suns, in 2019.

New battle gameplay

Following your feedback, and after a long period of thinking about the gaming experience, the team took the decision to streamline the game flow during battles, making the following changes:

  • Removed focus points,
  • Altered roles of the Heroes so that they now support different battleship functions: hull maintenance, squadrons and weapons control,
  • Tweaked functioning of critical damages,
  • Added many other additional features.

The result of this major update is a smoother, deeper and more intuitive game, playable for free on the newest version of Crying Suns’ downloadable demo

Partnership with Humble Bundle

We chose recently to partner with Humble Bundle for the release of Crying Suns, particularly to benefit from the publisher's expertise and advice for Windows and OSX releases. The game will still be released in 2019 and with all the stretch goals and new features promised in the Kickstarter campaign.

Gameplay live stream

See you on Monday, February 4 at noon (PST) for the Crying Suns’ demo live stream simultaneously on:

The development team will answer your questions about the game in the stream chats.

Check the changelogs on our forum to access the complete list of all changes made since we started the Beta phase.

Crying Suns - Closed Beta Soon

by Silver, Wednesday - July 25, 2018 12:46

The closed beta for Crying Suns will start soon, according to the latest update. There are six days remaining before the crowdfunding period ends.

200 % / News about the Closed Beta

Posted by Caroline

Greetings, Admirals!

Only 7 days left until the end of our Kickstarter campaign! Again, we really want to thank all the (almost) 2500 backers who have allowed us to reach… 200% of our initial goal! Thanks to you, we’ll get to make the version of Crying Suns that we always imagined.

We also want to thank press and influencers who have helped us spread the word about our game. We’ve already told you about Kotaku and Rock, Paper, Shotgun in the Kickstarter news #11. We are now proud to add PC Gamer with their article, “Crying Suns smashes Kickstarter goal, aims to be FTL but with more story”. These reviews have helped us a lot!

The Closed Beta will soon be launched!

The Crying Suns’ Closed Beta will be launched shortly after the Kickstarter campaign ends, in early August.

Our Kickstarter news #4 detailed the features and improvements you will find in our Closed Beta. Here are some additions:

  • Integration of imperialist battleships
  • Improvements to lighting
  • Integration of new sounds effects in the introduction cutscene and the run customization screen
  • Integration of an options screen (yes, FINALLY you will be able to quit the game ^^)
  • Improvement to our tooltip visibility
  • Integration of visual feedbacks when your squadrons go through asteroids and lose life points
  • Integration of generic Heroes with a procedural appearance
  • And, of course, we’ve fixed a lot of bugs

We are also implementing a forum in order to discuss the Closed Beta… and, of course, other topics!

How to join the early Beta Testers?

Select the “Beta access package” tier (30 €) or upwards, and you’ll be among the first to test the Crying Suns’ Beta!

Thanks for your support!

During the next 7 days, please continue to share our campaign with others. Invite your friends, and, most importantly, enjoy the demo!

Crying Suns - Funded and Stretch Goals

by Silver, Monday - July 16, 2018 08:05

Crying Suns has been funded on Kickstarter and is now onto stretch goals.

Crying Suns is funded!

Greetings indie games supporters!

We did it! Thanks to your crucial help, we will be able to realize the project of our dreams, and maybe even more!

Indeed, with 18 more days to go on the campaign, we have the opportunity to go further into the depth, the quality and the uniqueness of Crying Suns experience.

Here is a reminder of the first stretch goals we planed, mainly focused on new contents such as new factions, alternate endings, the kind of extras we had to cut from our initial plans to fit into the budget:

Besides Kickstarter, Crying Suns is active on several social networks where we post regularly exclusive contents, sometimes experimental, but most of the time coming directly from the game progress. We also post shoutout about other indie projects that we really like. Don’t hesitate to come to talk to us for any reason, we answer :)

Especially on Twitter, but also on Facebook, Reddit and Steam.
