ATOM RPG - Interview @ Hardcore Droid
@Farflame spotted that Hardcore Droid had interviewed the creators of ATOM RPG. Thanks for the link!
An Interview with Atent Games, Creators of ATOM RPG
A Love Letter to Classic RPGs
Developed by the skilled indie team at Atent Games, ATOM RPG satisfies our craving for classic turn-based CRPGs of the past. Officially launched in 2018, the game came about in part thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign with over 1,100 backers. But, as explained on the Kickstarter page, Atent’s post-apocalyptic RPG is a passion project that would have been completed no matter the outcome of the crowdfunding operation.
That dedication is evident in the result: a detailed, nonlinear world with immersive writing; deep, multi-choice dialogues; and a compelling setting that clamors for exploration. Set in an alternative history in which a world war between the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc ended in a devastating clash of nuclear bombs, civilization in ATOM RPG has nearly ceased to exist. The survivors make do with what remains and try to rebuild in the post-nuclear wasteland.
Hardcore Droid recently had the opportunity to interview Anton Krasilnikov, a writer and designer for Atent Games who has racked up over 10 years in game development. Here are some of the insights that he shared with us about the creation of ATOM RPG.
Your team is located in four different countries. How did you come together as a team of developers?
We met online, on indie developer forums and social media sites, but some of us already knew each other before the team formed. For example, our writers and programmers were co-workers on other projects to begin with.

ATOM RPG - Interview with AtentGames
Hardcoredroid interviewed the devs of ATOM RPG about its creation.
Kickstarting ATOM RPG was clearly a good move that helped you turn your ideas into reality. How did the process go for you guys?
It was a very humbling experience. Starting out with zero advert budget, it was a great surprise when people learned of our project and backed it so frugally. It was nerve racking to follow the campaign, guessing whether we’d get enough to finish development. But it was so very joyful to see it come to pass!
Do you plan on Kickstarting future projects, or has the success of ATOM RPG made you financially able to proceed without Kickstarter?
Even if we’d be lucky enough to have enough funds to start our next project without Kickstarter, which isn’t very likely, we’d still go on Kickstarter with some small end goal just to see how people react to our idea, what they think about it, etc. We also love it when the player base interacts with our projects on the earliest possible stages, supplying ideas, critiques and themes. And Kickstarter is perfect for this.
The game was first released on Steam, then ported to mobile and now Switch. What difficulties in particular did you encounter when creating the Android version of the game?
Thankfully, Unity has a very wide array of tools to make the transfer process as easy as it can be. But we still had to spend a lot of time and resources to accomplish such tasks as making a new mobile-friendly UI\UX, a cloud saving system, and many other mobile-exclusive features.
Was the decision to create ports to different platforms a logistical one, or was it based on player demand? Will ATOM RPG make its way onto Xbox and PlayStation in the future?
We constantly interact with our players, and the first request to port to mobile and Switch was sent to us when our game was still in Kickstarter. So, yeah, basically first and foremost the ports are a promise we made to players long ago and really wanted to keep. We’re working on doing the Xbox and PlayStation ports at the moment (closer and closer to the finish line) for the same reason.

RPGWatch Feature - ATOM RPG Review
Forgottenlor had some time on his hands and decided to review ATOM RPG to find out if it was what he exepcted of it.
The digital age and crowd funding have supported a market for retro games and ATOM RPG is a perfect example. Anyone who has played the classic Fallout will feel very familiar with the game’s UI, color pallet, overworld map, and the general gameplay including its combat, character system, and branching dialogues. For anyone who hasn’t played Fallout, ATOM RPG is a post-apocalyptic isometric RPG. It features a well balanced mix of story based quests, which can often be solved without violence for those characters with the appropriate high skills or attributes; also, exploration in a big open world via world map, and turn based combat featuring an action point system. Unlike many other post-apocalyptic RPGs, ATOM RPG is set in the Soviet Union, and its tone is less grimdark, which isn’t that hard since most post-apocalyptic games feature a world fallen into total savagery. Gameplaywise ATOM RPG doesn’t do anything revolutionary, but in a retro game, that is exactly what the core audience wants. In this case, ATOM RPG offers fairly complex character mechanics, and a number of ways to build a character that will reveal itself as a failure at some point during the game. For those looking for a lengthy game with a balanced mix of combat, story, and exploration, Atom RPG has a lot to offer.

