Vagrus: The Riven Realms - Obedience and Unrest Machines

by Myrthos, Monday - December 23, 2019 18:47

In the 28th developers blog for Vagrus, there is talk about the obedience stat, to keep your slaves in check and the unrest mechanic.

Obedience is a stat describing how disciplined (or disgruntled) the slaves owned by the comitatus are at a given time. It was implemented to give a rather fluid drawback to owning slaves: they might provide a free workforce but keeping men and women enslaved does have its risks even if it is 'part of the system'. You typically lose Obedience if you do not guard your slaves well enough (too few fighters to look after them), if you get or buy a lot of new slaves, if you do not feed them enough, if you arm them in Crew Combat, or keep choosing options in Events that endanger or embolden them.

With a high Obedience, your slaves over-perform and you can end up with some small surprise Events (with a positive outcome). This is in addition to the fact that you won't get a headache thinking about what can go wrong.

Low Obedience is where it all goes from bad to worse. Slaves start to steal, escape their bonds, or even commit more serious crimes. You can try to punish all the slaves in this case in the hopes of raising Obedience but it can backfire.

So how can you keep slaves in check? Well, a thoughtful vagrus might consider liberating slaves from time to time, which raises the Obedience of others to a great extent - if there is a chance of becoming free, they will work more diligently towards it. Nevertheless, it is a very expensive route to take, as slaves cost a lot of coin. Then there is the Deputy role of Slavemaster, who generates Obedience, making a critically low score very unlikely (and also can punish unruly slaves more reliably). Some equipment also has similar effects. Additionally, certain Events can positively affect Obedience and it behooves you to pay attention to those.

There is also a video:

Also their Fig crowdfunding campaign is still going on.

Exoplanet: First Contact - Dev Blog #3

by Myrthos, Monday - December 23, 2019 18:44

A new developers blog for Exoplanet: First Contact has been made available, talking about a world of players website for the game and what they changed in the tutorial and it comes with many images.

As I have said many times before, we are not satisfied with the starting area and intending to create a new location with a brand new tutorial. And today I am going to show you some results because this dev blog is about our work in progress in this area.

...

We've created a set of 60 pieces brand new rocks inspired by Shadow of the Colossus remake for PS4 with some help from the lead environment artist of this project (you can learn more about it in our previous dev blog), a lot of new grass, improved the engine with new tools and features and completely reworked the original idea of the location.

...

The new location is 500m², it’s a godforsaken place confined between the desert and rocks with an old aboriginal cemetery and an abandoned mine.

Underrail - Interview with Dejan Radisic

by Silver, Sunday - December 22, 2019 00:34

TheGG interviewed Dejan Radisic, who developed Underrail, and asked him about development and what he is planning.

Nenad
A lot of people say that Underrail is hard, sometimes even too hard. Did you plan to make a game like this, and do you think the games today are too easy?

Dejan
I don’t necessarily agree with the notion that Underrail is hard, and would say that it requires the player to be involved and pay attention. Once the player is familiarized with the game mechanics and weapons at hand, the game gets a lot easier.

Since the game expects the player to make the effort and pay attention, it can look too hard for new players.

When it comes to today’s games generally, I think we have a wide variety of games, thanks to digital distribution, especially when it comes to “niche” games. I think that people today have no problem, finding the games that they find hard or challenging.

Stygian - Major Update December 19th

by Silver, Sunday - December 15, 2019 11:38
A major update for Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones will release December 19th.

Major Update will be out on December 19th!

Greetings Brethren!

We know that you’ve been waiting for the final ritual that will alleviate “Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones” like the sunken city of R’lyeh rising from the depths of the oceans.

This blackest event will occur on the 19th of this month. At the time of the accursed Yuletide festival, you, the owners of Stygian, will be downloading the brand new Patch 1.1. Before discussing more about what will be fixed and improved with this event of celestial importance, we have some announcements to make.

Be warned! Only your latest Autosave and Story Save slots will be preserved by the new save system which enables Character Profiles and manual saving functionality. You better get prepared!

