And you should have between 60 - 100 hours of gameplay to finish this one. :)

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Postmortem @ Gamasutra

by Couchpotato, Wednesday - January 28, 2015 04:44

Mario Mihokovic the  CEO of Little Green Men Games posted a new Postmortem article on Gamasutra about his studios latest game called Starpoint Gemini 2 .

To be completely honest, our past six years of making games are the best years of my life. I have never done something so creative and something so liberating. Along the way we came in contact with such awesome people that share the same passion. It really changed our perspective on the gaming world, and gamers themselves.

On a business side of the job, it is far harder than we anticipated. Criteria for today's industry is incredibly high, competition is intense, and the required funds for development are very high. But we are still learning, and if Starpoint Gemini 1 achieved 40% of our original goal, then Starpoint Gemini 2 took it to about 70%, and we're still on it improving it daily.

My dream, our dream, is to fight for a chance to make one title in such a way that no compromise is neccessary. Just one chance to make 100% of the vision we have in our heads. Today, after years of intense cooperation with tens of thousands of players, that vision is pretty much in line with that of many space game players. Our next task is to improve the current game, and make it so good that it becomes our ticket to embark on that next mission. SPG1 was exploring what Earth has to offer. SPG2 took us to visit the planets of solar system. Now it is time to look at the stars once again and travel to, as captain J. T. Kirk once said: "third star to the left..."

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Post-Mortem Update

by Couchpotato, Saturday - October 25, 2014 03:55

Mario Mihokovic the CEO of Little Green Men Game posted a new Post-Mortem update on gamasutra about the development , and Steam Early Access for Starpoint Gemini 2.

Our Early Access development story started about a year ago. In September 2013, Starpoint Gemini 2 was already advanced in development by quite a few steps… At that time Early Access was rather new with very few games in the program. When we were offered to jump into it we were scared to death of the very idea. It did sound interesting though, like a modified Kickstarter campaign, but... as we saw in following months, Early Access turned out to be a completely different experience than we could have ever imagined.

It gave the development of Starpoint Gemini 2 a whole new meaning and with it a bigger level of involvement with and from our community. That said, we have to say that Early Access surprised us in a very positive way! The last 12 months were the most intense and craziest in our history as a team and has shaped Starpoint Gemini 2 into what it is today. If you are ready to jump into this "mad" experience, we certainly recommend it. We'd like to share some prominent experiences from our Early Access time...

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Review Roundup #3

by Couchpotato, Sunday - October 19, 2014 03:44

Here are some more reviews for Starpoint Gemini 2 this week.

Hardcore Gamer - 3.5/5

All in all, Starpoint Gemini 2 is a relaxing and immersive foray into the depths of space. With tons of content, enthusiasts will find themselves lost for dozens and possibly hundreds of hours exploring, questing, looting and negotiating with the thriving and vivid universe. Some aesthetic issues keep it from being perfect and it lacks the consistent adrenaline-pumping action that thrill-seekers crave, but overall it is an immersive and engaging experience for space captains everywhere.

Entertainment Buddha - 80/100

Starpoint Gemini 2 is an addictive game that will have you playing in various ways for hours upon hours. If you enjoy the occasional space sim, or love the genre immensely, then Starpoint Gemini 2 is definitely one to consider playing. There is an active modding community, which sweetens the deal even more. The controls can be daunting, but it is part of the package, and tutorials aren’t particularly helpful either. You may have to discover a lot of features through experimentation. However, in an open-world sandbox game, this is barely even a problem, and you’ll soon find yourself a competent space captain.

Twinfinite - 4/5

Luckily, Starpoint Gemini 2 has Steam Workshop support, and I’ve already found mods that fix a lot of my major griefs. For the purpose of this review, however, I played without add-ons. Starpoint Gemini 2 has a bit of a high bar to entry, but if you are a fan of space-sims or RPGs, I urge you to check out this game.

Chalgyr's Game Room - 8.25/10

Starpoint Gemini 2 was a massive surprise. While I enjoyed the first Starpoint Gemini, it was not what I would call the most 'robust' of titles and it had numerous issues. Starpoint Gemini 2 is a completely different experience while maintaining the core concept of being a space-faring role-playing game with trading elements. Featuring robust graphics, fantastic skill trees, a massive range of customizable ships and equipment, a decent story and some of the best space combat I have see outside of X3: Albion's Prelude, Starpoint Gemini 2 does everything right from beginning to end. Little Green Man Games has completely turned the franchise around and provided us with a solid game that, while it has some bugs, is incredibly enjoyable and should be a part of any space-gaming fan's library.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Review Roundup #2

by Couchpotato, Monday - October 13, 2014 12:57

Here are three more reviews I managed to find this week for Starpoint Gemini 2.