ATOM RPG - Trudograd Dev Diary 2
A new dev diary for ATOM RPG about the Trudograd expansion. This follows on from the recent 1.111 patch.
ATOM RPG: Trudograd dev update #2
Hello, friends!
It’s time to do good on our New Year’s promise and share some more news about ATOM RPG: Trudograd.
We’ll start with information on new developments in the field of exoskeleton research! We perfected our walking tank visually, and made it capable of attacking enemies in melee combat! Here’s how it looks at the moment:
WIP
However the combat system improvements do not end with the exoskeleton. We also made a special skill that will allow you to attack your enemies with the buttstock of your weapon, along with new weapon mods that will be discussed in a later post.
WIP
Since we have updated many combat-related stuff in the game, we decided to change the look of the inventory as well. Here’s how it will look during your travels in Trudograd. Something akin to this style was suggested by some of our players. We hope you like it!
WIP
Now we’d like to show you the changes we made to in-game menus such as the minimap, stats or skill tree. Here’s our new menu system!
WIP
This new menu system is highly optimized for comfort and style. We really hope you will enjoy it!
Last but not least - some in-game art. Here’s a loading screen we particularly enjoy.
Work on Trudograd is constant. Next time we will share some new location screenshots and news about weapons and combat in general, as well as many other new stuff.
ATOM RPG: Trudograd will be released for closed testing on February 29th.
Thank you for reading and we really hope that you liked what we shared. See you next time! And let there be ATOM!

ATOM RPG - Patch 1.109
Porcozaur spotted patch 1.109 for the ATOM RPG:
Patch 1.109: Isometric Mode and Much More
The game now has an isometric mode and many new fixes and features our players asked for!
Hello, friends!
It is time to publish yet another large patch for the game. This time around we fixed all of the new bugs the community found, as well as optimized the soundscape, left handed person accessibility, and controller support for the game.
Also, we added the new camera mode to the game, that puts the view into isometric projection. This mode is a new feature we are developing for the Trudograd standalone expansion, but we just couldn’t stop ourselves from adding it into the original game as well, both for testing purposes and because we think you just might like it. The mode can be toggled from the menu.
Speaking of Trudograd, the development is going swimmingly. The standalone expansion now features 20+ characters, with unique portraits and dialogues, 10+ quests, a new mob enemy, and a few new mechanics. You can follow our work at our social media accounts if you want.

ATOM RPG - Review @ Digitalunderground
Digital Underground has reviewed ATOM RPG:
ATOM RPG Review
As a fan of the classic CRPGs, especially those dealing in a post-apocalyptic world, I couldn’t help getting excited to review ATOM RPG.
ATOM RPG is a post-apocalyptic indie game, inspired by classic CRPGs: Fallout, Wasteland, System Shock, Deus Ex, Baldur’s Gate and many others.
In 1986 both the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc were destroyed in mutual nuclear bombings. You are one of the survivors of the nuclear Holocaust. Your mission – to explore the wild and wondrous world of the Soviet Wasteland. To earn your place under the sun. And to investigate a shadowy conspiracy, aimed at destroying all that is left of life on Earth.
Atom RPG ReviewATOM RPG includes many of the game style components that you may have become familiar with when playing the Fallout series games. Most notably is the isometric overhead view that was used in the classic, Fallout 2. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic Russia and conversations refer to many of the region’s themes which immerse you in a realistic setting. Your character will dive deep into a story of occults, bandits and comrades which can be a valuable help.

Atom RPG Review Summary
Giving a nod to such classics as Fallout and Wasteland, this game honors the genre well. Admittedly I am a sucker for this style game and thus my review is probably a bit biased. If you enjoy the classic Fallout 1 and 2, the ruined wastelands of a post-apocalyptic world then you can’t go wrong with this well crafted Indie game from AtomTeam. A labor of love, the passion of the developers is felt through each moment of gameplay.Score: 9.4/10