For the sake of stability and general balancing, we have removed Spell Enhancements from the upcoming build. The final scope of the game was making the enhanced spells either overpowered or unachievable. We also wanted to eliminate the bugs connected to the system. We will consider the re-implementation of the system again in the future.

The following achievements will become obsolete with the release of 1.1 Update:

  • Spell Doctor
  • Surgeon
  • Martyr

Without further ado, here’s a list of New Features and Major Overhauls that will be present in 1.1:

  • A Tutorial System that explains all the core and subsidiary systems of the game.
  • Considerably increased Combat Speed
  • Character Profiles
  • Manual Saving and Quick Saving
  • Combat Hit Probability Indicator to screen your to hit chance in battle scenarios

Along with hundreds of Bug Fixes and Improvements including issues encountered in problematic areas such as Blasted Street, Ward 10, a variety of crashes, situations carried in between different save files, Panic State malfunctions, Light and Darkness mechanics, Rest and Crafting Mechanics, Perk and Item functionality and much more!

As you can see, we haven’t been resting. Instead, we’ve prayed to the Old Ones, day and night in all the forgotten, old tongues and cried out for a better, smoother Stygian experience. We also worked. Really hard…

Until we meet again in a desolate corner of the doomed Arkham on 19th of December.

Corven - Path of Redemption - Lord British Officially in Corven

by Silver, Tuesday - December 10, 2019 20:50

Lord British will be apart of the storyline for  Corven - Path of Redemption.

Lord British, the King of Britannia from the Ultima series and the alter ego of Ultima creator Richard Garriott, will officially be in Corven!

After reading my story outline for Lord British in Corven, Richard Garriott was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to have a brainstorming session with me to further refine this part of the Corven storyline. Once we were happy with the result, he officially agreed to have the Lord British character in Corven!

Lord British will not just be a gimmick in Corven, but will play an essential role in the main storyline.

I would love to tell you more details about the story, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. I might be biased, but I have to say, the story is amazing and it will translate into an amazing game.

I can also honestly say that Richard Garriott’s keen sense for an exciting CRPG plot is incredible and it was a pleasure to have this brainstorming session with him.

Now it is up to us to turn this plot into a compelling game.

Richard Garriott agreed to have additional brainstorming sessions in the future, so you can be sure that Corven will have a storyline worthy of an Ultima.

So all you classic CRPG fans out there, and especially all you dear Ultima fans, Corven is now the closest thing to a new single player Ultima game that you can get in the near future. Stay tuned and please support us in the upcoming Kickstarter so we can make all this a reality.

Development is on track for the release of the fully playable demo in spring 2020 and the Kickstarter will begin at the same time!

Please spread the word about Corven! It’s difficult to get the word out as small indie team and we rely on you for word of mouth support.

THANK YOU!

Thanks Farflame!

Brigand: Oaxaca - Community Pack DLC released

by Hiddenx, Monday - December 09, 2019 20:23

Version 6.2B of Brigand: Oaxaca - a community pack DLC - has been released:

Version 6.2B, Community Pack DLC

Minor update, free Community Pack DLC now working
Finally got the free Community Pack DLC working properly. It's an extra 500 mb, but it includes hi-resolution character skins for both the original and the Panama DLC (from Jack Mangano), as well as improved gun sound effects (from FedSmoker). I'm hoping there will eventually be some gameplay mods, challenge maps, or even a whole new story, but the world editor is not yet the user-friendliest. I'll work on the world editor in future patches.

There is also a new patch for the original and Panama. Here's a complete list of fixes:

SOURCE CODE:
-AI now randomly rotates if there's nothing else to do (making player's Stealth skill more important).
-Script command "StopAllSound" now stops every sound effect if there is no parameter.

SCRIPTS:
-UB Elite Inspectors now spawn in Pochutla and Loma Larga if UBNS takes over (and search player for contraband).
-(PANAMA) Voices now stop when new character talks during cut scenes.
-(PANAMA) Mabel now surrenders in DAM script as well as AI script.

