Wizard Worm checked out the upcoming Age of Grit:

Age of Grit Review - Wild West, Steampunk, Firefly and CRPG? (Turn-Based Combat)

Adventure across a Wild West world in a rickety, steampunk airship! Inspired by the likes of Firefly and the classic CRPGs of old in Age of Grit. Very unusual cowboy steampunk setting with Turn-Based Combat. The game is very atmospheric and I really liked it.

Age of Grit - State of the Game

by Silver, Sunday - April 11, 2021 09:18

An update from the end of January for Age of Grit announced the current state of the game which is on the road to 1.0.

State of the Game and Changelog for New Update

State of the Game

Hope everyone is doing well! Just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on how things are going. If you're not aware, for some time now our team has had just one member--me! But I've been doing my best to finish things up on my own and we're now getting mighty close to v1.0 and a full launch of Age of Grit!

What we really need most right now is game testers. There's only so much useful testing I can do--at this point the entire game just looks like falling green Matrix code to me. If you'd like to help out please contact me directly at andy@iqsoup.com. And for everyone out there: any feedback (positive or negative) you can provide would be extremely useful. Like seriously super useful and helpful! The game has a built in bug reporter (press F12) so you can easily send us feedback any time you're playing the game.

By the way: Age of Grit is on sale for the rest of the week. Please tell your friends!

Age of Grit - Kickstarter 2.0

by Hiddenx, Thursday - September 14, 2017 08:46

A second Kickstarter campaign for Age of Grit has been started:

loading...

[...]

We previously held a crowdfunding campaign here on Kickstarter and were overwhelmed with the support we received from the community!  We were incredibly grateful to raise over $15,000. Just as importantly: to receive so much support really gave us the confidence to continue with our vision for AOG.

With the money we raised we've done a lot and now have built a working prototype of the game. Most of the art assets are complete and all of the game's major systems are functioning. However it has become clear that in order to make AOG the polished experience it deserves to be--and do so in a timely matter--we will need further funding.  We've discussed this with our original backers and the feedback we received was extremely supportive.

One way or another this game is going to get finished, but with additional funding our team will be able to devote a lot more time to the project--less need for other jobs and side gigs.  We'll also be able to hire on a few more people and get everything wrapped up much faster.

We turn to the Kickstarter community once again for this final round of crowdfunding. Thank you all for your support and for believing in Age of Grit!

Age of Grit - New Development Update

by Couchpotato, Saturday - February 28, 2015 05:32

iqSoup's latest update for Age of Grit explains what the developer has been working on in the last few months since they posted the last kickstarter update.

We've been pretty busy over here and have made a lot of progress!  Age of Grit is gradually starting to coalesce. A big chunk of the game's back-end systems has been taken care of. The dialog system is working well and the questing system should be finished very soon. These are two critical systems that lay the groundwork for much of the game's complexity. We are also making strides forward with the combat sequence.  The combat UI is underway and the ruleset has been fleshed out and is being fine tuned.  We'e implemented the system for building ships from within the game--which is important for the modular design we are going with for the airships.

We're also hard at work on NPCs. We've finished a bunch of NPCs already and we're chipping away at more each day. I spent much of the last week or two finishing up all the NPC briefing documents. The art team uses these documents to create the artwork needed for each NPC. Usually I will try to finish the briefing docs as they are needed by the art team, but now they are all completed for all the NPCs in the entire game. This a huge milestone--there are hundreds upon hundreds of in-game NPCs that I needed to write out detailed descriptions for. It is one of the major writing tasks on my plate, finishing it means I can now focus more time on other areas of the game.

Our Backerkit fundraising campaign will soon be coming to an end.  We haven't seen as much success as we've expected, but perhaps that's because our main push was during the last few months when the crowfunding season typically tends to slow down.  Next week we are going to give it one last push to try to raise some extra funds through add-ons and preorders. All of you have already done so much and we're so incredibly grateful, but if you'd like please check out some of our add-ons and see if you're interested.  We'd greatly appreciate it and every dollar help make the game a bit better.  All funds raised through Backerkit will go towards more artwork for the game--predominately more airships designs.

Age of Grit - Post-Funding Update #20

by Couchpotato, Sunday - December 21, 2014 04:54

Developer iqSoup posted a new kickstarter update with more infomation on the development of Age of Grit. The update focuses on the games airship this time.

Age of Grit is gradually beginning to coalesce. We are focusing the brunt of our efforts on the combat sequence. Things are coming along nicely and we should have a good battle demo to show off early 2015. We're doing a redesign of the battle UI, reworking things to be more intuitive and just generally more awesome.