ATOM RPG - Review @ Gamebanshee
Gamebanshee have a review of ATOM RPG up, which the reviewer liked, but with some remarks.
Have you ever wondered, while playing Fallout, how a nuclear conflict of such scale could have affected the other side? Well the developers at the very aptly named AtomTeam clearly did, and after a successful Kickstarter campaign followed by an Early Access phase, they have produced ATOM RPG - an isometric role-playing game that takes place in the Soviet Wasteland.
ATOM RPG is subtitled as “A Post-apocalyptic Indie Game,” and that's exactly what you'll be getting if you decide to purchase it. It looks and plays a great deal like the early entries in the Fallout series, and seeing how that series is now a first-person shooter and on some occasions an online survival game, getting a proper new isometric “Fallout” is not something to be overlooked.
With ATOM RPG getting its final content update back in May of 2019, I decided to see for myself whether it was a worthy spiritual successor or a low-grade clone.

ATOM RPG - Review @ Gamereactor
Gamereactor has reviewed the ATOM RPG:
Atom RPG
From Kickstarter to full-fledged Steam release, Atom RPG is a massive love letter to old school CRPGs. Here are our thoughts.
Story-wise, starting off, the player (a government special forces operative working for a branch called "Atom", tasked with restoring the world to its pre-war stage) sits alone by a fire in the desert, listening to a tape recording containing classified information, so classified in fact, that the recording has to be destroyed upon hearing the message. The mission given to the player is to find General Morozov, a higher-up who went missing under mysterious circumstances. After destroying the message, our protagonist sits by the fire, getting some rest before heading out, minding his/her business, commenting on what a nice day we seem to be having in the cold, nuclear wasteland when five men approach. One of the men asks our character if she's Little Red Riding Hood on a mission to bring food to my sick grandmother before her demise while nodding at my supplies. "Are all those bags yours?" he asks with a grin on his face. "I could help you carry them for a price". The many skill points we put into speechcraft instantly show their value as we get two skill exclusive options right off the bat to tell the strangers to bugger off in two manners, differing in the amount of aggression displayed. We decided to use our strength option, buffing our character's petite female body to that of a very, very small man (it turns out we're not the Hulk with beginner stats) but neither of the strangers seems very intimidated. In fact, the leader of the bunch walks over to us and knocks our badass lady to the ground with one light punch. As we wake up, this Little Red Riding Hood's gear is long gone. Looks like grandma will have to manage.

Atom RPG is a love letter to the classic CRPG genre. Those of you who dream of a new Fallout or can't wait for the new Wasteland to come out should definitely check it out. The game has a solid narrative, a long storyline, interesting dialogue, retro (but lovely) visuals, and an old school combat system. There are a couple of bugs, weird translations, and some odd NPC behaviour in combat, but these issues are easily fixed with a patch or two and are minor enough to still get through the game. For all you genre fans out there, this indie is a real gem and it has the potential to grow into something even bigger in the future - and we'll be following said future closely.

ATOM RPG - Review @ IndianNoob
IndianNoob has reviewed ATOM RPG:
ATOM RPG Review (PC) Noobreview :: Viva La Apocalypse
Fallout 2 stands the test of time as one of my top two favourite games ever since 1999. While I’ve grown to like Bethesda’s first attempt at Fallout and loved Obsidian’s take on Bethesda’s formula, they didn’t exactly prove to be a Fallout 2 substitute for me. The same can be said for Underrail, Wasteland 2 and Age of Decadence. They’re all their own things. Call me a Nostalgia-stricken purist but it is what it is. So it’s no wonder that I’ve been on the lookout for a game to scratch this particular itch for quite some time. It’s how I came to notice ATOM, a crowdfunded indie RPG ‘heavily inspired’ by the classic Fallouts. 50 hours it took me to answer these two not-so-simple questions; does ATOM delivers on the promises made and is it a good RPG? Let’s find out.
ATOM RPG is a post-apocalyptic indie game, inspired by classic CRPGs: Fallout, Wasteland, System Shock, Deus Ex and Baldur’s Gate for Microsoft Windows. Developed and published by Atom Team, the game was released into Steam Early Access towards the end of last year and was released out of Early Access on December 19, 2018.[...]
VERDICT
Superficially, ATOM feels less like a spiritual successor and more like a quasi-sequel to Fallout with some strong STALKER vibes. Yet despite the strong similarities, ATOM manages to stand on its own feet thanks to the unique setting and the quirky Slavic charm. It’s a well-made game with tried and true RPG systems, but one that doesn’t necessarily fix the problems of its role model or revolutionize the systems. ATOM does what it promises to do extremely well. For $ 14.99 or ₹ 479, you just can’t go wrong with this one.Score: 8/10