RESOURCES:
-Fixed hi-res character textures and gun sound effects for Community Content DLC.

Edge Of Eternity - 2020 Roadmap

by Hiddenx, Monday - December 09, 2019 19:17

Here's the roadmap for Edge of Eternity:

Edge Of Eternity roadmap for 2020! Coming with a 25% off sale!
Discover what's coming in 2020 for Edge Of Eternity!

The past weeks have been quite productive for us. In November we released the Chapter IV, that was our most ambitious chapter so far and last week we celebrated the Early Access anniversary.

As promised, we now want to share with you our plans for the upcoming months. As we did for the Early Access launch, we’d like to share a small visual impression of our journey: [...]

As you can see, with Chapter IV we made it to the halfway point of the Early Access!
At Midgar Studio, the team really feels that Edge Of Eternity has stepped up recently with this release. The game has now 25 hours of solid content. If you were hesitating we are pretty confident to say that now is a good time to join us in Heryon! ;)

And there’s even more to come. Let’s have a look at the next steps:

Chapter 0 : January 2020

This update will be quite unique. It will not provide you with the continuation of Daryon’s adventure as you are used to with every chapter so far. This update will focus on reworking the early hours of the game.
For newcomers, it will mean a brand new tutorial & new introduction to the game. For current players we strongly recommend to start another save for a bit for you to know about Daryon’s past (and come back later to your current save). This part will offer a quite interesting (as we hope) narrative introduction to the game.

Chapter 5 : March 2020

We’ll be back on the main story line and introduce you to a new character. You will also be invited to venture into a new dungeon.
This update will also invite you to return to previously visited locations that will offer many new quests and an increased difficulty level.

Chapter 6 : June 2020

Daryon’s fellowship will continue its adventure in new Desert and Volcano areas. Along with a new turn of events in the main story, this update will focus on special personal quests for the main characters. A way to find out about their backstories and motivations in this very damaged world.

And with Chapter VI we should be able to release our most anticipated “Nekaroo Farm” !

Chapter 7 : September 2020

Late 2020 / game release
The release of the game will come with a final massive update.

As you can see we have still a lot to come. It will be a long a very productive year and we are all committed to release the full game before the end of next year.
We have many surprises to come. Things we’ve been working on for a while as well as fresh new additions we want to make to the game based on your feedbacks.

Keep on telling us what you like or dislike in Edge of Eternity. It’s a real fuel for making the game and we cannot value more the players message we receive.
And again we would like to thank you all for the incredible benevolence you have towards us.

Don't forget that the game is also on sale with 25% off until next week (December 16th) if you don't have the game yet :) Thanks for reading & see you soon in Heryon!

Odd Gods - Interview @Turn Based Lovers

by Silver, Saturday - December 07, 2019 21:11

The devs of Odd Gods were interviewed by Turn Based Lovers.

2nd Turn) Odd Gods comes out of the usual patterns of role-playing games, no dragons or knights, but only teenagers from the 90s who travel through time. How come to this choice? Have you been influenced by something in particular?

The best CRPGs, I think, transport you and immerse you – and the 90s was a very influential period for me – it existed at a strange point in time, caught between the end of the analogue era, and the dawn of the digital one. Music was the dominant medium – not the net. What you listened to, how it made you feel, and why – it’s more than drugs, sex & rock and roll – although the 90s had plenty of that. Music spawned subcultures, with their own myths, dialects, rituals & societies. It’s was a weird time – like a mirage world you thought you saw through a drug haze in that weird soft light that could be dawn or dusk. That anachronism is ripe for a crack at a time travel RPG if you ask me.

Music, as much as Time Bandits, influenced the space-time travel aspect of Odd Gods. Have you ever listened to a song and felt time stand still? Or heard a guitar riff and felt like you could almost travel through time to when you first heard that melody?

