Below - Will Be Worth the Wait

by Silver, Saturday - April 07, 2018 22:44

Dualshockers preview Below and think it will be worth the wait.

Out of everything I saw in Below, the one thing I cannot get over is the art style and aesthetic that it presents. The sound design and music are expertly crafted and enhance the experience significantly. Both of these things also add to the isolationist feel that the game is going for. I had major flashbacks to Hyper Light Drifter while playing Below, which is very high praise from me. This isolationist style of play is even further enhanced by the HUD, which is very minimalistic and allows the emphasis to be on the world and rather than your health bar or items.

Below - Releasing This Year?

by Silver, Thursday - March 22, 2018 12:27

Below maybe releasing this year according to PC Gamer.

Depending on how you want to parse the semantics of that promise, it may or may not have been broken by creative director Kris Piotrowski, who told Engadget that Below maybe—probably, even—will be out this year.

"I still can't say the exact date, but we are aiming for this year—although we've said that over and over, so..." Piotrowski said. "We have all the systems in place and now we're kind of going deeper and deeper through the world, and polishing and trying to just get it all packaged up."

Below - Teaser Trailer

by Silver, Thursday - March 17, 2016 12:12

@PC Gamer Capybara Games have teased their new roguelike Below. The game puts exploration to the fore and you are very vulnerable in combat. Check out the games website for more.

It's been a couple of years since our hands-on with Below, but even then the game sounded wonderfully intriguing. Exploration is at the core of the experience, but you are not a terribly durable explorer, and as is often the way with roguelikes, combat will be very dangerous. It looks fantastic-not retro, like Capy's last game, Sword & Sworcery: EP, but very stylish-and, assuming the audio design hasn't taken a long walk off a short pier since we tried it (and this trailer suggests it has not), should sound great too.