ATOM RPG - Review @ EKGaming
EKGaming has reviewed the ATOM RPG:
Fallout Inspired ATOM RPG Is Out Now and Wonderful
Looking at ATOM RPG: Post-apocalyptic indie game (that is the full title), most people would be struck by how much it looks like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. In fact, it looks like a graphically updated version of either, maybe with a bit more of the realistic wastelands thrown into it. It was also inspired by a number of other early CRPGs like Baldur’s Gate, and it shows.
[...]Like many newer indie games, ATOM got its start on Kickstarter. With an original goal of just $15,000, it was funded twice over with over a thousand backers. While ATOM came out an entire year later than estimated delivery (also like most new indie games), its reception has been remarkably warm with hundreds of positive reviews. Part of this is due to the fact that it spent a year in Early Access, listening to fan complaints and recommendations, addressing concerns, and polishing the game up in every way they could imagine.
ATOM is a fantastic lovesong to old school isometric RPGs, and especially to the days before everyone was furious at Bethesda about everything.
ATOM RPG - Released
After one year in Early Access the postapocalyptic ATOM RPG has now been released on Steam:
Greetings, friends!
It’s time to make a very important announcement! After a year of work spent in Early Access we can finally name the release date for ATOM RPG! It’s going to be the 19th of december, 2018, when we’ll finish polishing the game mechanics, testing of new content, error fixing, and will finalize the main questline of the game.
The fact that we’re releasing the game, though, does not mean that we’re stopping development. ATOM is still going to receive a lot of free additional content way after the release date.
Now, a quick summary of the things you’ll be getting in 1.0:And last, but not least… As we the developers, and you, the players, already know, this game we dreamt of creating for all those years, would never be possible without your trust. This is why we decided to add a bonus “veteran’s kit” for all who bought and played ATOM while it was still Early Access. Thank you for believing in us.
- We added a third global map that was needed to finish the game’s main storyline. It’s a place called the “Dead city” - a forgotten, mutant-ridden metropolis that was destroyed by nuclear warheads. After this place was finished, we loved it so much, we’re currently planning on expanding it in future updates! Hope you’ll enjoy it too!
- We added new NPCs and quests.
- An ability to roam the Wastes in a car of your own!
- New dungeons including an experimental-AI-run secret Bunker.
- New traits available on character creation.
- New cinematic that will show off how you impacted the Wasteland.
Now then, we’re off to make the final preparations. Feel free to ask any questions.
Let there be ATOM!

Information about the 1.0 release
Hello, friends!
A lot of people have been asking - when we will see ATOM? Will it be this year or the next one? Now, we don’t want to ignore our community so here is a small informational post about what we are up to right now.
First of all - the game will come out in the end of December, 2018, no second thoughts about it! Right now we can’t say the exact date, but we will say it in out traditional pre-update post that will come out in the next week. We will use this time to focus on all the new features and quests which there are many! Although, testing the new content, bug fixes and finalizing the new content is not everything that we still need to do.
Aside from that we are also working on adding some of the hottest features that you, the players, asked for! For example, now you can check your dialogue history in the game, use your items on the characters without starting a dialogue, zoom out the camera further and change the game options without quitting to the main menu.
There's a lot of work, but we are even more determined to finish it! :) And here are some of the screenshots of the new locations. We wouldn’t want it to be just some boring ol’ text update now do we!..
Live long and prosper!
Yours truly,