My first RPG – in fact, my first computer game ever – was Ultima IV Quest of the Avatar, played on an Apple ][e. That game spoiled me forever – and I compare everything else to it. Odd Gods is a kind of cultish, satirical, and wild homage to Ultima, and the culture, games, music, books and cinema I have lived & loved: Ultima, Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment, Time Bandits, American Gods – the list goes on and on.

The combat system is a unique (as fast as I know at the time of writing) ‘Same Phase’ system – I’ll go into detail in a question or two, but its influences are: the genius in simplicity of Napoleonic era tabletop wargames, the rhythm & equipment archetypes in Dark Souls, Fallout 1 & 2, the battlefield tactics of Gold Box games and yes – X-Com/Fire Emblem/Ultima/Baldurs Gate… The adaptation of strategy games and RPG system goes back a long way, but with OG’s system, I believe we’ve found something very special.

Unsung Story - December Update

by Myrthos, Monday - December 02, 2019 11:46

Development on Unsung Story is continuing again.

We finally got far enough ahead to transition some members of the Unsung Story team back into development this month. With the late Thanksgiving this year, November ended up being 1 week shorter for the team, but we did get a full week before the break to jump back in.

To kick things off we did a full review of progress from where we left off with a focus on the Chapter 1 MVP.

The initial roadmap for the next couple months includes:

  • Finish implementing all the environment art for Levels 1 - 7. This involves swapping out elements of our whitebox levels to transfer gameplay functionality to the finished art versions.
  • UI review to identify and prioritize the design and implementation of the remaining screens such as Main Menu, Main Map, Chapter Map, Character Details, Equipment Management, Victory Screen, Vendor Menu, Options Menu, Party Management, Unit Customization, Job Selection/Review, Unit Recruitment
  • Design review to identify and prioritize the few remaining systems we need to finish such as Equipment/Itemization, Unit Recruitment including random generation of stats/appearance, Cosmetic/appearance unlocks, Job progression/unlocks, Artifact (lore) items, and Skill mastery details.
  • Engineering review to breakdown the existing systems and schedule resources to implement the design deliverables for new systems so designers can load the game data.
  • Technical art review to go over skyboxes, weather/time of day, camera occlusion, vfx, animation, unit item socket system for weapons, and post processing.
  • Art review to identify missing Player unit models, Story character models, creature models, vendor models, icons, etc.
  • Story review for cutscenes and dialog.

NOTE: It looks like we accidentally included the Sharpshooter in our original MVP scope, but that job is a bit too far down the job tree. Some adjustments will be made.

I also want to acknowledge some of backer comments about Industry Crunch. Little Orbit does try to avoid longer working hours where ever possible. Many of my employees have been with us for more than 10 years, and I think of them as extended family. For this month, we were able to scale back to regular hours for the bulk of the team.

Everyone has expressed their excitement to be back and even some frustration with the short amount of time to work on Unsung during November. But on behalf of the entire team, we appreciate your patience and support, and I hope all the backers got a nice holiday break.

The Last Spell - Dev Blog 6: Hero Stats

by Silver, Sunday - December 01, 2019 19:59

The latest dev blog for The Last Spell looks at Hero Stats.

Heroes Stats

You like numbers, right?
Hello survivors!

We’re back! It’s almost December, and we’re slowly getting closer to the release of The Last Spell!

Today we’ll take a closer look on how we designed the overall system which drives our characters in their fight against the hordes of evil. We wanted to make something that would be:

  • not TOO complicated, so that the player instantly understands most of the concepts.
  • BUT with enough depth so that we can make interesting bonuses in our perks, items, etc…

In fact we actually already re-worked this particular system twice since we started thinking about The Last Spell! Right now we have come up with something that seems to be working pretty well on paper. We still have to playtest it in our next prototype, but we are pretty confident it should do the trick.

Characters

So our characters have several components that define them:
  • Attributes: that’s the basic stats of the heroes.
  • Traits: bonus features that can modify Attributes and even some more advanced things.
  • Perks: level-up bonuses with passive abilities.
  • Skills: active abilities of the heroes that you can use to make actions, in battle or in-between.