PC Gamer - 80/100

What I enjoy about Starpoint Gemini 2 is its willingness to leave me alone in the universe it puts on display, while also using careful and dynamic design to ensure there’s always a new goal to chase after. Most satisfying is that I get to decide what kind of adventurer I want to be: the crusty freighter captain, the fly-by-night smuggler, or the faction outcast. It’s all there to play. SG2 gives me a dynamic backdrop, great visuals, and thoughtful music so I can build my off-world identity. It’s where I want to be.

Strategy Informer7.5/10

Maybe Starpoint Gemini 2's universe doesn't always feel as alive as it could, but it's still an enjoyable place to spend your time. I love the freedom, the lack of restriction on what you can or can't do. The touchstone influences here are clearly games like Freelancer and Privateer, and SG2 gives you that same sense that the galaxy is your playground. The campaign isn't up to much, the interactions between various factions are simplistic and missions occasionally feel repetitive, but the game largely nails that feeling of being a grizzled starship captain who doesn't play by the rules, making his living any way he can. And also that feeling of being in charge of a fleet of warships laying waste to the innocent. Both are pretty fun.

COG - 82/100

Starpoint Gemini 2 caters to a specific audience and it does this very well. Aside from some minor flaws, this series really has come a long way with their second iteration. Thanks to all the upgrades, the developers had me lost in my own little world. Hours slipped past me as I hopped from station to station selling merchandise and fulfilling contracts. I could spend days just completing missions, let alone all the story quests there are to check out. If you enjoy Science Fiction and are looking for a way to kill some time this winter, you should definitely pick up Starpoint Gemini 2. It might take a bit of time and effort, but once you’re past the initial start up process you’ll soon be in for a treat.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Review Roundup

by Couchpotato, Thursday - October 09, 2014 01:56

Here are three more reviews for Starpoint Gemini 2 that I found this week, and I must say the game does not have that many reviews at all online.

Frugal Gaming - 8/10

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a near perfect space-simulation game, however I do feel there is a single hurdle some players won’t be able to get around and that’s the initial start of the game; you’ll spend a good 15 minutes simply reading prompts about the different controls prior to getting into the game and then the game effectively leaves you to do as you please, while you float around aimlessly to get your bearings.

Universal Gaming - 8/10

Overall, Starpoint Gemini is an immensely fun and addicting space sim and the RPG elements are a great addition as well. The game may take a bit to get used to for beginners but once you get into it you’ll be blasting enemies out of the sky with ease. There is some slight slow downs that I’ve noticed when new missions pop up but I think that may be due to my computer.

Gizorama - 2.5/5

A space sim that has interesting mod potential and may appeal to hardcore fans of space combat, but is otherwise unremarkable.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Preview @ IncGamers

by Couchpotato, Monday - April 14, 2014 05:02

IncGamers has posted a preview of the beta version of Starpoint Gemini 2 that you can but on Steam Early Access. Overall it's another positive preview.

Combat feels satisfying, with strong ties to the RPG-like levelling and cooldown abilities. And while the universe is currently lacking in focused narrative and balanced prices, it’s a vast arena to explore and offers the freedom of multiple mission types. It’s the definition of Early Access complete with semi-implemented features and loading stutters when entering new sectors, but like the steady coalescence of a new star Starpoint Gemini 2 has promising materials at its heart.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Developer Q&A @ RGN

by Couchpotato, Saturday - March 22, 2014 05:00

Real Gamer Newz sent a few questions to Little Green Man Games to talk about Starpoint Gemini 2 with Art Director, and Co-Owner Tomislav Mihoković.

Even though Starpoint was a success for your team, in the reviews people can see it getting hit hard by critics. This obviously did not influence buyers as you are currently in development for a sequel, but how did it make you guys feel? The user reviews were generally more pleasant Vs. the critic reviews did your fans help you go through this upsetting time?

Currently, the main to – do list is compiled, almost all the other features are now added to our internal wishlist, which will be our guide to future expansions, dlcs, or a following installment, so every suggestion is still valuable.”

