Legend of Keepers - Review @ TSA

by Hiddenx, Tuesday - May 11, 2021 17:32

TSA checked out Legend of Keepers:

Legend of Keepers Review

Being the hero is overrated. We’ve been there, done that and bought the mythril armour; for those of us who frequent fantasy video games, it can all begin to get a touch generic after a while. Then comes along a game like Legend of Keepers.

Upon reading the title, you’d be forgiven for believing this is going to be a hardy quest for adventurers seeking treasures untold, and in truth, there is treasure. However, unlike other RPGs, you’re guarding that treasure from would-be heroes. That’s right, you’re the bad guy in this scenario.

More specifically, you’re the dungeon master, in charge of ensuring that the monsters in your care (we use that term loosely) are up to the task at hand. You can crack the whip, quite literally, as much as you like within this game, but you still need to keep the monsters you’re in charge of happy.

[...]

Summary
Legend of Keepers is a delight to play. It has such character, both in its looks and humour, that it feels unique when compared to other games out there. For those who want to work hard to create undefeatable monsters and dungeons, there’s plenty of scope to carve out your success. It's definitely a title to try out for yourself, even if you’re not usually one for this type of turn-based indie RPG.

Score: 8/10

Be an Evil Dungeon Master! - Legend of Keepers - Full Release PC Review

Legend of Keepers is a dungeon defense management roguelite with RPG elements. With goofy humor, beatiful pixelart, a banger soundtrack and a large variety of monster units and traps to choose from as well as a decent amount of events, I had a really good time playing this game and would very much recommend it to you guys as well :)

Legend of Keepers - Review @ PC Invasion

by Hiddenx, Monday - May 03, 2021 17:36

PC Invasion has reviewed Legend of Keepers:

Legend of Keepers review — Where there's a whip

When KPI means "kill people ingeniously."

You’ve already cleared dungeons, killed their end bosses, and stolen the loot uncountable times. Maybe you have even managed to run a dungeon as a keeper of sorts. But how about running a dungeon as a business; a business that wants to attract adventures to die? Then you need to play Legend of Keepers.

Damn, this is where I usually put my plot paragraph, but that’s basically it. All the dungeons in the fantasy world of Legend of Keepers are run by a corporation staffed with literal (and not metaphorical, like in real life) monsters. You are a manager of a dungeon, which makes you the end boss. It’s your job to populate a linear dungeon with traps and monsters to kill or scare away groups of adventurers.

[...]

Legend of Keepers is a game that’s a lot smoother than its title. Seriously, I had written the whole review for "Legend of Keeper" before catching my mistake in editing. The art is fantastic, the writing is fitting, and the repetition might be repetitive, but not too much so. The campaign format leaves the doors wide open for future DLC, and the game already has mod support. But it’s too bad that some modders (the ones not porting Heroes of Might and Magic III models) are only interested in putting more anime waifus into the game.

Score: 8/10 -

Legend of Keepers is a fairly engrossing game with a simple yet fun gameplay loop and glorious gory pixelart.

RogueDefender
Each run will be different but players will keep some of their Master's bonuses between runs. Like we've already mentioned, our game is a mix between Roguelite and Dungeon Management. How did we achieve that? By running many tests to find the perfect balance between management and dungeon phases!

Dungeon Phase
First, you will have to plan your defense against a group of adventurers. Check their stats and resistances, then place the best traps and monsters to defeat them! When you think your dungeon is ready, let the crawl begin!

You will then be able to watch those heroes die! It's a reversed dungeon crawler: heroes will move through your dungeon and will trigger the traps you placed. When a group of adventurers encounters a group of monsters you positioned in your dungeon, a turn-based fight will happen!

Games/Series that inspired us:
HeroQuest (Board Game), Naheulbeuk (French audio series), Kaamelott (the best French series), Monty Python (English series).

Video games: Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, Dungeon Keeper, Final Fantasy, Divinity, For the King, Chroma Squad, Battle Brothers, West of Loathing and so many more..

Legend of Keepers - Interview @ TBL

by Hiddenx, Sunday - February 07, 2021 09:47

The Turn Based Lovers asked the devs of Legend of Keepers 10 questions:

10 Turns Interview with Legend of Keepers Developers

All around me is so dark that I can barely see the narrow dungeon walls corroded by moisture. I can hear the sound of my heart beating like a hammer against a coffin.
They are here now, somewhere in the labyrinthine corridors of this damned place and they are looking for blood, and death, my death. I don’t know what compels them to roam relentlessly through the tentacles of this cave, but I know what is my duty.
Even if I’m weaker, even if I’m terrorized, I have to fight them till the end…
Finally over there I can see a glimmer, the faint semblance of a light. Not far from me, someone is coming. Even if his appearance nearly paralyze me, I must sneak towards him trying to overcome my fears. As I approach, I can distinguish better his figure, he is tall and muscular, with his arms gripped around a huge lethal weapon. His eyes are bloodthirsty and full of primordial anger, barely visible through cascades of yellow “threads”!
How horrible…
The only way for me to keep my mental sanity is remembering that HE is the attacker and that I’m just defending myself. With that thought in mind, I raise my sword and shout:
“You won’t win fuck**ng bastard! You will die, damned… HERO!”

What follows is the result of a funny little chat I had with the talented guys of Goblinz Studio about their upcoming Legend of Keepers. Thanks to them for their availability, kindness and courtesy.

1st Turn) In LofK we play, for once, not as the good old Chosen One, but as the chief of a bunch of monsters. In other words, this time we are the “Dungeon Lord” (more or less) and we must protect the treasure from attacks by heroes and warriors willing to steal it at all costs. So the first question for you is: do you really think players will like to be the bad guys, for once?

Who doesn’t? That’s an old classic, it’s not that new. Playing as a bad guy is what you do in most Rockstar games, half of the time in moral-based choice games, a lot of RPGs, and of course Dungeon Keepers. And in a lot of games, the so-called hero would only be a fanatic war criminal, anyway. The main aspect of LoK is that we don’t pretend to play the good guys while slaughtering people. That’s what heroes do. Also, they probably shouldn’t try to attack our dungeon in the first place? Who’s the bad guy, now?

RPGWatch @ Gamescom - Legend of Keepers Preview

by Myrthos, Thursday - September 05, 2019 15:24

The roguelike Legend of Keepers is a mixture between games like Darkest Dungeon and Dungeon Keeper. Your goal in the game as dungeon keeper, is to prevent the heroes to reach the treasures, by setting traps and throwing monsters at them. The game was shown to me at Gamescom and I penned down what I learned.

The mechanics of the game are split in two parts. First is the dungeon part, where the combat takes place and the second part is an agenda where you have to select tasks you need to accomplish each week. This agenda will allow you to select tasks like, upgrading your monsters, buying new monsters, upgrading traps, sending your monsters out for some plundering, dealing with the heroes or a random event. One of those random events is that you have to deal with an employee strike, where the monsters don't want to work anymore and you have to decide whether you will ignore them or will increase their wages. If you ignore them they will leave and you will have to wait for several weeks before a batch of monsters is available again. Another example that was given was that you are offered meat for a lower price. Accepting that one will save some money, but there is a risk that the meat is not fresh and that your monsters will be suffering from food poisoning after a while, which makes them unable to fight. You can refuse the offer, but if you refuse something offered by the same person too often, he or she will start to dislike you, which might have other negative effects in the game.