The skills overall come from the equiped items, and mostly from the weapons, so I’ll talk about it in another blog post ;).

The Perks and Traits are more advanced features, so today I’ll mostly be talking about the Attributes of the characters.

They are divided into 3 groups:

Basics:
  • Health: pretty basic, when it reaches 0 the character dies.
  • Mana: used to cast more powerful and magical skills.
  • Action Points (AP): used for launching skills.
  • Move Points (MP): moving 1 tile costs 1 MP, and some skills can cost MPs too.

[...]

by Myrthos, Thursday - November 28, 2019 11:20

As far as the schedule of Black Geyser is concerned, there are two updates. One is for the late backer option that ends on the 26th of December and the second is about the game being available in Early Access on the 24th of March.

And then there is also an update about the player stronghold.

For this update we wanted to show you something we’ve been working on. Our Stronghold system will allow players to have a base of operations. Strongholds are specific to each party role and class, with each of the four roles (Warrior, Wizard, Priest and Outlaw) getting their own unique area, and aesthetic changes to the Stronghold based on the player’s class within each role. While we’re not ready to show off the final in-game map yet for the Strongholds, we wanted to give players a sneak-peek into how our concept artist has worked to design our Stronghold maps.

The image above depicts Locus, the Wizard stronghold. Clever players will find a way to summon a portal to Locus, deep in the woods south of Isilbright. Each area within Locus contains a puzzle, allowing you to further access the remaining areas (those walkways don’t start out as straightforward as they look here!). Once the puzzles are completed, Wizards will be able to utilize each of the buildings for a variety of purposes, and recruitable NPCs who are not currently in the party will make themselves at home so that it’s easier for players to enlist their services later without having to travel all over the world map.

As mentioned earlier, specific classes will see aesthetic changes to portions of their role’s Stronghold. Wintermages will find the Sanctum appropriate to their frosty pursuits after claiming Locus as their own.

Warriors and Priests will have more combat-oriented challenges to unlocking their Strongholds, while Outlaws will find themselves meddling in intrigue that affects the whole nation! Additionally, players who are not of the correct role for a given Stronghold will still be able to play through the quest related to each, so never fear about missing any content! As the game continues to develop, we will be showing you more information about the Strongholds you can call home.

End of Realms - Released

by Hiddenx, Wednesday - November 27, 2019 18:13

The turn based RPG End of Realms has been released:

End of Realms

What would happen if the first swashbuckling, fantasy, adventure and dungeon-crawling PC titles, were inspired by board games rather than tabletop RPG? What would they look like?

We don't know, but we decided to make a game that reaches for those inspirations now.

End of Realms is a turn based RPG (of sorts) where the core mechanism of travel and interacting with the world is inspired by classic fantasy board games. The kind where you roll a die, go one of two ways and your character finds something interesting based on where he landed. A sword? A monster? A magical contraption? Maybe something else entirely.

Combine that with a very simple turn based combat, painterly graphics and a plot of 70-something pages told in comic book captions, voila, what you get is End of Realms

RPGWatch Feature - Din's Legacy Review

by Myrthos, Tuesday - November 26, 2019 15:55

Forgottenlor has checked out Soldak's Din's Legacy, which might be worth your time, but maybe not be a game for everyone.

On the surface, Din's Legacy appears to be a very similar game to the original Diablo or Fate hack and slay games. In both of those games you travel with a single character through a dungeon with random floor layouts, encounter a variety of random creatures, find all manner of random loot and deal with the occasional trap or other surprise. However, Din's Legacy has a few things which sets it apart from other ARPGs. First, you're playing through a sequence of short scenarios, most of which feature your hero in charge of defending and saving a town and second the game features dynamic monster factions which are not only trying to destroy your town (or other towns), but also fighting amongst themselves. Also, in Din's Legacy, you play a mutant and the game introduces a mutation system, which lets you multiclass your character to a certain degree and gives your character random advantages and disadvantages over the course of the game. Din's Legacy is in many ways different from genre leaders like Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, Grim Dawn or Path of Exile and those differences are great enough that they may interest or turn off fans of those games.