“Yes, well overall metacritic score was less then we expected, obviously, but at the same time it was one of those love/hate games. When designing SPG1, we have put the ideas in the table, and were aiming at the niche, no matter the critics, we partially succeeded in that aim. Another thing to take into account, SPG1 was our first game as a team, with very limited resources, with no background as a developer, and maybe the most important thing – with very limited exposure to players prior to game’s launch. A bit naive on our side maybe, but we persisted. There were times when we figured maybe it would be best to close down the studio, or reorient the work to mobile platforms, but in amidst of all the madness with SPG1, we started getting the emails with players having a lot of fun playing the game, sending their suggestions on what to improve, asking for possible expansions, even volunteering for VO-ing the game etc. Today we have players that have played SPG1 for mode than 400 hours. In the end, it is the community that defines whether the team will go on on close doors, and they are a reason we exist and work today, so a big thanks to all of our players out there”

After the obvious success of the first game did your company expand by adding some new additions to the team? If so how many/what percent?

“Right you are, all of us have learned, the team has grown, doubled to be more exact, from core members to seasoned outsourcing workforce. We hope to continue growing together with the community in order to meet their big expectations, since the genre we’re in is pretty demanding, and becoming even more so considering the big comebacks last year or so.”

Do you plan on increasing/decreasing the price when the game is released/enters different testing stages? An example of a company doing this would be the company behind Planetary Annihilation.

“We have seen the progress and price changes of Planetary Annihilation, and chose to follow a more „standard“ path, as we feel the price for the game should be at its top when the game is fully operational so to speak. Almost every alpha stage of any game is expected to be buggy and unpolished with features missing, so in our minds it would be unfair for our backers to pay more for less in a way. But that’s just our way of looking at things”

FAN-FAVORITE SPACE SIM STARPOINT GEMINI 2 HITS BETA

Little Green Men Games’ Massive Update Features Wormholes, T-drives, New Music and More!

Haarlem, The Netherlands – March 17, 2014 – Iceberg Interactive, the popular European publisher known for its armada of stellar space games, announced today the fan-favorite Starpoint Gemini 2 (PC) has entered in the Beta phase of development on Steam’s Early Access program. Created by Little Green Men Games, Starpoint Gemini 2’s Beta update offers fans the ability to chance traveling through the new, powerful and dangerous wormholes, mount T-drives to their custom ships for instant travel, hear new music tracks and special effects, experience local events and brutally heavy cannon blasts with a new shaky camera, amongst other additions.

Starpoint Gemini 2 Beta Features:

  • Wormholes – Free of charge, Wormholes are a one-way superfast travel method, but due to instability they are very dangerous and can result in damage or major catastrophe. Very popular way of travel among bandits and pirates.
  • Classy Choices – Players can now choose their player class at the start of a game.
  • Faster – By adding newer models, the game’s load times are much faster.
  • T- Drive – Personal device for instant travel that can be mounted to any ship.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Upcoming Beta Release

by Couchpotato, Friday - March 14, 2014 04:26

LGM Games sent news  that Starpoint Gemini 2 will be entering beta soon on Steam Early Access. Here are the details from the developer.

Important notes on the upcoming Beta

• Upon entering beta, purchasing Starpoint Gemini 2 package will no longer come with a bundled Starpoint Gemini 1. All those  who purchase SG2 until then will get SG1 for free and keep it of course, but after that point, SG1 is going out of the package.

• Entering beta stage will also mean a slight increase in price.

• Entering beta DOES NOT mean LGM Games is done with implementing features, but it does however mean they'll have to stop introducing new features to the to-do list. They'll focus on implementing and finishing up the items on the list, balancing and bug-fixing to make the game as polished as possible and ready on final release. The remaining suggested features will definitely remain on their wish-list for possible future addition.

The entire LGM team is immensely grateful to the community for providing awesome support and feedback during alpha stage of Early Access and would like to thank each and every player for helping us in developing Starpoint Gemini 2. A lot of work has been done, but a lot yet remains. We promise to continue our work on the game up untill final release and beyond.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Advanced Alpha Update

by Couchpotato, Friday - February 28, 2014 04:35

Iceberg Interactive sent out a new press release about a new Alpha update.

Create-a-Hero Contest Winner Will Be Featured in Game

Haarlem, The Netherlands – February 27, 2014 – Iceberg Interactive announced today the release of a big update for the advanced alpha version of Starpoint Gemini 2. From local security ships checking for contraband, to the addition of a Skill and Perk respect panel, and new on-ship changing boarding mechanics, this significant update injects new layers of energy, depth, and variation to Little Green Men Games’ open-world 3D space simulation.