The battle mechanics under the hood are taking shape as well. From a while now we've had a rough outline for how we wanted the combat rules to work, but now we're getting into the nitty gritty.  It means a of testing and tweaking to make sure battles feel just right.  Everything needs to be weighted and balanced properly.  For a bit of research I've personally been playing some Fallout 2 recently. A great classic, but a lot of people complain about the combat.  It can be a clunky system for sure, but I for one always liked the intensely strategic feel it had.  You carefully calculate every action, considering a whole host of factors.  One misstep and you might accidentally blow off your buddy's head with a burst of machine gun fire.I think there's a lot to learn from the early CRPGs and just classic games in general--both from the things they do well and the areas in which they could have improved.

We have some great airship assets we've been cooking up! This is my favorite part of game development--seeing cool new stuff like this when I check my email in the morning!  Here's a couple ships we hope you'll enjoy.

Age of Grit - Villains Update

by Couchpotato, Thursday - October 16, 2014 07:39

The latest kickstarter update for Age of Grit has more information about Villains.

Hey everyone! I hope all is well! We are hard at work at Age of Grit and things are coming along quite nicely. It's a lot of work but we're having a blast!

We will be sending out Backerkit surveys next week. It will be a fairly simple survey we'll use confirm your reward level and gather some of the information we'll need to fulfill your rewards. For example, the survey will request shipping addresses from those who selected tiers physical rewards. You'll also get a chance to upgrade your pledge to a higher tier or select add ons for extra bonus rewards. Some of the add ons are really quite fun--I think a lot of you will really like them! If you missed our last minute add on (the ability to name an in-game manufacturer) it will be available through Backerkit as well!

We are still counting all additional funds raised towards our stretch goals. We have had some generous Paypal donations and we're just coming up on our next goal at $16K. With a little help from some of you I think we'll be able to soar past that $16K goal!  That means cut scenes for Age of Grit! Thanks again to all of you for all the support!

Age of Grit - First Stretch Goal Achieved

by Couchpotato, Thursday - September 25, 2014 03:00

I have another update to share the week for Age of Grit, and this time it's good news. The game has received enough funding to pass it's first stretch goal for personal gear.

We've reached our first stretch goal! Yeeeeehaw!!!  A BIG thanks to all of you for making it happen!  Age of Grit will now feature personal gear--for your captain and crew to wear or use in the game.  We're talking hats (from cowboy to top), walking sticks, six shooters, and even cool steampunk monocles!  Items will have various in-game buffs and effects.

Our next stretch goal is at $16,000.  At that funding level we'll be able to include comic book style cut scenes!  This would be awesome to have! It would allow us to include some really sweet scenes.  The old classic western films were great for their epic, cinematic moments--with cut scenes we could bring some of the magic of those old westerns into Age of Grit!

We still have time--we can make it happen!

Age of Grit - Call to Arms Update

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - September 24, 2014 01:19

Age of Grit is nearing the end of it's campaign, and has new update to help raise more money from the developer iqSoup. So if you still haven't checked it out do so now.

Battle stations everyone!  Our campaign seems to be a little low on steam! Typically a Kickstarter campaign will see a huge surge in activity during the last week or so of the campaign, and certainly during the last 3 or 4 days.  However today was one of our slowest days yet.  :(  For whatever reason we're just not seeing the surge we had hoped for. We're grateful for all your support thus far and ecstatic Age of Grit is funded!  But we're all still hoping to hit some of our stretch goals and we need your help!

It's time to stoke the broiler--get this engine really roaring!  I'm talking the end of Back to the Future 3 special Doc Brown dynamite fuel levels!  So here's your call to arms if you choose to accept it: each of you please click here to tweet about the campaign on Twitter or here to make a post on Facebook. And that's it--we're just asking for one post from each of our supporters. I think it'll make all the difference and we'll see a big surge these last couple of days!

We appreciate each and every one of you!  We're SO grateful for all your support and for being a integral part of Age of Grit!

Age of Grit - Successfully Funded

by Couchpotato, Friday - September 19, 2014 02:03

The Age of Grit kickstarter was successfully funded with one week left to go, and the games developer iqSoup posted a new update with more information.

WE DID IT!!!  Age of Grit is now funded!  Just moments ago we surpassed the 100% mark of our base funding goal!

Thank you all SO MUCH for your pledges and support!  I can't express our appreciation for every single one of you!  Age of Grit has been my dream--it's incredible that it's now the dream of at least 442 other people as well!  Thank you thank you thank you!!!

But there's still progress left to be made--we have seven days remaining and we want to hit as many of our stretch goals as possible.  Please help--keep spreading the word and sharing the campaign everywhere you can.  A lot can still happen in seven days!  :D

Our first stretch goal is at $14,000 and is for personal gear in the game.  Currently all the in-game loot applies to your airship (guns, engines, sensors etc.) but at this stretch goal we'll also include gear that your characters could wear and use in the game--hats, brown cowboy coats, sidearms and such.  Items will offer various in-game buffs or abilities.  I know all of you believe in Age of Grit--let's smash past this goal and then race on to the next one!