Eredia: The Diary of Heroes - Review

by Hiddenx, Sunday - November 24, 2019 08:23

Jtrev23 checked out the demo of Eredia: The Diary of Heroes:

A step above the rest - Jtrev23 Reviews

In Eredia, the player follows the tale of Kenrad, a perverted self-proclaimed hero as he strives to gain fame, fortune, and most of all, women. Unknown to Kenrad and his allies, trouble is brewing in many different forms and the player must be careful about how they go about solving a problem, for one wrong decision can affect the whole game. For the record, I played the demo version of this game to completion in 8 hours and 34 minutes according to the internal game clock.

-INITIAL THOUGHTS-

I will start off by saying that I enjoyed playing this game. It has a nice plot, crude but funny humor, and the game forces players to make decisions that actually impact the story in some way. Though not expressed as much in the demo, forcing the player to make tough decisions actually helps the player get into the world of the game more. In one side quest, the player has to decide what to do with the body of a deceased boy and I chose to loot the body for his belongings. Even though I know it is only a game, choosing to loot the body actually made me feel guilty, which in turn helped me to see the characters in the game as real people instead of just characters. While I hope that this feature is explored more in the full release, the thing I enjoyed the most about Eredia was its versatility. In the main story and side-quests, the player has to adapt for the mission at hand. Some missions force the player to defeat all enemies while others have the player avoid them instead. Some missions even involve detective work as the player has to solve a murder mystery case on top of collecting the bounty for a wanted criminal. The versatile and rich background for the story and its characters is definitely the thing I like most about the game and the main reason why I would recommend it to others to play.

[...]

-OVERALL-

Definitely check this game out when you get the chance. I say if you like RPG games and don’t mind playing and 8 hour demo then download and lay this game now. I personally recommend you try out this game if you like RPG Maker games, RPG’s in general, or games that are well written, with rich backstories. If you like those types of games then I believe you would love playing Eredia: The Diary of Heroes

Yaga - Review @ TSA

by Hiddenx, Thursday - November 21, 2019 19:02

TSA checked out the action RPG Yaga:

Yaga Review

Tough Luck

It’s safe to say that Ivan the Blacksmith is having a bad day. He’s just had his arm sliced off and eaten by a particularly cranky – and hungry – creature named the Likho, which would be bad enough if this skinny, black clad, one-eyed embodiment of pure evil also goes and curses Ivan with bad luck. Adding to Ivan’s woes is a particularly pernickety Tzar, who tasks the blacksmith with a series of impossible tasks, the reward for which is another impossible task, while the punishment for failure is a severe case of premature death. How’s Ivan to resolve these problems? By completing a series of quests in an action RPG of course!

[...]

Summary
There's a lot to like about Yaga; intriguing world building, superb characterisation, conversational tactics and a clear passion for Slavic mythology all tick my 'Yes' boxes. But the uninspired combat, slow movement, ineffective forging and annoying bad luck mechanic. It's an unsatisfying folktale then, the kind where the storyteller insists on coughing and saying 'erm' a lot, when all you want them to do it get on with it and get to the good bit.

Score: 6/10

Starpoint Gemini 3 - Early Access Update

by Myrthos, Friday - November 15, 2019 12:29

Starpoint Gemini 3, which is currently in Early Access, will receive an update, named Gears 'n' Cogs, which is the second update on their roadmap.

No more easy pickings dear space captains. Your ship is loaded with missiles? Fine, your adversaries have plenty of decoys, and they are not afraid to use them! You're proficient with cut engines maneuvers? Won't help you – enemies will have tricks of their own with new AI and behaviour routines.

But you're not helpless – to give you a fighting chance, newly introduced crafting system enables you to be creative and engineer a plethora of items and equipment to enhance your survivability.