Starpoint Gemini 2 Advanced Alpha Update Features:

  • Graphic and gameplay anomalies redesigned and updated
  • Local security ships now check passing ships for illegal goods including the player, and will demand that the ship jettisons the cargo.
  • Skill & Perk respect panel has been added to stations, so players can test out different skill setups. Skill & Perk points can be reset for a price
  • Boarding mechanics have been updated with various random micro-events that can fire off, to change the course of on-ship battles
  • Ships “drop” derelicts more frequently when exploding and all ships now have proper derelict models

In addition to the alpha update, Little Green Men Games has launched a user-generated Hero Contest, where players create their own character that they would like to see implemented into the game. The character with the most community votes will win. The contest begins today and will run for two weeks, ending on Friday, March 14. Check out the contest and enter your very own hero here: www.starpointgemini.com/contests/hero/votingPage/index.php

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Preview @ Pixel Related

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - February 11, 2014 05:29

Pixel Related takes a look at the Early Access version of Starpoint Gemini 2.

Fortunately, at this Alpha stage of Early Access, the bones of the experience are all here – with a ton of information located on the HUD, the developers seem to be focusing on getting as much functioning content into the game as possible. With seemingly endless buttons to click, all the game really needs at this point is a little bit more hand-holding and direction to get you started.

From the moment you set out you’ll be making choices as to how much power to divert to your engines (sacrificing weapons systems and leaving yourself vulnerable). Increasing travel speed will be critical too, as you will often have to cover quite a large distance between the sparse objectives. A large draw of this game is the ability to explore, but just like any other open-world RPG, doing so can be perilous. Seeing hostile ships off in the distance, it can be difficult to tell whether or not they’re something you can realistically handle.

Though there are a few complaints to be made, the majority of them center around simply not completely understanding what you’re doing. Although space is directionless, that doesn’t necessarily mean the player ought to be, as the most successful open-world games give you some clear guidance on where and when to go next. With more scripted events and even a simple overarching narrative, this gorgeous world that you already want to spend time in can easily become one that you just can’t pull yourself away from.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Preview @ GamerFitNation

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - January 28, 2014 02:00

GamerFitNation previews the Early Acees version of Starpoint Gemini 2.

Little Green Man Gaming has great ambitions for Starpoint Gemini 2, their space-based action RPG which is currently available for early access alpha on Steam. The game already boasts a massive, open-world map with no loading screens and a wide variety of customizable ships. The developers are working on dynamic events that change based on the player’s actions, the ability to hire ships to create a fleet and the addition of a main storyline. The game will also be moddable, which is a feature that appeals to many PC gamers.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Preview @ HardcoreGamer

by Couchpotato, Monday - January 27, 2014 04:08

HardcoreGamer takes a look at the Early Access version of Starpoint Gemini 2.

There is a lot about Starpoint Gemini 2 that just screams potential, and it has the framework for an addicting and engaging space sim experience. In its current state, however, potential is really all it is. Luckily, the game is still in alpha, and there is every possibility that it could reach greatness by the time the game hits version 1.0. Still, as the game stands right now, it’s an interesting sandbox experience with not a whole of compelling things to actually do in it and some glaring technical issues. As with most early access games, be aware that this is not yet a full featured game, and only throw down your money if you’re interested in being a part of the development process.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Two More Previews

by Couchpotato, Friday - January 24, 2014 01:18

Here are two more previews of the Early Access version of Starpoint Gemini 2.

Monstervine

Starpoint Gemini 2 is definitely something you should keep your eye on if a space exploration RPG is something that sounds interesting to you. In its current state it’s definitely a functional game despite the multitude of bugs plaguing it, but keep in mind that it’s still in alpha and that its campaign (along with various other features) still aren’t implemented yet. What’s there isn’t much, but it’s definitely a solid game and the developers are quite vocal on the forums which is always good to see. This has a lot of potential to be something great but we’ll just have to wait for its full release to see how it shapes up.