The Age of Grit art contest still has a few days left--the deadline ends 11:59 PM (EST) this Friday.  We've had some truly outstanding entries thus far but the more the merrier so keep sending in your entries!

Age of Grit - A Big Push for 100%

by Couchpotato, Saturday - September 13, 2014 03:54

The next update for Age of Grit has news on funding, and a new Art contest. The game made $10,347 of the $12,000 goal with thirteen days left in the campaign.

We're making a big push to reach 100% funded by the end of the week!!!  We are doing great--just a little further and then its on to stretch goals!  Please do what you can to help push us past the 100% mark.

A really BIG thank you goes out to each one of you for your pledge, your support, and for spreading the word.

Sadly, we've seen very little response to our art contest!  The entries we've received have been really great, but there's only been a small handful of submissions thus far.  Sad face.  Consequently we are pushing the contest deadline back until the end of Friday, September 19th in the hopes that we'll see a few more entries over the course of another week.

Please submit any fan art you can scrounge up!  Don't be shy--we are desperate here!  Your entry doesn't have to be the Mona Lisa--just have fun! Remember, the grand prize is a gift card for $100!  You can get a lot with $100!  We will be judging the entries using creativity as the primary criteria.

The following would all be acceptable entries:
-simple doodles of airship designs on the back of a napkin
-real life landscape photographs (a cool desert or cowboy-looking shot)
-a clever wanted poster with some creative text
-a crayon drawing of a steampunk cowboy town
-a Lego steampunk creation
-ANYTHING clever, creative, or just pertty relating to steampunk, cowboys, or the general setting of Age of Grit.  The only rule is you just have to be the actual creator of your piece.

Age of Grit - The Stronghold Update

by Couchpotato, Saturday - August 30, 2014 06:23

The latest kickstarter update for Age of Grit from developer iqSoup has a quick update on the projects status, and talks about the  stronghold.

We're making a big push to get Age of Grit to the 50% mark! Please keep sharing the campaign--post on Facebook, Twitter, and wherever you can! We greatly appreciate all the support!

Shortly we'll be hold an Age of Grit art/photo contest! It should be a lot of fun so stay tuned for that!

Thanks to all of you the AOG Greenlight campaign is doing quite well! It's still an uphill battle (we're competing with thousands of other games) but things are looking optimistic. If you haven't done so yet, hop on over to Greenlight and give Age of Grit a big YES vote!

Rather than meeting a new AOG character, today we'll be visiting one of the many towns of The West: The Stronghold.

Nestled in the west mountains of the Guild Lands, The Stronghold is an underground city built inside an immense, hollowed out section of Mount Redemption. For over a century this site has been one of the largest producers of coal in The West. All day every day the cavern floor is crowded with pick-axe wielding miners and steam-powered digging machines of all shapes and sizes. Every so often one hears the deafening BOOM of dynamite blasting through a stubborn section of rock. Add to that the incessant din of metal striking rock, engines roaring, drills boring into the earth--it's enough to drive one mad.

The upper portion of the cavern is usually swarming with airships flying about. Built around the entire inner rim is a docking ring where ships can land, load up with coal, and disembark. The city itself--housing units, stores, saloons and such--is a spiderweb of smaller tunnels that start at the docking ring and stretch out deep into the heart of the mountain.

Age of Grit - Status Report Update

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - August 27, 2014 06:05

There have been two updates from developer iqSoup posted in the last week for Age of Gri. So far the game has earned $4,851 of the $12,000 with thirty days left.

We are now ONE THIRD funded!!!  Yeeeehaw!!!  Thank you for all the support!  We still have the last two thirds to go so keep spreading the word!  Also, if you haven't yet, make sure to LIKE us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

As of this morning Age of Grit is on Steam Greenlight!  Getting Age of Grit on Steam is arguably just as important to its ultimate success as getting fully funded here on Kickstarter.  So please head on over to the AOG Greenlight page and smash that YES button--it should only take about 30 seconds.

Age of Grit has also been selected as a Kickstarter Staff Pick!!!  This is a great honor and should help the campaign get some attention.  Thanks Kickstarter staff!

Age of Grit - A Cowboy Steampunk RPG

by Couchpotato, Monday - August 25, 2014 05:37

Age of Grit is a new Cowboy Steampunk RPG kickstarter from a small developer called iqSoup, and they are asking for $12,000 with thirty two days left.

In Age of Grit, you play the captain of a steampunk airship adventuring across a cowboy inspired fantasy world! AOG is a strategic RPG with a heavy emphasis on meaningful dialog and rich story. The game features fully upgradeable ship components, a novel combat system, and a crew you can level up via detailed progression elements. The ship's crew are smugglers running various jobs just to scrape by--kind of think Firefly you'll be living aboard a steampunk airship rather than a spaceship flying to cowboy towns rather than planets.