ATOM RPG - 0.8 Global Update
A global update for ATOM RPG.
Hello, friends!
Atom Team is online with many great news. The last month was really good for development, and now you get to experience what we were making for all this time. We really hope these results will be to your liking.
In this major update, we continued to liven up Krasnoznamenny and Peregon with new NPCs and quests. We also listened to you, our dear, dear player base. You wished for an ability to leave your followers near your personal bunker. It is now possible.
You know what else is possible? Playing a true villain. Sure, you always had a chance to insult a sweet old lady, or punch a grieving father in the throat. But now, you will be able to turn the Wasteland into dust, by siding with a certain edgy new faction of freaks and weirdos from up north. Remember to save into a new slot before doing so… We promise to make the game completable with this option turned on, but before that happens it can get pretty boring walking the charred earth... On the other hand, you’ll get a lovely new follower if you join… the dark side!
But the real difference made concerns our gameplay mechanics. This part of our work really earned this update it’s name “The Global Update”. The whole system of roleplaying mechanics will grow double or even triple the moment you update. You will get tons of new skills to choose from, for yourself and your partners, including the dog.
Speaking of the dog, Dzhulbars will now get armor, pouches, leashes and even helmets he always dreamed of! Tune your mutt as you please, by giving him certain items and special skills.
This update will also add many new items, from beets to shields which have their own unique set of mechanics in battle.
Hand to hand and melee characters will no longer feel left out and weak, thanks to the new craftable weapons and skills you may choose on level-up.
And you will always have an ability to solidify your name as the Fist of the Central Wastes by working out with a barbell we created inside your bunker! Just don’t try to jump it…
In other words, the work we made was really huge. So huge, in fact, that it’s not completely finished. While you will get to play with everything mentioned above, a small segment of new dialogues and the books are still not translated completely. Some portraits are also still unfinished. But that will be fixed in a few days or so, we promise! We’re really sorry it has come to this yet again :(
Now, for the full changelog:

Thank you so much for sticking with us.
ATOM RPG - Update 0.8 & Screenshots
ATOM RPG has been updated to 0.8 and there are lots of screenshots at the link.
Hello, friends!
Work is going according to plan. We have managed to create a whole lot of new content, some of it - inspired by your very own recommendations. In this thread, we will announce the major changes that will come to the game later this month.
- Many new characters and quests - from a peaceful project, where you help an aspiring writer publish his works, to a series of battles with the future of the Wasteland at stake! New quests will not only add hours to gameplay, but will also reward you with unique new items.
- Grenades now have much more tactical uses. You will get to see the damage radius, as well as throw the grenade on an empty square, for example to hit more opponents, or make a chain explosion by targeting a flammable piece of terrain.
- A unique new follower for your party!
- Doors now can be forced with a melee attack.
- A new perk tree, filled with special abilities your character gets to pick for himself and his team mates during the game.
- We are adding shields - a piece of equipment with unique mechanics, that will add to your frontal and sideways defence.
- New random encounters you can get into while walking the world map.
- Your actions in Peregon now have consequences.
- New melee weapon recipes for crafting!
- New cinematic!
- We got a SpeedTree licence, that will help us liven up the world by making plant life better. The first results are available on a new map we added.
- Lots of bugs fixed, including the disappearing body under objects bug the community found.
- Also, we would like to give a shout out to the new Atom Wiki run by the fans of our game. Finding this place on the web was a huge surprise. Thanks a lot, guys! http://atom-rpg.wikia.com/
As you can see, we have a lot of updates this time. So much so, we even passed on the idea of making a shiny new video announcement about the changes. We hope that the screenshots we took would be enough for the time being. And now, it’s time to get back to work. Thanks you for sticking with us, friends!
Bye!

ATOM RPG - 0.7.5 - Peregon Update
ATOM RPG has a new update.
0.7.5 - Peregon Update
Hello friends!
Finally, it's time for another huge update. We're keeping up with the tempo we set early this year, to give you more content, and this version is actually the biggest one we ever made. We livened up Peregon, we added new quests that can change the Wastes forever, we added new unique NPCs, new weapons, new items, new hard choices, new interface and game play mechanics, and follow-ups for some quests you could not complete before, and it's all here, in this one update, all for your enjoyment.
One problem that will be fixed in a couple of days is the incomplete translation, but our team is working on it as fast as possible.
Hope the new content is to your liking!
Now, the total change list:
- Locations populated with new NPCs;
- 10+ large new quests;
- A secret way to get into the bunker if you're male;
- An ability to meet old friends from the Factory;
- Dog fights in Peregon call out to all spectators;
- 35+ new NPCs, like always, with unique dialogues and portraits;
- Additions to the music and sound library;
- New items, from a bra to some nice BBQ;
- New plot elements for the Myselium;
- 5 new guns to craft, from flinthlock to a pneumatic!
- As well as new bullets for one of those guns;
- Game re-balanced to meet your requests;
- Changes to the inventory; the items are now in two stacks;
- Addition of Ragdoll Physics (WIP)
- Weather effects completely overhauled, now everything is much more moody;
- The exit spots on maps are now better looking;
- Added another kind of enemies. Beware!
- Another machine gun - an old FM Minimi (trophy weapon)

- And last but not least, amazing quantity of bugs got fixed;
Thank you for beeing with us, guys! We appreciate it very
much. And... let there be ATOM!