Twinfinite

So, bottom line? I think there’s a lot of potential wrapped up in Starpoint Gemini 2, but I’m not sure a lot of it shines through this early on. Once there’s a fully-formed plot underneath the pretty good-looking wrapper, there’s definitely a chance for a pretty great final product. In the current state, though, unless you’re really, really into space sims, I don’t think buying into the early access is worth it – though, again, at least they’re kind enough to toss in the game’s prequel as a bonus, and hey, maybe you’re really into very nicely rendered asteroid mining simulations.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Preview @ CalmDownTom

by Couchpotato, Thursday - January 23, 2014 01:45

CalmDownTom takes a look at the Early Access version of Starpoint Gemini 2.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a Steam Early Access game. Like all of the Early Access games it is full of potential that isn’t quite there yet in the current version. But it certainly has hope, it allows full movement of the ship, the combat could be video’d and shown to future generations as to what should be done in the case of a firefight in space, the music is fantastic and adds to the tranquility of space and finally completing missions for space people is just bad ass. I can easily recommend this for sci-fi nuts, but if you’re just looking for a simple space shooter, I’d suggest you look elsewhere.

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Oculus Rift Support

by Couchpotato, Friday - December 20, 2013 21:43

Iceberg Interactive has a new press release with information on a major update on Steam Early Access for Starpoint Gemini 2.

Two brand new Starpoint Gemini 2 trailers released

Haarlem, The Netherlands – 20 December 2013 – Space sim/RPG fans’ current favorite title, Starpoint Gemini 2 (PC), presently in alpha on the Steam’s Early Access program, is receiving its final update of the year later today, accompanied by two new trailers for the increasingly popular game. Developer Little Green Men Games is releasing a new gameplay trailer, showing what players can expect in today’s new update. Revealed a few days ago on social media, they have also released a second trailer, showcasing the new features that made it into the game, thanks to community input – including the hugely popular ‘STARSHIP GARAGE’.

Both trailers are streaming on the Iceberg Youtube channel here and here.

Iceberg Interactive CEO Erik Schreuder says: “We’re already seeing strong sales for Starpoint Gemini 2 during the Steam Early Access program, and there is definitely a very positive and involved atmosphere on the community hub. The guys at Little Green Men Games have to be commended for managing to constantly staying tuned to the community vibe while simultaneously improving Starpoint Gemini 2, using the tremendous community feedback as well as executing their own development roadmap. Thanks to the Steam Early Access Program, the game is really expanding well beyond what was originally planned and is looking more and more like a polished, immersive and high quality space sim, as the weeks go by. And there is much more to come!”

Highlighted additions and changes from today’s update are:

  • Fire at will command in its basic form uses a smart algorithm to switch between targets. This feature is a work in progress and feedback is most welcome.
  • Licenses are now available for purchase on stations (planets will receive them in the next update). Licenses can only be acquired when you're allied to a faction
  • New station model
  • Energy redistribution panel (transfer power between engines/shields/weapons)
  • AI received first update (NPC ships fly and fight in formations, use power to engines…)
  • Structures can now be guarded. Damaging them can trigger security forces to arrive in its defence
  • Several new bonus modifiers are now functional (Heavy weapon reload, Weapon battery recharge...)

Starpoint Gemini 2 - Interview @ AGR

by Couchpotato, Tuesday - September 24, 2013 00:55

AGR interviews Little Green Man Games to get information about Starpoint Gemini 2.

(AGR) - After completing the original game and releasing it to the public, what do you think was the biggest flaw in the game that either yourselves or others spotted and complained about the most?

(Little Green Man Games) - Well, I think there were two major mistakes. First was not going to full 3D immediately. That was considered a serious flaw by a vast majority of players. Second was the voiceover. In the first English version, we did most of them ourselves, and just proved that professional actors exist for a good reason. Starpoint Gemini was our first “full sized” title and we had great ideas for the game. Some of those ideas weren’t followed up properly due to our misjudgment of current market stance, while others simply fell to the fact we had quite a limited budget.

(AGR) -
What are the main things you’ve done differently when it came to creating the sequel to Starpoint Gemini?

(Little Green Man Games) - Our first game wasn’t a high budget game and many people were turned down by that fact alone. However, a good number of players gave our game a real chance and eventually enjoyed it. They were mostly fans of the genre, and they were of tremendous help as we fixed numerous glitches and upgraded gameplay to the best of our ability. Still, we felt a debt to those players and to ourselves, for not achieving the level we strived to. For that reason, Starpoint Gemini 2 was crafted to answer many of the demands set by players. Space, movement, camera and combat are now in full 3D. Graphics is heavily upgraded and now use DirectX 11. In addition, our game engine now relies on streaming technology, and that eliminates loading points between dozens of sectors in the game. Lastly, combat and action is now less automatic and more in the hands of players. All of the other elements are still here but much more refined and user-friendly.