Focus points of Roadmap update No.2 are:

Newly added crafting and blueprints system

Newly added radiation effects system for nebulas

Heavily upgraded enemy AI and ship behaviour

Visual treats regarding impact hull damage on all ships

New range of upgradeable ship modules

Campaign storyline missions received first rework

Underrail - New Expansion Announced

by Silver, Tuesday - November 12, 2019 21:41

A new update for Underrail announces a new expansion is in the works which will feature a new main character.

Version 1.1.1.0 - Core City Factions Update

Hi guys,

We're rolling out the first content update after the Expedition release and we're doing it directly on the main branch so good luck everyone! But first, a few words regarding our current state and our future plans.

Despite having hardly any mainstream press coverage upon release, Expedition sold decently well in the initial wave and then kept doing well in the following weeks. This is very encouraging because this tells me that during the years we did manage to establish a big and dedicated enough of a fanbase, that is keeping an eye on the game and spreading the word about it, that we are no longer at the mercy of whims of individual mainstream journos of dubious gaming pedigree. Speaking of individual whims, we did in the end get a huge visibility boost (that translated into a financial one) from our friendly Ugandan YouTuber in the form of this video. Much love to Sseth.

Our plans for the future are two-fold. First, we intend to release at least a couple more content updates. These updates will vary in size, but you can probably expect something comparable to this one. They will feature mostly minor quest changes, new items, couple new areas and possibly some moderate mechanical changes. I don't know how frequent these will be, but we'll do our best not to keep you waiting for too long.

Secondly, and this will be our major focus, we'll start working on another expansion for the game. This one will be a standalone campaign in which you'll play as a new character in an area that will not be connected to the main game. We decided to do it this way for two reasons: first, because the base game is big enough as it is and we don't want to add more of the big content chunks either horizontally or through further character scaling (we will be adding some smaller stuff through the content updates, though); and secondly, we want to be able to revisit certain base mechanics and design patterns we used in the base game and improve upon them without either making the game inconsistent or having to redesign major parts of the base game. We'll talk more about what these things are and how we're improving upon them in the future.

That's it regarding our plans. We'll try to keep you guys posted on the development.

* * * * *

Anyway, here's the patch notes for the update (the list includes the changes from 1.1.0.13 and .14 that were not present on the main branch until now):

Urtuk: The Desolation - Steam Page Up

by Silver, Tuesday - November 12, 2019 19:09

Urtuk: The Desolation now has a Steam page.

loading...

Urtuk is an open-world RPG with tactical turn-based battles in a dark, low fantasy world.

Journey with a band of adventurers across an old, destroyed world. Fight your way through harsh environments. Recruit new followers, loot gear. Try to survive.

Features

  • Survival RPG with focus on combat and world exploration in a dark fantasy world
  • Tactical turn-based combat with large maps, and environmental tactical options and carefully throughout class/skill system
  • Procedurally generated survival campaign
  • Upgrade your characters with extracts from fallen enemies
  • Hand-drawn graphical assets, from the world-map to battlefield, along with all characters and map objects

Story

The world in the game is a place of pain, suffering and darkness, set with (light) fantasy features. Urtuk is the name of main character. His story begins when he escaped from the Senatorium, a place where medical experiments take place on common people.

Urtuk has suffered a mortal disease, a mutation in the Senatorium. With every day, his health condition worsenes.. Now he searches for a cure in the world. It's only a matter of time, when his mutation evolves to a level, when he finally dies.

The world is set into dark, grimy theme. There are no classic fantasy beings like elfs, dwarfs or dragons, nor powerful magic, although there are some light magical features involved.

Many centuries ago, there were powerful Giants roaming the world. They lived peacefully with humans until a war between Man and Giant began.

Now the Giants are extinct. Some years ago, few librarians studied the bones and remains of ancient Giants. They did experiments and found out, they can extract a mystical fluid from their remains - Life Essense. With this, they could add many beneficial elements into human body. Not yet known, what exact impact this fluid on a human has, the experiments continue.. Very often, instead of improving the health condition of the targe, an opposite effect would take place, inflicting a mutation or lethal disease. This was the case of Urtuk.