ATOM RPG - Update 0.7.1
There is a new update for Atom RPG available, in which the player now has a base of operation.
It's May 31st, which means we need to commemorate the last day of Spring by unleashing a new update of our game world for all of you to enjoy! This time around, we livened up KRZ, by putting in some new NPCs and quests. For example, you can now visit the city hospital, which offers cure-alls to fix your radiation poisoning and help you get rid of nasty addictions. Each cure has it's price, though...
Also, as we promised on Kickstarter, the player character will finally get his own piece of the Wasteland in the form of a private house and bunker. But even though it's there, don't think you won't have to fight for it!.. The bunker's functions will broaden with each version. It will have many new features each time you update the game.
A not-so-exciting bit of new information is that due to some technical difficulties this build will have only 75% of it's new content translated properly. We will fix this with the next patch in a few days. And now, the traditional changelog:
Added two new locations filled with quests;
Updated already existing locations;
Continued the Mushroom society main quest line;
Re-balanced random encounters;
Added two new weapons - AKMS and the HK33;
Added new icons of armor and headgear;
Another companion for the player! Be careful with that guy... He has an explosive temper!
Minimaps for new locations;
You can now test your luck at the Lottery Shack!
New enemies;
Did you forget about Gulchatay? She didn't forget you!..
New (not final) battle mechanics;
New NPC portraits;
No more crashing during video playback!
Added save file deletion option;
Death in Survival is now permanent;
Fixed pathfinding while following the player character;
New weapon perks for SVD, SKS-S, R-700, PTRD;
A huge new dungeon, the Death Tunnel, crawling with new monsters and lined with intricate puzzles and memos;
New weather effects (Fog, rain);
A chance to launch a real live nuke... Into a place we all know from childhood!
New minimap zoom;
Endurance now helps you endure staggering attacks;
New sounds;
New music;
New books in the KRZ library!
Many, many bugs fixed;

ATOM RPG - Update 0.7
A major update for the ATOM RPG has been released:
0.7 Krasnoznamenny!
Dear friends!
It is time for another update of ATOM RPG! And we're not talking about bugfixes... Our April update is quite huge as it touches most aspects of the game. As soon as you update ATOM, you will be getting new quests, new characters, new stories, and new gameplay mechanics from all around. According to your wishes - part of Krasnoznamenny is now open, and many other locations are now filled with interactive content. You will also get to play the first of many backer quests we promised during our Kickstarter campaign. This time we made our good friend Rojson's ( youtube.com/user/ROJOV13 ) creation come to life in a long and arduous journey through the Wastes.
Working on this update took most of the last two months and we really hope that you guys will like it. Please, share your opinions and caught bugs on our Steam page. But speaking of bugs - this time we won't be able to fix them before next week, since on April 21st, our whole team (plus a very special Backer) is moving out to Chernobyl! As you can remember, this was one of the top-tier rewards on our Kickstarter page. We're also doing it to catch some glimpses of a true post-nuclear landscape. This will surely help us make the game better in the long run, and once we're back those bugs won't stand a chance! As for the time while we're gone - check on the progress of our adventure using the social media of your choice:

ATOM RPG - Update 0.6.6
ATOM RPG got a major update:
Update 0.6.6
Hey guys! Like promised - here's the fresh update! Thank you very much for the long wait. We hope the amount of work we done this time won't disappoint. Now, without further delays, the change log:
We'll start off with the changes to gameplay everyone will notice just by spending time in game (some of the changes, sadly enough will be visible if you start a new game):
- 10 new quests;
- 26 new characters;
- 10 character traits, that can be picked upon creating your character (more to come later);
- New modes: from Easy to Iron Man;
- New weapons, including the legendary AS VAL and a crossbow;
- New ammo types;
- Two new companions for your character. Finding one of them, though, won't be a walk in the park...
- New items - from perfumes to helmets;
- New crafting recipes - you can also make firearms now, no need to start your tinkering career with knives and hand to hand combat...
Huge amounts of work were also done in the background. You might not notice these changes quickly, but it is thanks to them you can really immerse yourself into our game world:
- Updated most models;
- Added new sounds;
- Added new cinematic video;
- Added new animations for friends and foes;
- New AI - the NPCs now use team work, to find the best way for an attack. Now if an NPC is blocking another NPC's shooting path - it will seriously change the aiming formula, so they will try to avoid such situations;
- Global map improved, fog of war added;
- Mini-map corrected;
- Save-load menu improved;
- Game balance fully improved: from items and rewards to weapons and random encounters;
- New icons added for characters, followers, new items, etc.
- Many, many, many, many, many bugs fixed.

ATOM RPG - Update on Progress
ATOM RPG has an update about an update.
Latest news about the update
Hey, guys!
With great regret, we have to state, that as January comes to a close, we are sensing that we won't be able to deliver the new planned update on time more and more. For this, we would really like to apologize. There is no need to worry about the future of the game, though. We're late not because of some problems, or because of lack of dedication. We simply miscalculated when we predicted the work will be over in January. Something that looks easily done "on paper" needs a lot of trial and error to actually implement. Therefore, to avoid accidentally misleading you again, and to get some breathing room for testing and tweaking the changes we made for the game, we shift the release date of the major update to February 28th. We're really sorry for this, and we promise to be less idealistic in future release date calculations.
To at least start making it up to you, we finally compiled a full, comprehensible list of changes ahead. It going to be a long one, since despite this date mix-up, January was actually one of the most productive months for the project.
Let's start with one of the larger and complex additions, which actually made us lag for a bit: a new NPC follower! He really turned out to be one of these "easy on paper hard in real life" kinds of things, but we still mostly made him! He's an infiltration agent named Fidel, and he will join you, boasting a better AI system, which now should recognize that it's a part of a larger team and act accordingly. Fidel will also know when to shoot and when to use melee. There are also thoughts of a second, four--legged companion we might just make to make it up to you for the late update.
You should also prepare for:
* More than 20 new NPCs, each one, as tradition goes, with a unique portrait, skill set, and dialogue.
* New quests - because how can you go without them? We'll have everything - from talk-quests localized to one individual, to a huge b-movie plot epic, that will make you run around the global map, adding grizzled mercenaries to your team for a last battle for what is right!..
* The factory quest line will finally see it's end. Ever wondered what will happen, once the bandits use your services enough times? Well wonder no more!
Also, just to prove that ATOM has the best audience, we're adding a ton of little objects and features, that were first thought of by our Steam commenters, or inspired by the ideas some of the backers shared on the forums.
Some of the minor tweaks are:
* Weapons will now have perks. For example, knives get a chance to go between chinks in armor, dealing raw damage, sniper rifles get a long range bonus, but lose most usability in CQC, etc.
* Crippling blows! Aimed shots now get to have special effects like blinding, slowing down, disarming and otherwise incapacitating opponents.
* New ammo types that will use the new damage/penetration formulas.
* New kinds of armors and clothes
* New usable items, most of them inspired by the players, like the "Krasnaya Moskva" deodorant.
* New maps and map variants for random encounters.
* Balance improved for: items, weapons, consumables, random encounters, crafting.
* New craft recipes inspired by the forums.
* New animations for the NPCs. The little fellows will not just react to new traumatic experiences that the aimed shot overhaul brings forth. They will also do more daily activities, and not just mope around. Remember The Fall? We really want to make daily cycles for the NPCs just like it was in that good old game.
* A much larger sound library! More sounds for everything!
Thank you for waiting, we really hope the result won't disappoint.
Best regards, ATOM TEAM.

ATOM RPG - Early Access Preview
The Cliqist tried the Early Access version of ATOM RPG:
Atom RPG | Early Access Preview
loading...Atom RPG hopes to rekindle what made the original Fallout games so great, but does it succeed?
ATOM RPG - Preview @ Cliqist
The Cliqist checked out the ATOM RPG:
Nostalgia Bait Sucks, Except When Atom RPG Brings Back The Real Fallout
If there’s two things I hate in the gaming industry today that everyone else loves, it’s Bethesda and nostalgia. Bethesda has a long record of suing indie developers over spurious copyright claims while pretending to be the victim. Meanwhile they’ve been ruining Fallout and The Elder Scrolls with bland, boring, and two dimensional gameplay and have somehow convinced people they’re still great. And let’s not forget their refusal to work with video game critics, refusing to send out review copies ahead of time so that pre-orderers don’t cancel when critics rake their games of the coals.
And nostalgia. Nostalgia has become a crutch for modern indie game development. Can’t art? Don’t hire an artist, just draw some squares and call it pixel art! Can’t music? Just bang some pots and pans together, record it with a dollar store microphone, and call it classic 8-bit music! Don’t know how to gameplay? Just make a 2D platformer and call it a fan-made, spiritual successor to Boogerman and people won’t be able to pay you fast enough.
Humph, I say.

ATOM RPG - Kickstarter Update
The ATOM RPG gets better and better:
STATUS UPDATE #5
Hey, guys!
It's update time!
Now, first of all, soon (September 5-15) we will start sending keys for the Steam early access. The early access version will come out approximately in October-November. If you don't have a Steam account - don't worry! You will receive a download link!
[...]
In the last update we told you about the new dialogues (as well as new look) for the Waste dwellers. But we missed one essential part the gives them even more uniqueness! Their portraits!
This is just a little sneak peak and not all of the new characters! :) Some of these guys visit certain locations at the certain time of the day, some you can meet at any time... But everyone of them has a history and something interesting to tell you!
All sorts of improvements
We added a lot of smaller improvements to the game! All of them were requested by the players.
Now the traders in the world are finally renewing their stock! It doesn't sound all that important, but this improvement gave the game a lot more polished feel!
Second, the weapons now have a somewhat realistic ballistic system! For example, you are shooting in a large group of foes! Before, if you missed nothing would happen. The bullet would just magically disappear. That's not the case no more!

ATOM RPG - Kickstarter live
The Kickstarter campaign for the postapocalyptic RPG ATOM has started:
The deterioration in relations between Eastern and Western blocs in the 1979 has led to a full-blown Armageddon between nuclear powers in the year 1986. The War was swift, devastating and brutal… The fact that humanity persevered was miraculous.
Nineteen years have passed and it’s 2005. Both once great Empires and their allies now lie in ruins, but on top of those ruins new civilizations are slowly emerging...
This story takes place on a small patch of land in the south part of the USSR where you take the role of an undercover operative from a secret bunker society called ATOM... Your mission is to find any traces of an expedition that recently stopped contacting the main base...
ATOM is a passion project. It will be finished no matter what. But, with your help we will be able to do it much faster, as well as add more interesting content to the final game! But we don't want to make unsubstantiated statements so feel free to download the latest build and check out ATOM for yourself! Thank you for your attention!
loading...
Features:
Nonlinearity: ATOM is an open world role-playing game! You are not going through a corridor, you are investigating a mystery. And this could be achieved in numerous ways. There are no artificial boundaries in the world of ATOM. Oh, and there are no "essential characters" in the game. So everybody is a "fair game" ;)
Characters: There will be more than 300 characters in the game. ALL of them with their unique personalities, portraits and dialogues!
Encounters and Quests: There are numerous side missions, hidden adventure-like puzzles and secrets scattered around the Wastes. Even the smallest tasks can lead to a big and intricate side story, open some details about the world or somehow interconnect with the main quest! And of course, like in every self-respecting RPG there's always more than one way of dealing with them.
Combat: A turn-based combat system isn't just a nod to the legendary generation of CRPGs. For us, it's also an aesthetic choice. What's the point of combat, when you can't enjoy your every thought-through move, your every step, shot or punch? What's the point of victory, when it wasn't precisely planned in a cunning strategic move?
Weapons and Items: There will be more than 30 available weapons in the full version of the game. Soviet weaponry, makeshift shivs and guns as well as some secret weapons from the Western bloc the existence of which in the game world will be neatly tied to the lore!
